zennhello guys just a small issue01:49
zennmy script stopped working in the startup01:49
zennhttps://github.com/hexvalid/Linux-CapsLock-Delay-Fixer01:49
zennThere is a delay while switching to lowercase... That problem occurs in every Linux-based operating system since years and it is still not fixed. I've tried different desktop computers, laptops, netbooks. Still same.01:51
zennreally appreciate if someone fix this issue.01:51
oerheksdid you file a bugreport, or add yourself to an existing ubuntu bugreport, not github?01:52
zennwell mostly it goes unignore01:53

zennthe issue is with xorgserver01:53

Zilenc3Hey I have a computer which has VGA and DVI output. Xubuntu detects both. The TV saw the DVI signal on BIOS splash screen, but even though its recognized in "Display" and is seemingly active, there's no signal to the second display (TV).03:08

leftyfbeelstrebor: was either of those computers upgraded from 18.04 or a previous version?03:36

leftyfbzenn: the bug has been reported. There's nothing left to do here now. The Ubuntu devs don't typically hang around here. They certainly don't fix bugs because someone complained about them here. All you can do now is wait.03:42
zennwell yeah sadly I know they dont03:43
zennit is painful to wait for 10 years and the bug isnt fixed at all03:43
leftyfbzenn: good luck03:44

guivercHoLyDea7h, you can do an 'unclean' install; something-else; use existing partitions wihtout format & it'll erase system directories, install new system, then attempt to add back additional packages you had added to your system (if available from Ubuntu repos); but if issue is a broken user config (in $HOME or user directory) the issue will remain.. back to ThinkT510's comment08:35

Xatenev_does anyone have a clue how to debug random full pc freezes?09:38
remhazeHi09:38
remhazeSomething should caracteristic this freeze.09:39

Xatenev_nope, my pc is quite good09:41
Xatenev_and it doesn't happen on windows ( i have dual boot )09:41
Xatenev_at some days, my pc is running fine for ~6 hours, sometimes it crashes twice in 2 hours09:41
Xatenev_and I kinda do the same thing every day, start the same programs, do the same stuff etc09:41
Xatenev_the only thing that helps then is shutting the pc down via the button on the pc09:42

ajoxhey @ all, i am building an raid 0 array with just 2 (identical) 1TB HDDs. The goal is to increase write and readingspeed. The usage will be as data partition. I directly created an xfs filesystem on the new raid device (no more partitions). Chunk size of the raid is 64kb. Than i read a bit about mountoptions and other tunables. These raid0, xfs, Desktop tuning.. articles are mostly old and than i heared, that xfs is optimized for per10:47
ajoxance out of the box. So iam not sure if my setup is good. This was my fs creation cmd: "mkfs.xfs -b size=4096 -d sunit=128,swidth=256 -L Daten /dev/md/Daten" and this is my fstab line: "UUID=056500ac-3ee1-4f4f-9cbb-25a3298a45c9  /daten  xfs    sunit=128,swidth=256,x-gvfs-show,inode64  0  0"10:47
ajoxThe Data patition is running fine but iam not sure if this is a good setup because when i benchmark the drives single i get about 80mb/sec. and if i benchmark the raid i get less (about 70MB/sec.) so i think about recreating the raid and xfs filesystem without sunit, swidth an so on. What do you think?=10:47

jimmybHeyo, I've got 20.04.2 installed and it keeps giving me an NMI message, but I can't for the life of me figure out what's causing it/where it's coming from. I've been Googling to no avail. The message I get is -- "Uhhuh. NMI received for unknown reason 21 on CPU 0". I've tried resetting my RAID card, removing RAM, but no luck. Oddly enough, I tried11:57
jimmybputting the SSD I previously had in the system back in, booted from it, no NMI message lol I tried to see any differences but didn't see any. Any ideas or tips on where to go next would be very much appreciated. BluesKajHi folks12:11
summonnerjimmyb, from what I can determine, it was solved in an earlier version of the kernel, just trying to find the solution from back then12:12
jimmybIt started around February 23 I believe.12:13
jimmybI could have sworn the old SSD/install was using the same kernel, but I could be wrong.12:13
summonnerjimmyb, you've got nmi_watchdog=0  already in your kernel boot string, you should also add   nohpet12:14
jimmybYeah, I had tried setting nmi_watchdog=0 but it did nothing, something else was enabling it.12:14
jimmybSo I removed it12:14
summonnerBy disable the NMI watchdog and the high precision event timer (HPET) it should stop the message12:14

