[08:02] how to install intel drivers [09:45] Hi everyone, newbie here. I've justĀ  noticed that I'm missing "Software Updater", but I can't find the command to reinstall it, can anyone help me? Thanks a lot! [09:46] That's likely update-notifier. [09:46] Thank you Unit193! === jmcgnh is now known as jmcgnh_ === jmcgnh_ is now known as jmcgnh [12:16] how wo i get rid of tooltips on xfce panel [12:42] nomic, tooltips for what? [12:42] the panel [12:43] u hover over panel item .. u get this big box [12:43] telling you what it is [12:43] its riduclous [12:43] u can't get rid of them [19:08] * willem just trying out [21:04] OK [21:05] I need to get the computer back to default [21:08] I have lost complete control of it's functions. and was trying to transfer my new software shortcuts on the main page but failed. Xubuntu on a emachine is like now my least favorite computers. [21:12] c44: Uhm, what happened? [21:12] c44: Did you try creating a new user account? [21:12] user account? [21:13] To use the computer? [21:15] c44: If you want help, you need to explain a bit more what you did and what it is that does not work anymore [21:17] What happened was that I installed 2 new softwares Pivot and well was attempting for garage band but then I notice the screen froze which this tired old computer has a habit of doing. I wanted to check was I hacked or something because this pandemic proved people just have nothing better to do. So as I put an antivirus on the thing it just went to [21:17] hockey sticks. So I couldn't navigate my pages aka firefox with my mouse or the minimize function because it disappeared completely [21:18] Yes I was explaining sorry my typing skills is not quick honey [21:19] I suppose you restarted already [21:19] I have [21:19] you can pretty surely remove teh antivirus [21:19] did you try another user account? I.e., creating a new user account? [21:19] I did. [21:20] I didn't try to create another account [21:20] sorry I meant I removed the anti virus along with other stuff [21:20] I thought these pre-programs were probably the issue [21:22] hello [21:24] what do you mean with pre programs? [21:24] maybe try this first. Creating a new user account and logging in with that [21:25] The computer came with certain softwares and honestly it didn't give details what they were. [21:32] like dssim and zoom, The emachine doesn't even have a camera. and I have no idea what DSSIM is but when i log into this computer it calls itself Xubuntu which is confusing I thought like a Mac, Hp or even Acer the names on the devices themselves would be on the screen. So I deleted by accident files after I lost functions related to xubuntu because [21:32] these files aren't even named xubuntu and thankfully we're chatting here because I am pretty sure I butchered the name xubuntu [21:56] is there way to set proxy for chrome [21:58] only for google-chrome is ok [22:10] metbsd: I am not sure, but it says it uses the system settings, no? [22:10] then you can usually set that with environment variables. You'd have to edit the .desktop file [22:11] I just need to send this thing back to default. I'm not sure if chrome is helping or harming but I literally had to punch the keypad just to respond I'm not violent normally but this thing has issues beyong proxy which I have no clue what that is. Is that when I substitute firefox for chrome? Cause honestly I get big brother is watching our every [22:11] move but when I look up anything on chrome I recieve an email about it that's creepy. [22:13] where is .desktop? is it read by xfce? [22:14] c44: I suppose a reinstall would be the best option for you? [22:15] metbsd: Your own ones are in ~/.local/share/applications [22:15] in /usr/share/applications you find the normal ones [22:21] i found chrome.desktop [22:21] google-chhrome.desktop [22:21] what do i put there [22:22] metbsd: I can't tell you ot of my head. I just remember vaguely there is something like that [22:22] see e.g. https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-unix-set-proxy-environment-variable/ [22:22] and https://askubuntu.com/questions/144968/set-variable-in-desktop-file [22:23] or yeah, just use a script to set the environment variables and then start chrome from that script [22:23] did that. but chrome seem ignoring those
