maggotbrainSo I saw the request for assistance from bluesabre on the request for help with the "docs-refresh branch on the Xubuntu GitHub"03:11
maggotbrainAre there any clear instructions on getting those docs moved from the google drive location into the repos?03:12
jphilipzmaggotbrain: are you familiar with the dockbook format?04:28
maggotbrainI;ve had to deal with it a few times.04:31
maggotbrainDo you have a process or is this involve a bunch on manual munging?04:41
maggotbrainDo you actually have a process in place to ingest these documents? Or, are what you _actually_ asking for is for someone to create an ingestion  process for you?04:58
jphilipzmaggotbrain: we have google docs, we want moved to dockbook. i presume it would need to be done manually.05:04
maggotbrainAgain, are there any guidelines? How do you want them moved? What are the step that you expect to occur?05:06
jphilipzbluesabre: is the repo for the pushing of the dockbook work available and is it activate on transfix05:06
jphilipzmaggotbrain: bluesabre is the best to ask, as i don't have a clue05:07
maggotbrainSomeone downloads the google docs, runs some freakin' magic docbook commands and does what???....05:08
maggotbrainI'm obviously a bit exasperated; but, if yoone is calling for volunteers and has no idea how to instruct a volunteer to approach the task there is a problem05:12
maggotbrainI would love to help but the scope is entirely unclear05:12
maggotbrainThe request for volunteers is kinda exasperating, to be honest.05:31
bluesabremaggotbrain, unfortunately, it's a very manual process. Docbook is an XML format with strict validation. You can see where I moved one of the docs to docbook here: https://github.com/Xubuntu/xubuntu-docs/commit/b37e641b5ef4a3a4f196b086912e59b68be4aefe and where I fixed the validation and got the tests to pass here: https://github.com/Xubuntu/xubuntu-docs/commit/5a69bf24b8e8999aa10f932dd942d0f3e4d2bb5510:44
ubot3Commit b37e641 in Xubuntu/xubuntu-docs "Update what-is-xubuntu.xml"10:44
ubot3Commit 5a69bf2 in Xubuntu/xubuntu-docs "Fix DTD validation"10:44
bluesabreThe goal is to get these updated docs into that docs-refresh branch with passing validation: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/10nsLPokttFjG9g4x4mLBYNkTyO0izy5H10:44
bluesabreDocbook is not an unknown format, so I know there are some folks in the community with the background to do this effectively, but they're seemingly missing10:45
bluesabrePart of the complication is that the new docs make use of various figures and images, which makes it even harder getting the strict validation to pass10:47
bluesabreI guess the easiest way forward would be to just dump the text and images in the most basic format into the branch and let others hack on fixing the formatting.10:53
JackFrostSo when the topic of policykit agent came up, I looked a bit into things.  I wonder if the mate tool might serve us better, since the one we use hasn't had a release since 2012...10:56
bluesabreYeah, that seems reasonable to me.11:00
JackFrostThere's of course https://sources.debian.org/src/mate-polkit/1.24.0-2/src/polkit-mate-authentication-agent-1.desktop.in.in/#L811:08
bluesabreIf we want to go that route, a ping to Wimpress might get Xfce added to it :)11:29
JackFrostI guess I can replace my polkit agent and see how it works.11:32
-SwissBot:#xubuntu-devel- ::xfce4-announce:: ANNOUNCE: xfce4-cpufreq-plugin 1.2.5 released @ http://xfce.10915.n7.nabble.com/ANNOUNCE-xfce4-cpufreq-plugin-1-2-5-released-tp59899.html (by Jan Ziak)19:44
maggotbrainbluesabre: thanks for details. I will take a look at your work and see if it is something that I can commit time to assisting with. Thanks!20:53
kiwi_5 hello23:49
kiwi_5How can I help with the documentation?23:50
JackFrostIt's pretty much taking it from some doc and converting it to docbook's XML right now.23:52
