AIBLCould someone program/code .. or suggest a program, which would beep if the computer/pc/laptop is on idle  ....  letting the user to switch off the idle pc/computer/laptop ?.  power management  allows to dim out screen  or  go into sleep or hibernate.. it doesn't have notification or beeper  option, so if one is away  from the laptop, you might as well forget.. and leave it on for long time.13:14
AIBL I don't know any ,  it would be much better for  prime OS distributions like debian/ubuntu/fedora/suse, rather than their derivatives to develop/distribute them inbuilt in the platform..  just an opinion13:18

dragon2I have, but there isn`t much activity over there19:02
Maikhere either19:02
kc2bez[m]There is an option when you save the document.19:03

sp4I have any problem about my vsftpd20:57
kc2bez[m]o/20:57
sp4can you help me kc2bez[m] ?20:58
lubot[telegram] <teward001> ask your question first20:58
lubot[telegram] <teward001> if you have a problem you have to explain what your problem is first.20:58
sp4my vsftpd haven't the open port number 2120:59
sp4if i get nmap 192.168.0.102 i have the 21 port closed20:59
sp4jaron !21:00
kc2bez[m]What does `systemctl status vsftpd` show you sp4:21:00
sp4 vsftpd.service - vsftpd FTP server21:01

sp4feb 21 21:53:51 mulo systemd[1]: Started vsftpd FTP server.21:01
kc2bez[m]It is a little tough to read there a paste would be better next time. It doesn't look like vsftpd is running.21:03
kc2bez[m]!paste21:03
ubottuFor posting multi-line texts into the channel, please use https://paste.ubuntu.com | To post !screenshots use https://imgur.com/ !pastebinit to paste directly from command line | Make sure you give us the URL for your paste - see also the channel topic.21:03
kc2bez[m]try `systemctl start vsftpd` so you can see what is happening.21:04
sp4https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/BRJHqfv9Zb/21:05
lubot[telegram] <teward001> use systemctl -l status vsftpd21:06
sp4It say nothing21:06
lubot[telegram] <teward001> put the output on pastebin21:06
lubot[telegram] <teward001> because the error output is being truncated21:06
lubot[telegram] <teward001> *reminds kc2bez to always append -l to the list of args to systemctl when calling the status command*21:06
kc2bez[m]Thanks teward21:07
sp4https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/9c2fjzXDnY/21:07
lubot[telegram] <teward001> you sure that's systemctl -l status vsftpd?  Because that > at the end of the lines indicates there's an error generated but the lines are truncated21:08
sp4yes i m sure21:10
sp4what do you think kc2bez ?21:11
sp4maybe depend about the iptables  ?21:12
kc2bez[m]I think we are missing some of the info,21:12
sp4I putted a rules about iptable and ftp21:12
kc2bez[m]It doesn't look like it is running though21:12
sp421 port21:12
kc2bez[m]You can look at what ports are utilized `lsof -i`21:13
sp4it's not running21:13
lubot[telegram] <teward001> vsftpd isn't running21:13
lubot[telegram] <teward001> that's why it's not listening on the port21:13
kc2bez[m]^21:14
lubot[telegram] <teward001> do me a favor, run cat /lib/systemd/system/vsftpd.service | grep ExecStart and provide the output21:14
lubot[telegram] <teward001> because that'll get us the command you can run yourself that'll run the vsftpd process and *get* us the error codes21:14
lubot[telegram] <teward001> and any error messages not shown here by systemctl21:14
sp4nmap 192.168.0.10221:15
lubot[telegram] <teward001> don't care about the nmap output21:15
lubot[telegram] <teward001> we know the prov,em is because vsftpd isn't running21:15
sp4https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/Cq2vJTvxvK/21:15
lubot[telegram] <teward001> nmap will only show 'open' if a service is listening there21:15
lubot[telegram] <teward001> ;)21:15
lubot[telegram] <teward001> run this, get us the output from it (use paste.ubuntu.com again): `cat /lib/systemd/system/vsftpd.service | grep ExecStart`21:16
lubot[telegram] <teward001> without the backticks.21:16
lubot[telegram] <teward001> (stupid chat bridge >.<)21:16
kc2bez[m]Agreed here21:16
sp4https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/cGV4MqPBTG/21:17
tewardnow run: `sudo /usr/sbin/vsftpd /etc/vsftpd.conf`21:19
tewardput ALL output in a pastebin21:19
tewardTHIS will get us all the output and error code data21:19
teward(this is teward001 from the telgram side of the bridge, I'm on IRC for another reason now heh)21:19
sp4https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/485rnbMzKt/21:22
lubot[telegram] <teward001> there's your problem21:22
lubot[telegram] <teward001> you have an incorrect configuration21:22
sp4ok lobot21:22
sp4what do you suggesrt ?21:22
sp4i try to modify vsftpd.conf21:23
lubot[telegram] <teward001> edit your /etc/vsftpd.conf, find the offending line that says connect_from_port_21, put a # before it, and then start the service with the same command I gave you, see if there's any errors this time21:23
sp4I made that you said21:25
sp4and restart the service with systemctl restart vsftpd21:25
sp4nothing error21:25
sp4so right21:26
sp4it gone right21:26
kc2bez[m]`systemctl -l status vsftpd` says it is running?21:27
lubot[telegram] <teward001> it won't kc2bez21:27
lubot[telegram] <teward001> because i had them manually start it21:27
lubot[telegram] <teward001> hit ctrl+c21:27
lubot[telegram] <teward001> then run sudo systemctl start vsftpd21:27
sp4yes kc2bez21:27
lubot[telegram] <teward001> and make sure that port 21 is up :)21:27
lubot[telegram] <teward001> anyways, there you go, if you're up and running it's solved.21:27
sp4i made nmap 192.168.0.102 and port 21 is open21:27
lubot[telegram] <teward001> simple configuration problem :021:27

lubot[telegram] <teward001> you may want to visit the #ubuntu-server channel21:59
lubot[telegram] <teward001> this is the Lubuntu support channel, and server-centric issues are better suited for #ubuntu-server22:00
tewardsp4: you should probably ask this in #ubuntu-server unless this is an Lubuntu issue.  vsftpd is fairly outside the purview of *most* of the Lubuntu support people :P22:03
sp4I have lubuntu22:03
sp4not ubuntu22:03
tewardas a member of the server team, i'm suggesting you get help with vsftpd from #ubuntu-server because vsftpd is a *server* software, not an Lubuntu piece of software, and requires a different knowledgeset,22:04
tewardlubuntu or not, vsftpd is likely to get better support from #ubuntu-server than #lubuntu22:04
tewardsince i can name maybe 4 people here who know vsftpd enough, versus the larger server team where vsftpd and other questions come up regularly22:04
teward(THIS SAID, I suggest not using vsftpd for transferring files, FTP is an insecure protocol)22:04
sp4don't matter about the indsicure protocol because I haven't to put vsftpd in the internet22:05
tewardit's an obligatory statement (becuase i'm an IT Security guy too)22:05
tewardbut i reiterate: the Lubuntu team doesn't necessarily have the necessary knowledge to troubleshoot vsftpd issues.  The Server Team would.22:06
tewardUbuntu or not.  (Lubuntu is Ubuntu with the LXQt desktop and a specific set of packages, but the core underlying kernel, etc. is Ubuntu driven.)22:06
guivercforgive me, but anyone know an easy/the best "getting involved" page ?23:08
guivercmaybe that needs to be a page we add; or copy over from wiki (updating it to be current of course); currently everything points to links page; which I don't think is adequate..23:13
