[01:40] Hello everyone. Are the KXStudio packages in the Ubuntu repos more up to date than the same packages in the KXStudio repo? [03:26] ubuntu does not package kxstudio, their ppa seems up2date [03:26] https://launchpad.net/~kxstudio-debian/+archive/ubuntu/ubuntus [05:24] Hi. I can't get the Epson L3010 driver to install. [05:25] :~/Downloads$ sudo dpkg -i epson-inkjet-printer-escpr_1.7.9-1lsb3.2_i386.deb [05:25] (Reading database ... 518425 files and directories currently installed.) Done [05:30] Building dependency tree [05:30] Reading state information... Done [05:30] Package qt4-default is not available, but is referred to by another package. [05:30] MatrixWins, what OS & release are you using? all supported releases should provide a lsb > 9.2 [05:30] This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or [05:30] is only available from another source [05:30] $ lsb_release -a [05:30] LSB Version:    core-11.1.0ubuntu2-noarch:printing-11.1.0ubuntu2-noarch:security-11.1.0ubuntu2-noarch [05:30] Distributor ID: Ubuntu [05:30] Description:    Ubuntu 20.10 [05:30] Release:        20.10 [05:31] Codename:       groovy [05:31] Ubuntu Studio [05:31] qt4 is EOL & removed from debian & ubuntu in 2019; the package is old & you should use a modern one (Qt4 was superceeded by Qt5 in Dec-2012) [05:33] the printer driver you have (if it wants Qt4) is an old one, you need a more recent version (I believe there have been workarounds on askubuntu, but I'd look for a newer version that is Qt5 & not really old Qt4) [05:33] !pastebinit please too [05:33] guiverc: I am only a bot, please don't think I'm intelligent :) [05:33] I downloaded the deb from epson.com with relese date [05:33]     02-17-2021. [05:33] !pastebinit [05:33] pastebinit is the command-line equivalent of !pastebin - Command output, or other text can be redirected to pastebinit, which then reports an URL containing the output - To use pastebinit, install the « pastebinit » package from a package manager - Simple usage: command | pastebinit [05:35] then I'd chase up with Epson; since Qt5 came out in Dec-2012, Qt4 is now EOL so it wouldn't make sense to package using something EOL/insecure [05:35] https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/SY9pgbJ379/ [05:36] this maybe helpful MatrixWins https://askubuntu.com/questions/1233178/epson-printer-utility-error-loading-shared-libraries [05:37] the accepted answer has a PPA where someone has packaged Qt4 for later releases for epson drivers [05:37] there is also an answer for someone on groovy/20.10 [05:39] Thanks. I always seem to buy the wrong hardware that is not properly supported;( . [05:54] It is not your fault. Most manufacturers say they do have linux drivers. what they don't usually say is how well they work [05:55] My recommendation for you if you can replace it (maybe still can return it) or for next time, is stick with HP. HP linux support has been awesome for a very long time [06:00] Treid  askubuntu suggestion, but does not work. [06:07] MatrixWins, which did you try? and pastebin your error maybe [06:19] first part is for 20.04, does not work for 20.10.  Second part still does not fix the install dependency problem [06:21] guess I'll revert back to KDE NEON which is still on 20.04 and then I can print again....
