marco_polohey Drew_Swissroll this is marx in global travel mode ;-)16:36
Drew_SwissrollHey Hey! I was writing something to you. It's good to see you again. So global travel mode, is it on a phone what sort of device?16:47
Drew_Swissrollpolo being the volkswagen I'm guessing? :)16:48
marco_pololol16:50
marco_polothis is an old hp laptop16:50
marco_poloin the tv room16:51
marco_polo_marx_: is in the computer room ;-)16:51
marco_polobasically the other end of a small house16:51
marco_polothis one16:54
marco_polohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marco_Polo16:54
Drew_SwissrollI also have debian on a little hp laptop. Well notebook really. Windows 7 starter didn't really run well on it. This one has debian buster(10) That one has debian stretch(9), both with i3wm, only I chose lxde for the mini as the desktop, and of course i3 is the window manager. It only has 1gb ram. And encourages me to bad habits(swiss keyboard). Although it sort of made more sense with vim.16:55
Drew_SwissrollAs the dollar key is near the return button.16:55
Drew_SwissrollNow checking out your link16:55
marco_pololol, it's just the original16:58
Drew_SwissrollInteresting. I especially enjoyed the Fra Mauro Map. I had heard of him. Whatever I had learned didn't stick though. So it wasn't that much. I didn't know about the common misconception about importing pasta from china.17:02
Drew_SwissrollDoes Marx stand for Karl Marx?17:04
marco_pololol, no the other one17:05
marco_polohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groucho_Marx17:05
marco_pololol17:05
marco_polosome of his stuff would probably get banned on current social media17:11
Drew_SwissrollInteresting I might have seen some of his stuff. And yet never really knew. He sounded like he influenced a lot of people17:13
Drew_SwissrollWell, it was a different time.17:13
* marco_polo is old17:14
marco_poloi didn't see groucho live old17:14
Drew_Swissrollethically I'm mostly left leaning when it comes to topics. But I'm flexible. I have a diverse humour.17:15
Drew_SwissrollAlthough I hate the term left and right. Because it doesn't feel so black and white17:16
Drew_SwissrollDo you watch documentaries?17:16
marco_polosometimes17:18
marco_poloi listen to NPR on my daily commute17:19
Drew_SwissrollNice. I used to listen to NPR with my Ex (to be ex wife). I do sort of miss it. I try not to listen to the radio at this point in my life. The reason I was asking was, did you see the documentary about cambridge analytica "the great hack"17:20
marco_poloi'm registered for voting as "unaffliated"17:21
marco_poloin nc you can choose which primary election you vote in if you are unaffiliated17:23
Drew_SwissrollYeah I noticed that with my ex at the DMV.17:25
Drew_SwissrollI'm not allowed to vote as I'm a permanent resident. But I would say I leanr more green party, pirate party, and if there was ones for libraries/wikipedia I would be that party. And a GNU party LOL17:27
Drew_SwissrollThe GNU world order LOL17:27
Drew_SwissrollMy apologies just being silly17:27
marco_pololol no prob, the GNU party hum17:28
Drew_SwissrollOver here it's more Democrat or Republican. And I don't know the entire history. I hope it's not offensive. It's just a thought. My to-be ex in-laws were strongly republican. And on the limbaugh train. So pretty heavily republican. And I did do a bit of research. And it felt to me as if Dwight D Eisenhour was perhaps the last real republican17:30
marco_pologood research, the american south is now largely republican, but in the 1860's the parties were reversed17:32
marco_poloso it was the democrats that voted to leave the union17:32
Drew_SwissrollOh, but yes. About the documentary called the Great Hack. As you mentioned social media. It's pretty crazy when you think once upon a time if you didn't know someone's number you would use the phone book. Now it's facebook. And foreign countries like russia creating fb groups looking to destabilise countries. Even creating groups, pushing susceptible people to becoming more extreme on either17:33
Drew_Swissrollside17:33
Drew_SwissrollI heard about it being reversed. But I did not know it was democrats who voted to leave the union17:34
marco_poloLincoln was one of the first republicans17:36
Drew_SwissrollYeah, I knew about that.17:36
Drew_SwissrollI don't have so much time to pay attention to the news at the moment. But when I do I mainly look to the guardian17:37
Drew_SwissrollI just stay away from the opinion section of it17:37
