Teacupthe_og_spazzz: While I set this up, only thing I can recommend to try is maybe a different vnc server00:01
GZA-Genius.00:01
the_og_spazzzTeacup: I'm not sure I feel confident being able to set that up from scratch but I can look into it00:03
relipseYes00:04
GZA-Geniusleftyfb ok getting same error with lag enabled on switch end and rebooted system, if you sent any msg after i said let me reboot i didnt see because got dissconnected00:05
GZA-Geniuswhat about host/dns settings that shouldnt becausing errors on this level would it?00:07
=== cjoke_ is now known as cjoke
leftyfbGZA-Genius: I would honestly try without the bonded interfaces to start with. Keep it simple, work up from there00:09
GZA-Geniusok00:10
GZA-Geniuslet me lookup how to setup normal link in netplan and change config00:12
Teacupvino on a ubuntu 20.10 live image doesn't even seem to work with RealVNC by default00:13
the_og_spazzzOk, well nice to know its not just me00:13
TeacupFor me it just gives an encryption error00:14
Teacup1 min00:14
the_og_spazzzThere's a way to shut that off, I don't know if I did it and it just started working but my VNC warns me about lack of encryption when I connect00:14
the_og_spazzzWhich, I am fine with, this all lives behind a firewall and if I happen to be off site i'll use a VPN to get in anyway00:15
TeacupI'd recommend a separate VNC server anyway00:15
TeacupWhatever ubuntu has on by default seems to be just a very basic barebones server00:15
the_og_spazzzThat's really all I want anyway.  If I could get a feature set akin to RDP that would be GREAT but isn't needed00:15
GZA-Geniusleftyfb SHOULD I REBOOT AFTER CHANGIN CONFIG OR JUST DO THE APPLY00:16
GZA-Genius sorry for caps00:16
the_og_spazzzDo you have any recommendations?  Pref one with guides, screenshots, and commands? :-P00:16
leftyfbGZA-Genius: netplan apply should be sufficient00:16
the_og_spazzzI know enough Linux to follow directions, understand what I'm reading, and operate the machine but not so good figuring out things on my own00:17
TeacupWell if you want simple I'm pretty sure RealVNC has their own vnc server in the ubuntu repos00:18
GZA-Geniusleftyfb ok i got it back up with a single fiber link with dhcp00:18
TeacupOr maybe that's just their viewer00:18
the_og_spazzzTeacup: I mean.  I don't mind complex if it doesn't require me to make a ton of config changes and spend a few hours in google to make work.00:19
TeacupRegardless, you could also install it from their website00:19
GZA-Geniusleftyfb PROGRESS!!! now let me try redoing the config with the syntax from the website with bond, i just dont understand how the config file could be fine then not be strange, let me rewrite config bond file see if we still have same error00:20
the_og_spazzzAlrighty, I'll do some research and see if if anything stands out.  I appreciate your help and looking at it00:20
Teacupthe_og_spazzz: You can download the RealVNC server here https://www.realvnc.com/en/connect/download/vnc/linux/00:20
Teacuptigervnc is another option, but it would be a little more involved for you than their GUI00:21
the_og_spazzzTeacup: I'll start with that and see how I do then.  Thank you again!00:22
the_og_spazzzAppreciate the help getting pointed in a direction :-)00:22
GZA-Geniusleftyfb version: 2 was at the bottom of the config and renderer: networkd was not even in the old config, let me rewrite and see what happens00:22
TeacupYou will of course want to toggle the "screen sharing" in ubuntu before installing that00:22
the_og_spazzzRight... I imagine it would conflict00:22
the_og_spazzzAny harm in uninstalling the other server you think?00:23
the_og_spazzzSo long as it dosen't try to ripout the desktop with it?00:23
the_og_spazzzDid that once. It was fun LOL00:23
GZA-Geniusleftyfb here is a question i was running my lag as 802.3ad lacp rate slow and hashpolicy layer3+4, i pretty much just want max speed is that the mode i should be using?00:26
leftyfbGZA-Genius: sorry, I don't have experience with that. Again, why do you need this bonded interface?00:26
GZA-Geniusleftyfb i really shouldnt need redundancy or load balance because its a home server00:27
GZA-Geniusleftyfb just becauyse i can and i have all the equipment and its always what i have used00:27
GZA-Geniusits 2x 10G links00:27
murpheuxI suddenly noticed my ubuntu server now had a desktop manager. What may be wrong?00:28
leftyfbjeeze, what on earth are you transferring to/from that server to require that type of speed? Also, the other end needs similar specs to take advantage of it00:28
matsamanmurpheux: you installed something desktopy00:28
GZA-Geniusyup00:28
leftyfbmurpheux: desktop managers do not get installed on servers on their own00:29
murpheuxand I cannot remember ever adding a desktop manager to it00:29
murpheuxleftyfb: must be the devil at work I guess00:29
murpheuxmatsaman: that may be more like it00:30
GZA-Geniusleftyfb my desktop and server have both 10g x2 lag links i often xfer 100s of gig back and forth and i have 10g lan in my whole house buy only a few devives that run at full speed00:30
murpheuxmay be a package I installed brough it in00:30
murpheuxGZA-Genius: that rocks!! - 10g x2 lag links00:31
Teacupthe_og_spazzz: You can just leave the existing server alone(off, of course); It shouldn't cause any issues00:32
GZA-Geniusleftyfb its a huge dif in speed compared to 1G lags i have a 8drive sas raid inb server and pcie4 ssd in workstation so 1G easily bottlenecks that connection when transfering that amount of data, and i have it so may as well use it, ok let me try and rebuild bond00:32
the_og_spazzz@Teacup: Sounds like a plan.  Thank you again!  If your still around i'll report back (or have more questions)00:33
matsamanmurpheux: I'm not sure the Debian way to "enforce" this not happening00:41
matsamanI'm sure you can blacklist certain packages00:41
GZA-Genius leftyfb i think i may have got it my old config for bond syntax was very dif just very confused how it worked fine then it didnt. I am rebooting now to check if it works00:45
leftyfbGZA-Genius: please do not pm00:50
leftyfbGZA-Genius: glad you got it working00:50
the_og_spazzzTeacup: The RealVNC Server app works.  I'm not happy about the way they tie it in to the company itself (I view remote access as something that should be baked in the OS) but it will probably do the job until Ubuntu figures out why the baked in server isn't working02:24
the_og_spazzzand now that I know thats the issue, I might fiddle around with a more OpenSource VNC solution later thats not so tied into a 3rd party02:25
the_og_spazzzAppreciate the help again!02:25

