charlesIf anyone has a second to take a look I'd really appreciate it. I've been trying to get this to work all day.20:21
charlesSorry if this is the wrong place to ask btw, just tried to follow the support links.20:23
lubot[telegram] <Leokolb> What version of Lubuntu? How old is the laptop? does it support efi? where did you download the ISO file? Is the install media good? (re @lubuntu_bot: (irc) <charles> Hello, I'm trying to install Lubuntu on an old laptop. I've tried three times but I keep on getting the same error)20:26
charlesthe second latest version, 20.04 I believe. The laptop is from about 2012 and it's a Gateway brand. As far as I am aware it supports EFI, I installed Ubuntu on it no problem. The install media was verified when I booted the computer. I downloaded the ISO from https://lubuntu.me/downloads/20:29
charlesFull disclosure I am very new to linux in general I learned about 1/2 of what I know today lol20:30
lubot[telegram] <Leokolb> Are you doing a full disk install i.e. erase disk? (re @lubuntu_bot: (irc) <charles> the second latest version, 20.04 I believe. charlesYes, I'm having the installer format the hard drive and create a new partition in replacement of the old one20:33
charlesI tried that 3 times and it was the same error every time, i really a not sure what is happening20:33
charlesI also tried manually installing grub to /dev/sda and /dev/sdb and that didn't work, so i tried it as sudo and it said it couldn't find  `/cow if that helps at all20:35
lubot[telegram] <Leokolb> You are selecting "erase disk" and not "replace a partition" at install -is that correct? (re @lubuntu_bot: (irc) <charles> Yes, I'm having the installer format the hard drive and create a new partition in replacement of the old one)20:38
charlesthe only options I had were dual boot, partition and manual partition20:40
charlesWould that be in manual?20:40
Aisonis /etc/sddm.conf ignored by lubuntu? (20.04 has sddm as login screen, right?)20:40
lubot[telegram] <Leokolb> Are you installing from USB disk? (re @lubuntu_bot: (irc) <charles> the only options I had were dual boot, partition and manual partition)20:42
charlesI'm not sure, I didn't have to log in to install. I'm currently installing from a USB disk and communicating using lubuntu live20:43
lubot[telegram] <Leokolb> I think you should check our manual _ https://manual.lubuntu.me/stable/1/1.3/installation.html (re @lubuntu_bot: (irc) <charles> I'm not sure, I didn't have to log in to install. I'm currently installing from a USB disk and communicating using lubuntu live)20:44
charlesalright, I'll give that a go then20:45
lubot[telegram] <Leokolb> @charles and retry the install - let us know if the problem is not solved20:45
