[13:27] Ok, interesting issue, OvenWerks with studio-controls. It's been open for a while (so don't know if that's related) and I decided to change my buffer size setting. Hit apply changes and jack didn't stop. Hit Stop Jack and jack doesn't stop. Going to restart controls and see if that fixes it. [13:29] yes, that fixed it [15:58] Brian Hechinger: That's because buffer size change shouldn't require a restart of jack. [16:14] Eickmeyer[m]: yes it does [16:15] It didn't used to... [16:15] even if it doesn't that wasn't the issue [16:15] studio-controls was wedged [16:16] Eickmeyer[m]: buffer size can be changed without restarting jack, but the reality is that almost every jack client around (including zita-ajbridge) chokes on a buffer size change [16:17] BrianHechinger[m: that would be autojack, the backend of studio-controls [16:18] OvenWerks: Ok, that makes sense. [16:18] BrianHechinger[m: which version of studio-controls are you using? (it should be at the top of the screen) [16:18] OvenWerks: 2.1.2 [16:18] would restarting studio-controls touch autojack? [16:21] Eickmeyer[m]: have you packaged 2.1.4? [16:21] OvenWerks: Yep, it's in hirsute and backported. [16:21] BrianHechinger[m: if autojack is hung yes [16:24] BrianHechinger[m: when studio-controls first starts it pings autojack if it gets no reply, then the first time it tries to communicate with autojack it starts a new one. the new one looks for old pids and kill -9 them. [16:38] BrianHechinger[m: if you can get it to happen again... I would like to get some info... from the system tweaks tab, if you could set logging level to Extra. (before the problem happens) and send me the logfile ( ~/.log/autojack.log). [16:39] BrianHechinger[m: you can do this by with the line: cat ~/.log/autojack.log |pastebinit [16:40] And post the url here [16:40] Ok, I've set the logging to Extra, I'll let you know if it happens again. [16:42] BrianHechinger[m: of course upgrading to 1.2.4 would be good too [16:45] upgrading what to 1.2.4? or did you typo 2.1.4? :-D [16:47] :) [16:48] how do I upgrade to 2.1.4? [16:48] jabbering in the back ground :P [16:48] Brian Hechinger: It should be available through normal updates if you have the backports PPA enabled. [16:49] open ubuntustudio-installer and click on enable backports PPA [16:50] the update should show in the normal way software updates [16:54] I have backports, let me do an apt update [16:54] ah ha, there it is! [16:55] I can't tell you how much I look forward to 22.04 so I can get LivePatch again. :) [16:57] Ok, 2.1.4 installed [16:57] still set to Extra for logging [16:57] if anything happens I'll let you know [16:57] Also, no need to cat the logfile to pastebinit, it'll take it as an argument: pastebinit ~/.log/autojack.log [17:05] I just did something meta: "man pastebinit | pastebinit": https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/r4v2RxpcKc/ [17:07] hahaha, nice [17:20] BrianHechinger[m: Thanks for the info, I have never looked at the docs for pastebinit [17:21] I'm sure I haven't either. :) [17:21] I just naturally assume all tools are sane. Sometimes I'm right. [22:46] Eickmeyer[m]: your seed and meta has plasma-discover-snap-backend which is a now NBS. should be changed to plasma-discover-backend-snap [22:46] https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/nbs.html [22:47] RikMills: Ok, will do. Thanks! :)
