IrcsomeBot<renedarioherrera> How can I remove other desktop environment? Remove Ubuntu, remove xfce?04:27
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> sudo apt remove ubuntu-desktop xfdesktop404:28
IrcsomeBot<renedarioherrera> thank you Darin.04:44
IrcsomeBot<renedarioherrera> ```ubuntu -desktop is not installed so not removed``` Is it maybe something else?04:45
IrcsomeBot<renedarioherrera> ```Package 'ubuntu-desktop' is not installed, so not removed```04:46
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> try  sudo apt remove ubuntu-gnome-desktop05:07
IrcsomeBot<renedarioherrera> nope, that isn't it either.05:08
IrcsomeBot<renedarioherrera> I'm going to keep looking around on the internet. Maybe I can find the correct package05:09
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Paste the link from this command: apt list *-desktop* | grep install | pastebinit05:10
IrcsomeBot<renedarioherrera> That's a good idea. I will try tomorrow and ping you. Thanks.05:22

AIBLCould someone program/code .. or suggest a program, which would beep if the computer/pc/laptop is on idle  ....  letting the user to switch off the idle pc/computer/laptop ?.  power management  allows to dim out screen  or  go into sleep or hibernate.. it doesn't have notification or beeper  option, so if one is away  from the laptop, you might as well forget.. and leave it on for long time.13:14
AIBL I don't know any ,  it would be much better for  prime OS distributions like debian/ubuntu/fedora/suse, rather than their derivatives to develop/distribute them inbuilt in the platform..  just an opinion13:18

BluesKajHowdy folks13:48
MaikBluesKaj: if someone named AIBL and i'm not around, tell them not to crosspost. They've been going around in various channels asking the same questions.13:53
Maik*if someone named AIBL returns13:53
BluesKajMaik, ok, I'll keep a lookout13:53

IrcsomeBot<renedarioherrera> I did ```sudo apt remove gnome-desktop3-data libgnome-desktop-3-7 libunity-scopes-json-def-desktop```17:48
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Hi Rene, Please pipe muli-line results to pastebinit and paste the respective link, i.e. : … apt list *-desktop* | grep install | pastebinit … https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/K4xFQWBq74/17:48
IrcsomeBot<renedarioherrera> Oh, sorry, when I tried that I got ```Failed to contact the server: HTTP Error 405: Method Not Allowed```17:49
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> np, just trying to keep the chat window a bit "tidier" :)17:49
IrcsomeBot<renedarioherrera> Yeah, I see that now. Sorry.17:50
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> So comparing your output with mine, you can uninstall xdg-desktop-portal-gtk17:53
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Also, what are the results of this command?  … ls /usr/share/xsessions17:55
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> remove the package 'ubuntu-session' ?17:56
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> sudo apt remove desktop-portal-gtk17:57
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Rene is trying to remove the non-plasma options from the SDDM login menu.18:03
IrcsomeBot<renedarioherrera> @DarinMiller, ```plasma.desktop  xfce.desktop  xubuntu.desktop```18:04
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> ```ubuntu-session: /usr/share/xsessions/ubuntu.desktop … xubuntu-default-settings: /usr/share/xsessions/xubuntu.desktop … xfce4-session: /usr/share/xsessions/xfce.desktop```18:07
IrcsomeBot<renedarioherrera> (Photo, 1280x1033) https://irc-attachments.kde.org/6s5f0ZlN/file_41817.jpg18:07
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> To clean up the non-plasma options from SDDM, try this command and logout to verify: …  sudo rm /usr/share/xsessions/x* … or  … sudo rm /usr/share/xsessions/xfce.desktop … sudo rm /usr/share/xsessions/xubuntu.desktop18:08
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Looks like the the uninstall process fails to clean up everything.18:09
IrcsomeBot<renedarioherrera> @DarinMiller, I ran this again after the restart. https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/KJX937JTGY/18:10
IrcsomeBot<renedarioherrera> I may have gotten a bit confused. These are the commands I've run: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/dwwb79kJmC/18:13
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> You missed the SDDM cleanup command: … sudo rm /usr/share/xsessions/x*18:14
krytarikI wouldn't remove files that are part of installed packages though.. O_o18:16
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> For some reason the uninstalls fail to clean up after themselves  (maybe I using purge instead of remove may have worked).18:16
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> i.e.  … sudo apt purge gnome-desktop3-data libgnome-desktop-3-7 libunity-scopes-json-def-desktop18:18
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> @RikMills, these are the packages with the desktop session files ^^18:19
IrcsomeBot<renedarioherrera> @RikMills, the ubuntu-sessions does not show up. but xfce4 does (and removed)18:21
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> I posted that list based on the last screenshot you had posted at the time18:22
IrcsomeBot<renedarioherrera> @DarinMiller, I'm going to reboot. hopefully I didn't break anything.18:23
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> logging out should be sufficient, but reboot is OK too.18:23
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Rik, what command are you recommending to have run to eliminate the non-plasma desktop options?18:25
IrcsomeBot<renedarioherrera> Looks like the other DE options are no longer there. Mission accomplished. Now I can get back to admiring how pretty KDE Plasma is. *One other thing* I might want to know is how to remove some of the gnome / xfce default applications? I have 3 document viewers installed - evince / atril / okuklar18:26
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> @DarinMiller, ```apt-get remove ubuntu-session xubuntu-default-settings xfce4-session```18:26
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> as those are the packages that contain the xsession files18:27
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Rene, sudo apt purge <package name>18:27
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Rik, ahhh, got it.18:29
