[11:40] My friend who is a professional musician gave me a tip that this place https://www.modartt.com/ has some really high quality synths, so I proceeded to download them both (grand piano & organ). I can't get the standalone program to start, but the packages contain also .lv2 files, so I looked and I should be able to load them to into Ardour [11:41] oh yeah, and I am the same guy as twojukeboksi. kinda inbetween nick juggling === Iamahuman is now known as Iamahuman4 [12:46] Czesć Polska Souler [12:47] I hope I got that somewhat right [12:50] hello Iamahuman4 [12:52] Polska - country, - Polak - Person, polski - adjective [12:55] thanks for the instruction [12:57] I did speak mediocre Russian when pretending to study it for 8.5 yrs, but when I was at Warsaw Central Train Station and I was like 14 yr old on train trip to Prague with my mom, I tried to buy some water and then the lady goes "Gazovnii .. Nigazovnii" (iirc) and I just froze and could not decipher she is asking with bubbles or not [12:58] totally different langs naturally [13:00] Gazowana czy niegazowana :) [13:04] When I was on Warsaw Central Train Station I expected him to say: Warszawa Główna... trust me, i'm a musician, i have a good ear, she said Warszawa Gówniarz, whats mean Warsaw whipster [13:05] Główna/Gówniarz, sounds similar [14:57] Hey. I hooked my Fender Mustang modeling amp's USB to the US and I'm getting ridiculously low signal levels. There is no mixer for it in alsamixer. I cranked the boost in Ardour to max, but still skimpy quiet signal. What to do? [15:03] twojukeboksi: is there sound coming out of the speaker as well? [15:06] twojukeboksi: my workaround for that back when I used to hook up a USB-amp directly into my machine was to simply crank up the gain on the amp so it got to a reasonably good level digitally, and then just plug in a pair of headphones into the aux on the speaker, so I didn't have to worry about neighbours etc. Hopefully there is one on yours? [15:07] twojukeboksi: alternatively just load up a simple amplifier in Carla, or however you normally choose to run plugins, and route the USB-speaker through that first, boost up the gain, then route it onwards to where you wanna record [15:08] twojukeboksi: but if there really is just a quiet signal... and none of this solves it? Then you've got bigger problems I'm afraid.. Get a cheap external sound-card that can take a jack directly from the amp instead and record that way. You're gonna need that sound card eventually anyways :) [15:10] twojukeboksi: actually, I think I remember now [15:11] twojukeboksi: you might need to run $: alsa_in -dhw:x (x being whatever number the speaker comes out as when you run $: lsusb) [15:11] Or perhaps it was alsa_out, lol, can't recall. But if none of this fixes the issue then I don't know what the hell is up with your setup [15:18] thanks for info sirriffsalot. What does that '-dhw:x' do ? [15:48] sirriffsalot: running alsa_in is not needed in this case and would provide lower quality than the zita_a2j that he is already using [15:48] twojukeboksi: if there is no level in alsamixer, then the controls are on te amp itself. [15:49] twojukeboksi: probably physical knobs [15:50] twojukeboksi: sirriffsalot is correct though in that the amp may be painfully loud before the signal is right. [15:51] twojukeboksi: I expect the amp has a master volume which comes after the ADC that can be truned down and the inputs turned up [15:52] twojukeboksi: for good recording, it is normal to record an input with it's level -12 to -20 dB FS [15:53] twojukeboksi: this allows headroom for peaks you can't see with metering (or generally hear) so they will not be clipped and then you will hear them in a bad way. [16:01] Fender's manual for this device is not very good. [16:03] twojukeboksi: there is one line that sounds bad: "Use Fender ®FUSE™ software to control your Mustang from your computer and access bonus amp features not available from the Mustang alone." [16:11] twojukeboksi: then from the fender website: "Effective March 20, 2020 Fender® FUSE™ has been discontinued." [16:12] twojukeboksi: anyway, I expect that if you turn the master down on the amp and turn up levels in the preamp/effects area, conmputer levels will improve [16:14] Fender's manuals are written for those who have no idea what any of the effects should do in real life but just want to sound like EVH or whoever. [16:22] i found this github, 2018 https://github.com/snhirsch/mustang-midi-bridge [17:46] thanks for help people [17:47] it turns out there is a parameter for "USB output Gain" in the UI of the amp [18:16] OvenWerks: twojukeboksi sorry had to step out. Yeah, I had no idea what he was running, but he sounded new to this so I thought I might cover everything that might help [18:17] twojukeboksi: there you go! Glad you figured it out. Happy recording :) [18:18] OvenWerks: isn't it so that you can define the quality with some additional commands with alsa_in? [18:20] Anyone have any suggestions for music players in US? [18:57] sirriffsalot: there is a reason studio-controls uses zita-ajbridge instead of alsa_in/out: [18:58] sirriffsalot: zita-ajbridge has better quality SRC, it uses less CPU, it allows values for SR, buffer size that are different from jack, it allows a no SRC mode for synced devices. [19:13] sirriffsalot: studio-controls sets up zita-ajbridge for the user when a USB device is plugged in and that device will just show up on the jack graph (in carla or whatever) [19:36] Greetings. Just installed a US update that included studio controls. After rebooting, there is no sound from any app at all. It was fine earlier today. Just been poking around in studio controls settings, pulse bridging especially. In the auto connect port I have options for 'Main Output' Ports and 'system: playback_' through 6. Can' t remember what was there before I started poking around and changing it. Any [19:36] suggestions. I can send screenshots. I am using Focusrite 6i6 2nd gen. [19:39] Sorry should be 'system:playback_1 system: playbsck_2 through 6. [20:05] chris_uk[m]: thank you for asking. I am not sure I will be able to help today as I am a bit ill. [20:07] chris_uk[m]: just to be sure we are talking about the same stuff, studio controls shows version 2.1.4? [20:09] * OvenWerks wonders how come everything works for him until someone else uses it. [20:10] Yes V2.1.4. Sorry to hear you are ill. Wish a speedy recovery. Leave it til you are well. [20:38] It is OK. Poked around some more and it is sorted. In Audio Connect Port I changed input to system: capture_1 and out to system:playback_1. Copied what was on the US documentation page. Get well! [20:48] chris_uk[m]: thank you, I am having a procedure tomorrow and part of the prep makes one sick. I should be fine when the meds wear off. [20:48] Instead of capture_1, there was 1 digit in the input box when I first viewed studio-controls. [20:48] right. That makes sense [20:49] at one time we assumed system:playback_* and so saved it that way [20:50] now we know the user may choose something other than system:* [20:50] so we have to save the actual full port name [20:50] OvenWerks: aight, thanks for the info :) [20:50] sirriffsalot: no problem [20:51] Best of luck with your procedure tomorrow [20:52] thanks, one hopes they find nothing.
