[13:22] xubuntu [13:33] metbsd: same as you did with the server iso [13:34] metbsd: what are you running now, ubuntu, windows or mac? [13:35] win [13:35] fail to boot though [13:36] no more display after linux loading [13:36] what did you use, Rufus? [13:36] etcher [13:36] and did you verify the iso? [13:37] also, what are the system specs [13:37] learn to provide as much info you can when asking for support [13:38] verify failed [13:38] 20.04 iso [13:38] it's intel core 2 duo [13:38] 9400 [13:38] really old laptop [13:38] the same usb can boot and install another newer laptop [13:39] but fail to boot in this old laptop [13:39] 32bit? [13:39] or 64? [13:39] 64bit [13:39] how much RAM [13:39] 4g ram 320g hd [13:40] if the verification failed then you need to download another iso [13:40] alienware [13:40] nVidia, AMD graphics card in it i guess? [13:40] amd sv670 [13:41] maybe that's your problem [13:41] can i use text only installation [13:41] dunno [13:42] problem is it doesn't give me menu to choose installation types [13:42] you kinda asked the same question about the server iso last night and it was answered [13:42] ok [13:42] thanks [13:42] also you said 20.04 but asked help with 20.10 which is confusing [13:43] if the sha256 checksum failed then doznload a new iso [13:44] 20.04 failed, will try 20.10 now [13:44] doznload/download [13:44] ok, have fun and good luck, gotta run [13:44] thanks bye [13:45] Maik, it's my Chinese Lunar new year. So I wish you a healthy and successful year of Ox. [13:45] i'm chinese [13:48] thank you very much. Wishing you the same. :) [15:01] uh [15:02] so i got the error that the installer failer [15:02] *failed [15:02] i have a gtx 1050 and an i5 7300hq [16:53] hi. I installed xubuntu 20.04 with Lvm encrpoted partition. I let rhe installer choose the partitions just to know what happens. [16:53] it created a primary /boot/efi. [16:55] It also created an extended partition with two partitions inside (/boot and vgxubuntu) [16:56] is this right? I can not see the swap partition. [16:56] by the way the vgxubuntu partition indicates that the filesystem is lvm2 pv. Is it some kind of encrypted ext4? [16:58] Arseniev: I cannot tell you since I didn't install a ubuntu system for some time, but seems about right [16:58] /boot/efi for the bootloader, /boot for loading the encrypted stuff, and then one encrypted partition [16:58] you would probably like to add another partition for separating /home and / [16:59] ok, now I understand [16:59] wbat about the swap? [16:59] ai always had a partition dedicated to it. [17:00] Arseniev: Depends. I personally don't use it on my machines anymore [17:00] it depends a lot on how you use your computer and how it is equipped whether tou need one [17:00] I would go so far as saying that modern desktops don't require a swap partition anymore. Lots of people might object, though [17:03] Arseniev: *buntu creates a swap file, this is since 18.04. No swap partition is needed anymore. [17:04] Maik: Ah, good to know [17:04] makes more sense anyway rather than fixing it into the partitioning