metbsdi don't play games20:28
oerheksvnc gives a lag anyway20:28
metbsdjust watch some video20:28
metbsdit's not vnc20:28
EriC^^i wonder if just changing the resolution would also work, might be worth trying 'xrandr -q' with the laptop display on and off and see if there's some difference for the external monitor's resolution, maybe choosing the other works if they're different20:29
leftyfbmetbsd: install the proper video drivers for your chipset. You have a complaint related to video, install the proper drivers. Whether you play video games or not is irrelevant20:31
metbsdthere's no way to fix it20:32
metbsd?20:32
raffaem2when I open a new application, the focus doesn't switch to it20:32
raffaem2how to fix?20:32
EriC^^raffaem2: maybe it's some window manager setting, did you try the guest account or creating a fresh user to test?20:33
EriC^^metbsd: try 'xrandr -q' with the display on, and again with it off and pastebin the results, in case it helps20:33
metbsdEriC^^, if i install that nv driver, will i be able to use two cards in the same time?20:33
metbsdlike app 1 use intel, app2 use nv20:34
oerheksraffaem2, normally it is the other way, new app stealing focus.20:34
metbsdnot all intel or all nv20:34
EriC^^metbsd: i've no idea, i'd imagine so though20:35
EriC^^i think nvidia-prime is what handles that? you do have it currently installed20:35
metbsdthat's right i have nvidia-prime20:37
leftyfbmetbsd: install the proper drivers20:39
metbsdthis driver is improper?20:39
leftyfbmetbsd: which driver did you install?20:39
oerheksmovies with nouveau ..20:39
metbsdi didn't install any dirver20:40
oerheks30 frams maybe20:40
metbsdubuntu installation did20:40
leftyfbmetbsd: ok, then install the proper nvidia driver20:40
metbsdiso installer20:40
raffaem2EriC^^: oerheks: I found it20:40
leftyfb!nvidia | metbsd20:40
ubottumetbsd: For nvidia and matrox graphics cards, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VideoDriverHowto . For AMD/ATI graphics cards, see « /msg ubottu ati » and « /msg ubottu fglrxmissing » For the latest Nvidia drivers see https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa20:40
raffaem2GNOME Tweaks -> Windows -> Center New Windows20:40
oerheksraffaem2, does that affeect focus too?20:41
metbsdbut after install that, do i still get a chance to run different apps on different cards? or switch everything20:41
leftyfbmetbsd: no idea. That is a completely different issue. One that will not be solved in your current state20:42
EriC^^metbsd: you could always uninstall the driver if it doesn't suit you20:44
metbsdany difference between nvidia driver and nvidia driver server?20:44
EriC^^i'd go with the recommended one, at least to try to resolve the monitor issue afaik20:45
oerheks'nvidia driver and nvidia driver server' where do you read that?20:45
EriC^^maybe the nvidia one is for server installs *shrug*20:45
EriC^^*nvidia server20:45
metbsdapt search nvidia-driver gives me that20:46
EriC^^oerheks: it's in the list here https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/Z2xjZjNKrd/20:46
oerheksoh, -server is a subset of the driver package without some possible vendor/cloud support. https://askubuntu.com/a/126751120:49
oerheksjust use the driver tool, not apt20:49
metbsdnow my 2nd monitor is gone20:50
metbsdinstalled driver20:50
metbsdi removed nouveu too20:50
metbsdas the wiki told me to20:50
oerheksreboot might do some good20:50
EriC^^+120:51
metbsddid20:51
EriC^^what does 'lshw -c video | nc termbin.com 9999' give as a link?20:52
metbsdi choose the middle option, prime20:53
metbsdsame thing happen20:53

metbsdand this is official nvidia-driver20:53
metbsd46020:53
metbsdnvidia on demand20:54
metbsdok nvidia-setting crashed20:55
metbsdjust sent the crash to ubuntu20:55
metbsdok tried 3 modes, intel: no external monitor at all21:01
metbsdprime: 2nd monitor laggy21:02
metbsdperformance: no more lag21:02
Foxfir3how do i run snap programs? they are not showing up in KDE21:02
metbsdbut laptop gets hot easily21:02
tomreynFoxfir3: assuming this is kubuntu, desktop specific support is available in #kubuntu21:03
Foxfir3tomreyn: its debian. but asked here since snap is a cannonical thing21:04
tomreynFoxfir3: there's #snapcraft, we don't spport debian nor snaps on debian here21:04
Foxfir3tomreyn: thanks :)21:04
sarnoldFoxfir3: if you haven't restarted since installing snap, try that21:05
metbsdi'm gonna try arch based manjaro21:18
metbsdsee if i get any luck21:18
metbsdit's just a windows replacement laptop21:19
metbsdnot for server task21:19
s_whoa, does ubuntu send search data to amazon?22:17
billybigriggeranyone here familiar with fiber channel?22:18
sarnolds_: a few years ago, the unity desktop did indeed have a pluggable search thing that could search amazon if you asked it to22:19
billybigriggeri know it's mostly used to connect to a SAN, but is there a way I can do direct from one machine to another? ie, i have 2x HP 8Gbps FC HBA's connected over mm om3 LC-LC both on port 022:19
billybigriggercan i do direct host to host connection over fiber channel?22:19
tagSomething seems to be swapping my escape and super keys and I'm having a hell of a time figuring out what --- it appears to happen at a regular interval22:21
s_sarnold: ahh, yes ok this is old news then. apparently maybe it was defaulted to yes at some point22:22
tagSorry, my *alt* and *super* keys22:22
tagit just started happening out of the blue today22:22
sarnolds_: yeah, if you hit meta+s it'd search EVERYTHING and meta+f would search files, meta+a would search applications, etc .. or something like that. I never used them because they weren't super-useful, I can't recall the key combos22:23
leftyfbbillybigrigger: you might be better off asking in #networking22:27
billybigriggerleftyfb i just did thanks :P22:27
billybigriggerthat channel is dead AF :P22:27
billybigriggerbut i threw it out there, thanks22:28
puzzle_55hi22:29
metbsdmanjaro has this problem too22:38
=== ravustaj1 is now known as ravustaja
harovali1hi, I'm trying to start a user program from systemd. What I did was: sudo systemctl --force edit vbox-conector.service,  and in the editor write what is described here https://tanzolab.it/systemd, changing the names to fit my "vbox-conector" service. Then did systemctl daemon-reload . But when tryin to do systemctl enable vbox-conector, or enable vbox-conector.service, it errors "Failed to enable unit: Unit file vbox-conect23:36
harovali1s not exist."  I wonder what I'm missing !   Nay help is really welcome23:36
oerheks vbox-conector.service or  vbox-connector.service ? typo23:38
harovali1oerheks: I hope it were just this type, but i'ts not since the typo is also in the sudo systemctl --force edit vbox-conector.service23:41
harovali1it errors with one n or 223:42
