[00:03] hi === EtherMan_ is now known as EtherMan === lubuntu is now known as Guest82553 [07:30] on lub's site, it says not to use kernel 5.8 because of bugs... 20.04.2 now comes with 5.8... am I missing something? [07:38] what kernel are we suppose to use if it ships with 5.8? [09:07] Deano59: There were specific issues with the 5.8 kernel and those maybe solved now. === daniel is now known as Guest41148 [13:09] kc2bez[m]: maybe? not according to lub's site they're not. [13:10] If you follow the links to the Ubuntu Discourse I am pretty sure they are. We need to update our Discourse post. [13:17] Deano59: Updated Lubuntu Discourse post: https://discourse.lubuntu.me/t/solved-focal-and-5-8-hwe-kernel-woes/2134 [13:31] That post was from last month when people got the 5.8 kernel on their machines with the updates while they schould not, there we're issues with that specific 5.8 kernel release. Now with the recent 20.04.0.2 point release, 5.8.0-44 is shipped as HWE kernel and everything is solved. So it's safe to use the kernel. [13:31] we're/were [13:41] thanks kc2bez[m] :) pissed off I installed 20.10.... now I should go back to 20.04.2 :D [13:44] Deano59: I wouldn't get upset, 20.10 has been good for me. I have had it installed since October. It has a newer version of LXQt so there are some improvements there. [13:44] just keep using 20.10 and keep upgrading until the next LTS, then stick to that... [13:44] Exactly [14:00] kc2bez[m]: yeah I just don't like the idea of only 9 months support :) but I guess I could upgrade when the new one is out April. [14:01] will the April release be an LTS? [14:02] [telegram] 21.04? No . The LTS version is 22.04 [14:02] This April release is not a LTS release. I have upgraded this box from 18.10 every interim release. Upgrades have gone well for me. [14:07] oh :D thanks. [14:08] I'll see how 20.10 is and the upgrade to 21 - if it's bad I'll just go back to 20.04.2 :D [14:08] LTS release come out every two years [14:11] thanks for your help kc2bez[m] :) [14:11] you too, N0um3n0 :) [14:11] see ya, for now.... [17:18] My laptop (which runs Lubuntu 20.04) has a bad battery, so I always keep the brightness very low, but every time that I plug the computer in or restart it, the brightness reverts back to a higher value. Is there any way to fix this? Is there a setting that I am missing somewhere?
