k_szeDoes anybody have trouble getting the graphical login screen after updating nvidia drivers to nvidia-driver-460?14:06
k_szeAll I get now is the Dell splash logo after I decrypt the lvm2 volume.14:09
mikedkDell actually doesn't recommend linux for all their laptops & PCs, And Nvidia drivers is actually sensitive to kernel versions. So might be an issue there.14:22
mikedkWhich Kubuntu version are you running?14:22
BluesKaj!crosspost | k_sze14:23
ubottuk_sze: Please don't ask the same question in multiple Ubuntu channels at the same time. Many helpers are in more than one channel and it's not fair to them or the other people seeking support.14:23
mikedkk_sze: which Kubuntu version are you running?14:25
k_sze20.04.214:25
mikedkand which Dell model are you using?14:26
k_szeInspiron 758014:27
mikedkk_sze: I'm starting to see many machines that event can't run the new Kubuntu or Ubuntu versions at all cause of the newer kernels14:27
RikMillsk_sze: when did you update?14:28
RikMillsalso does the new nvidia-460 driver released to updates today help?14:29
mikedkk_sze: are your machine with an i7 or an i5 CPU?14:29
k_szemikedk, i714:30
BluesKajk_sze, where are you setting the gpu preference ?14:33
mikedkk_sze: that's the Intel CPUs having trouple at either 20.04 or 20.10. I believe it's actually caused by the kernel update. My HP Elitebook 8560w also with an i7, crashed after getting the newer 5.9 kernel update, after that, i couldt boot the machine. Made a 20.10 installer, installed fine, but could't boot after install. Now I'm on 14.04, NOT going back to KDE5/Plasma5 again.14:33
RikMillsk_sze: I saw other users this morning have issue with the latest kernel update and the 460 driver. Upgrading to 460.39 which was released to updates 5 hrs ago, helped them14:37
BluesKajI'm testing Kubuntu Hirsute 21.04 here on a Dell 5570 i5 cpu with no graphics problems on the new 5.10.0-14 kernel14:37
BluesKajthose optimus gpu systems are problematic at the best of times on linux14:39
k_szeand now it can't even load the nvidia driver after I `apt uninstall --purged` every nvidia package and reinstalled them.14:43
mikedkBluesKaj: I'm not seeing issues with i5 CPUs but with i7 CPUs, So I think it's related to i7 only for now.14:45
BluesKajmikedk,ok14:47
mikedkk_sze: maybe time to go back to an earlier Kubuntu version. maybe 18.04? You can always upgrade the kernel from mainline kernel archive https://kubuntu.org/news/kubuntu-18-04-has-been-released/14:47
mikedkk_sze: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/14:49
IrcsomeBot<Stefan Kramer> No, it's also the i5 CPU. I also had problems this morning with i5.14:52
mikedkhhmm, thanks IrcsomeBot14:55
BluesKajwell, if anyone with gpu problems is adventurous, rather than revert back to an older OS try the new pre-release 21.04 Hirsute OS which is very stable atm15:17
Maikmikedk: that's just a bot connected to telegram. Stefan Kramer is the one who replied15:31
mikedkMaik: I know15:31
Maikoh15:32
Maikok then15:32
mikedkMaik: but the bot just put the old message out here, now we're talking about the same issue15:32
mikedkMaik: Telegram? :-D15:33
MaikYes telegram. Let's cut the offtopic banter now shall we?15:34
BluesKajmikedk, telegram is just a different method of connecting to irc15:47
BluesKaj!telegram15:47
BluesKajhmm, no bot explanation15:48
mikedkSo you can join IRC through telegram?15:48
BluesKajyes, it's a pita as far as I'm concerned :-)15:49
IrcsomeBotmiksedk was added by: miksedk15:52
IrcsomeBot<miksedk> Aah yes I see now 🤣15:52
IrcsomeBot<miksedk> :-D15:52
mikedkSo I guess you only connect though the bot available15:54
mikedkYou can't connect to channels that doesn't have that bot available15:56
BluesKajdunno, I haven't looked into it much from the user standpoint15:58
BluesKajthink it's phone thing mostly, altho there all kinds of irc clien/apps that work properly on irc16:00
BluesKajfor phones16:00
mikedkI just tried to find another channel that Iøm connected through Quassel here. and that didn't come up in search through Telegram16:00
mikedkI just wrote as miksedk through Telegram app16:01
BluesKajprobly need to add it in the telegram settings16:01
BluesKajI prefer "real" irc clients, telegram is half assed16:05
MaikTelegram isn't a IRC client for one, it's an alternative to Whatsapp16:07
Maikafaik16:07
Maiksecond, bridges must be used to connect to IRC16:07
Maikbut again, this is a offtopic discusson imo16:08
Maiklet's just move this over to #kubuntu-offtopic16:08
BluesKajit's not offtopic IMO16:10
mikedkMaik: I have to agree with BluesKajon this16:13
mikedkMaik: I have to agree with BluesKaj on this16:14
MaikBluesKaj: to me it is because it is not a Kubuntu related support question16:17
Maikmikedk: *shrug*16:17
BluesKajoff or ontopic, it's not a big deal, but I think these telegram users should be using real irc clients to connect to #kubuntu16:18
RikMillsI agree16:18
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> I don't16:18
BluesKajhehe16:19
RikMills-Mor maybe just matrix16:20
RikMillsah. forgot about that16:21
BluesKajand the telegram site looks like it's designed by cartoonists appealing to kids ...this is offtopic, so i stop here :-)16:22
