I think somemother people have tried it too. [06:00] sakrecoer[b]: it is designed for less than wonderfull networks where things like aes67, avb, dante can't work [06:00] as well as a lan [06:01] so it can do pcm direct but also compressed (OPUS) low latency [06:02] yes they state on rhe frontpage that etherner makes a huge difference from WiFi [06:02] I do not know if it interfaces with jack well or not because I have not tried it. [06:02] i will try! sometime this weekend [06:02] I do not think even OPUS can do lowlatency with wireless [06:04] sakrecoer[b]: wifi has to deal with colisions followed by a rndom delay followed by a retry with a possible second colision. [06:04] sakrecoer[b]: wifi not only has to worry about colisions within you own wifi, but everyone elses on the block using the same channel [06:05] it's quite amazing wifi can be as fast as it is lol [06:05] sakrecoer[b]: typical latency using wifi is 500ms for sability [06:05] would be so neat to get some jaming going on again. probably what i miss the most about the restricitions [06:05] sakrecoer[b]: speed and latency are not the same thing [06:06] aha, yes of course [06:08] but wouldn't it eventually affect speed too in the case of wifi? if those 500ms run out, wouldn't it neee to... add a new ... "lookahead"? [06:21] sakrecoer[b]: the newer wifi just uses bigger packet sizes for more throughput [06:21] sakrecoer[b]: and higher bitrates too of course [06:22] so there is not guarentee when they will get there, but they can move faster [06:29] thanks for elaborating OvenWerks === kverz_broke is now known as veremittz === veremittz is now known as kveremitz [15:53] Hi everyone, I'm asking here again [15:54] Is there a plan for new TASCAM US-4X4HR will be support by Linux ans UbuntuStudio ? [15:55] and* [16:02] Is the the unit USB? if so is it class compliant? [16:02] Does it work on a MAC?) [16:06] Basically, the mac requires USB devices to be class complient as it does not allow installing drivers. Linux should just work with any USB class complient device. [16:07] SADe_: this page: https://tascam.com/us/product/us-4x4hr/spec seems to indicate it should work. [16:10] however, the downloads page does have a "settings panel" for the mac (but not iOS) so it is best to check if ALSA can see it's controls. [16:11] Actually, it looks like everything is knobs, not sure what a settings panel would do. [18:38] i've install studio 20.4 on a iMac late 2009 [18:39] with a dual boot on high sierra, my tascam work on mac but not under ubuntu studio [18:40] OvenWerks, on jack i can start with the integrated sound card but not the tascam .. [18:46] Is there a place to open and an issue and report jack logs [18:47] -and [19:06] SADe_: if the device does not work in ALSA it will not work in jack. So check that it works with ALSA first [19:08] If ALSA sees it... arecord -l and aplay -l both show it and something like firefox can send sound to it.... the next thing is to find out what sample rates/buffer sizes it can use [19:11] SADe_: It could be you are trying to get jack to use the device with a sample rate or buffer size the device does not support. Both windows a macOS hide this from you, using SRC to give you what you ask for regardless. [19:12] for example, many devices will only run at 48000 and not 44100 or vise versa [20:26] Thank you for your advices OvenWerks 'ill give a try tomorow [23:43] Yo guys, I've been trying the Auburn Sounds-plugins... they're amazing [23:44] I hope you'll consider adding them to the next Ubuntu Studio release, if that's something you're allowed to do with the free versions. These plugins are astounding [23:51] sirriffsalot, this Renegate ? [23:52] https://bedroomproducersblog.com/2020/08/25/auburn-sounds-renegate-free/ [23:52] oerheks: yeah https://www.auburnsounds.com/products/Panagement.html [23:52] cool [23:53] oerheks: yeah I dunno, it's not opensource even, but they had free versions.. so I thought I'd mention it [23:53] They're truly something