Is there a cli way to invoke the same action and get some logs? Or can anyone tell me where to find the logs? The only thing I did between yesterday and today was install tpl, so maybe that's interfering some how ?14:23

TJ-longshanks: try "sudo systemctl restart bluetooth"14:39
longshanksI did turn bluetooth on and off again (classic IT fix!) using the Gnome applet. Does that do the same? Have also rebooted. Think tlp disables bluetooth, and now it won't connect. Think there's a page in their FAQ about how to disable the bluetooth disabling (i.e. leave it alone). Something to do with some bluetooth chips not handling suspend well, and guess tlp uses that feature to keep battery life14:41

NitrousoxideHey, I just installed Ubuntu Desktop 20.04 alongside Windows 10 on a BIOS system. The problem is that when I boot I immediately get thrown into Windows without the Grub loader showing up. Does anyone know of a fix for this, or should I ask ##windows?22:51
sarnoldNitrousoxide: look around a bit, I think there's a way to disable "windows fast boot" or something similar22:53
sarnold!fastboot22:53
Lafragwhat that group is maded for?22:53
NitrousoxideI don't think Fast Startup is the problem, but I'll give that a try.22:54
ash_worksican `watch` just keep printing lines to the buffer history or do I have to do like `while sleep 2; do <commdn>; done`23:09
sarnoldI don't recall seeing anything like that in the watch manpage before23:10
sarnoldI use a loop like that more often than watch23:11
Nitrousoxidesarnold: That didn't seem to fix it.23:15
sarnoldNitrousoxide: dang :(23:16
NitrousoxideWindows is such a pain in the ass lmao23:17

sarnoldqwertuttyty: perhaps du, df, and ls, all report different sizes for the filesystem and files on it..23:35
sarnoldqwertuttyty: on a zfs filesystem with compression enabled, du -B1 and ls -l output do indeed differ for me ..23:39

jas02Hello guys, I am wondering, if it's possible to use Ubuntu Core as minimalistic OS for LXD on bare metal23:50
jas02Is it good fit? Any experience?23:50
sarnoldI've not tried it but it feels pretty plausible23:50