marco_polooh, that's one i haven't looked at17:38
marco_polobbc twice a day17:38
Drew_SwissrollI've found that with the guardian it was the news source over here that doesn't seem to push a narrative. I did like the intercept. That was Glenn Greenwald's child. He was a journalist at the guardian. If you've ever seen the documentary citizen four about edward snowden. Glenn Greenwald was the journalist in that. But then he left the intercept, because they didn't like his anti joe biden17:41
Drew_Swissrollstuff. Naturally if there's a topic about tech, then I would look to eff.org to see what they have said.17:42
Drew_SwissrollI haven't really seen any bbc stuff since a while. I would if I had the time17:42
Drew_SwissrollSüddeutsche zeitung if I had the time. If it's some sort of international affair. I used to like reading what Richard Stallman had to say about things on stallman.org. But like I said I don't really have so much time.17:44
marco_polooh, i just usually read the headlines17:44
marco_pololooking at how the different outlets present things17:45
Drew_SwissrollI understand. Sometimes what I've done is look for discussions on reddit before.17:48
Drew_SwissrollFor instance during the Bernie Sanders vs. Andrew Yang time17:49
Drew_SwissrollThen found someone pointing to a study and statistics against raising the minimum wage. Then put that non-profit research institute into wikipedia17:50
marco_polowell to totally change the subject, what kind of music do you like?17:50
Drew_SwissrollAnf found out the founder was, I forget what he was called. But something like the fast food industries wet dream, or something like that. Just a lot of studies that seemed to support big corporations. And that study seemed to come from the same one17:51
Drew_SwissrollOh sorry. Very diverse music. Nearly anything except jazz. Even a little jazz.17:52
Drew_SwissrollNot so much into rap and hiphop these days as I one was. What about yourself?17:52
Drew_SwissrollMostly I enjoy silence XD17:53
marco_polowell dad listened to country so had to rebel and listen to rock17:54
marco_polooh, a classic! the sound of silence17:54
Drew_SwissrollDo you happen to have a Harley to gowith that rock? lol17:54
marco_pololol, no but a big doobie maybe ;-)17:56
marco_poloah lingo, a doobie is a joint17:56
Drew_SwissrollActually to mention classic. I was listening to some music that "makes you feel like a villain" usually they are playlists on youtube. Can be classical. Or can be very epic orchestral music with a sinister tone. What are your favourites when it comes to rock, vs what were your favourites when you were younger and rebelling?17:56
Drew_SwissrollI understand :)17:57
Drew_SwissrollI believe some people still call it that. If not I've heard it somewhere.17:57
marco_pololol, i got some good stuff today17:58
marco_polohum, bob seager, the almond brothers, trying to recall others17:59
Drew_SwissrollYeah. I roll my own cigarettes. I find with a lot of people it's so strong. It makes me feel old. I don't mind a little. Just to feel relaxed.18:00
marco_polopink Floyd for sure18:00
Drew_Swissrollpink floyd, nice :)I think I've heard of the other two. I'll have to check them later to remind myself who they are. Sometimes I'll know the song and just don't know who it was. Until I discover it. Or rediscover it.18:02
marco_pololol18:04
marco_polopink floyd war story, i think it was the dark side of the moon album, this girl would come over and clean the seeds out of the once we'd just bought on that album cover18:05
Drew_SwissrollVery sweet. And then you married her lol. I think there's something beautiful about having enough land to grow anything, vegetables and whatnot.18:08
marco_polothen this kind of stuff... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PLq0_7k1jk18:08
Drew_SwissrollAlright. I should go shower. I should probably re-write this thing I was writing to you. Or scrap it entirely. Or jump into my thing. There should be this girl from one of the apartments upstairs getting back from work in a couple of hours. And we might be going for a walk together I think. We're both trying to be a bit more active. Try and get a bit more of that fresh air. Now checking your18:09
Drew_Swissrolllink18:09
Drew_SwissrollYes I know that one lol. That's what my Granddad would play often in his ham shack where one of my first computers were at.18:11
marco_pololol, might be apropos18:11
marco_polodamn granddad, now i feel old ;-)18:14
