[00:06] And I have a $400 router. [00:06] and a $100 modem. [00:07] nice - wish they had gigabit fiber in these parts - but Google stopped putting in lines about 5 miles South of here [00:07] As far as I know, it's not fiber, but could be wrong. I'm surprised I even get this speed because I live in the country. [00:08] Middle of a bunch of corn fields. [00:09] It's not cheap though, internet bill is $112 every month :/ [00:11] @Braillynn [It's not cheap though, internet bill is $112 every month :/], I'm paying $100/month for my mediocre internet service - so you are doing well. Now I want to ask is this actually linux underneath. Like can I use apt get and make i ngnix server? Like raspberry pi? [03:03] Or it's a stripped down version of Ubuntu? [03:04] Like Macos - >ios [03:04] It is actually Linux underneath, but you won't find it easy to make your phone into a server. [03:04] Why not? [03:04] It's based on Ubuntu, but it's modified to make it more usable as a consumer device. [03:04] We generally don't suggest using apt to install software, mostly because it's breaky [03:05] 😒😑 Got it [03:06] So basically that mean no apache, ngnix, sql [03:06] Nodejs [03:06] Python etc [03:06] It's basically a limited mobile os [03:06] Like ios [03:06] Not easily. You could do it, but you'd be better off buying a Raspberry Pi instead of trying to turn your phone into a server. [03:06] Ubuntu Touch just isn't made for that. [03:07] The problem with raspberry pi is lack of available modules [03:07] I can use phone for taking pictures, record sound. It's a built in device [03:07] And walking server with storage [03:08] Walking computer [03:08] And arm chip [03:08] Raspberry pi cpu is 💩 [03:08] You can make the root filesystem read-write and install anything you want from the Ubuntu 16.04 repositories. But you can never use the image-based upgrades again, you'll run into limitations on the size of the root filesystem, and you'll probably end up with a broken phone in a few weeks of upgrading. You could even keep the phone awake all the time so your server never goes down. Your battery life would be about 3 hours but it'd work. [03:13] ^^ I'll take a screenshot. Sound complex to me right now. New to UBport. But following the project for years [03:13] Overall, I'd advise against it. I don't think you'll have a good time, and you probably won't get anyone around here who will help you (since none of us do it) [03:14] Got it [03:14] Thankyou [03:37] @yashvermazxz [Hello members … As I'm new user to ubuntu … Can anyone suggest me using whatsapp in …], I do not use Whatsapp - but as far as I am aware the only thing that kind of works just for basic text chat with it right now is the WhatsWeb app available in the Open Store - https://open-store.io/app/alefnode.whatsweb [03:54] so I just updated my nexus 7 tablet, the open store doesnt wanna load now, nor does teleports, anyone else have this issue? [21:48] Excuse me as I do the happy dance. [21:51] Congrats! I remember finding that most of the Pebble-side apps didn't have much functionality on UT (seemingly much more on Android from my testing) but maybe I missed a step. Let us know how you find that side of it. [22:20] @papasfilms [I have a redmi note 7. That's the only phone that I have. I have been wanting to …], Yes, I did exactly this. Unlocking is a little bit of a chore, in that you need to use the Mi unlocking software (Windows only) for this. Make sure you put the phone into developer mode first and make sure USB debugging and OEM unlock is [22:20] enabled, prior to unlocking. Then the UBports installer can do a good job for you. As far as Redmi Note 7 on UT I found the following problems: phone calls had echo on receiver's end (although were clear on UT end), camera zoom was a tiny bit laggy, video recording froze at the first frame, and sometimes it took multiple swipes in order to quit a [22:20] pps in the multi-task cardstack view. Other than those issues it worked nicely with UT. I flashed it back to Lineage 17.1 using TWRP with no problem. [22:24] @TartanSpartan [Congrats! I remember finding that most of the Pebble-side apps didn't have much …], Rockwork doesn't offer all that many. But of course I immediately installed the compass. And it can give Telegram notifs, apparently. [23:08] @UniversalSuperBox [Never mind then], dalton was gonna be like nuke time
