rghI don't have jack in my startup programs10:30
rghI run xfce however, maybe things are different on kde10:30
mutanthifihello chaps, been given an old (late 2008) 17" macbook pro (4,1). Downloaded and created the bootable, but using it live I get the desktop but nothing does anything, including the installer icon. I know I can choose to install from the text menu early on, but I'm loathe to install something that doesn't work in the live 'test' environment11:33
sethu[m]1You may not have an other option. Shoehorn it in any way you can just to test whether it work installed11:55
MauroGaspari[m]<mutanthifi "hello chaps, been given an old ("> If it is a graphics driver issue, you can try and start the live image with nomodeset option. See if that helps in any way12:07
wonkoOvenWerks: So I'm not sure what I proved with the mac15:38
wonkoprobably that the AF4 is ok probably?15:38
wonkomaybe?15:38
wonko:-D15:38
wonkoI should really try to get jack being used though15:38
wonkobut I'm lost without the pulse bridge15:39
OvenWerkswonko: with the latest studio-controls does it not work for you?17:11
wonkoi'm trying to test it on the mac. I don't think studio-controls works on osx. :)17:31
OvenWerkswonko: it might with the right libs17:35
wonkowell, it's not getting jack started that's the issue17:36
wonkoit's finding something to run with jack17:36
wonkomost everything is either complete garbage on osx or is skipping jack and just using CoreAudio anyway17:37
OvenWerkswe _know_ what you should do.18:53
EickmeyerWith my IRC op hat on, I have to say that talk of getting Jack started on macOS is entirely offtopic here.18:56
OvenWerks;)18:57
wonkoEickmeyer: so please come make the AF4 work on linux then please. :-D19:40
Eickmeyerwonko: That's beyond the scope of Ubuntu Studio.19:40
wonkoBooo!19:40
wonkoYou're fired!19:40
wonkobut, you do make a valid point19:41
EickmeyerO_o19:41
wonkothis may be better taken up with the jack and/or ffado people19:41
wonkoI was just trying to validate the hardware first19:43
OvenWerkswonko: ALSA devs19:43
wonkoand also not asking for help as much as just complaining. :-D19:43
wonkoOvenWerks: Do I care if it works with ALSA?19:43
wonkoI'm pretty sure I don't?19:43
OvenWerkswonko: if it works properly, yes19:44
wonkoI guess seeing if anyone has successfully used an AF4 with ALSA isn't a terrible idea.19:44
OvenWerkswonko: try 20.04 first19:48
wonkoI'm on 20.0419:48
OvenWerkswhat works/doesn't?20:00
wonko32/2 and 32/3 flat out crash jack immediately. 64/2 and 64/3 work, but will crash evemtually. both cases with an "unhandled xrun"20:02
OvenWerkswonko: that may be the device/computer HW combination20:47
