[06:42] Half a year ago, I was fed up with windows and decided to install Xubuntu. I first tried a Live system of Focal Fossa, but couldn't use my printer, a HP Officejet Pro X451dw. [06:42] I found out, that it worked well with Bionic Beaver, installed it and used it happily since then. [06:42] Yesterday I decided to upgrade to Focal Fossa, because the support for Bionic Beaver will be cancelled soon, hoping that the problem might have been solved in the meantime. [06:42] But unfortunately it was not. The system detects the printer, but I can't print and get the notification "printer not connected", which is not true. I disconnected and reconnected the USB cable to different USB slots, but the printer doesn't work anyway. [06:42] I removed the printer and reinstalled it in the settings utility, but that didn't work. Finally I ran troubleshooting and got the following protocol: [06:42]  [03/Mär/2021:08:17:11] io/hpmud/musb.c 427: Found interface conf=0, iface=0, altset=0, index=1 [06:45] haven't you posted the same yesterday and got help Ecki? [06:47] Yes, I did, but I can't find it. I thought, I was deleted, when I left this place. [06:49] since there's no one around (yet) with the knowledge to help, try asking on askubuntu [06:50] Thank you. Can't we find an easy solution. Maybe I could use Focal Fossa, but install an older version of the printing program. [06:52] i'm not familar with such issues so i can't be of any help, sorry. [06:53] Ok. I will stay here and hope, that someone comes by, who is an expert on the issue. [07:22] I have asked the question at askxubuntu. [07:24] Ecki, maybe try a different distro just as a test and only if printer is crucial. [07:34] Thank you. Printing can wait until after easter, but then it will be crucial again. What can I understand by a "distro"? [07:36] !distr [07:36] !distro [07:36] Other !Linux distributions besides !Ubuntu include: Debian, Mepis (using !APT); RedHat, Fedora, SUSE, Mandriva (using !RPM); Gentoo, Arch Linux, Manjaro, Slackware (using other packaging systems) [07:37] a distro is a different operating system that is based on Linux distro is short for distribution. [07:37] Well, I could reinstall Bionic Beaver. But it might be dangerous using it after the support has run out. [07:38] yes but i mean other distros that are supported but which also include the older printer drivers. [07:38] anyways gtg for awhile. [07:39] Thank you. I will wait for a couple of days and hope, that sombody can help me, before I install a different distirbutioen. [15:07] Ecki: From what information you gave so far, it could be LP bug 1871011. My mom was hit by it after upgrading from Bionic to Focal recently too - and we fixed it by the suggested workaround of removing the 'ippusbxd' package. [15:07] Launchpad bug 1871011 in ippusbxd (Ubuntu) "USB scanning broken on focal by ippusbxd (was: hpmud and ippusbxd conflict)" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1871011 [15:10] Btw, by the time I got online yesterday, you were already gone, so.. >_> [15:16] Thank you, now I have something to read and something to try. But I am not an expert and it sounds complicated. [15:18] Well, the specific command we've used is just "sudo apt purge ippusbxd" [15:18] And iirc we just rebooted afterwards to make the module go away. [15:33] So I just enter this in the terminal and restart the computer? [15:34] Yeah, just with your admin password in between. [15:36] Could also try something like "sudo rmmod ippusbxd" first rather than rebooting though. [15:38] Oh right, it's a service rather than just a module, and the suggested command would have been rather finicky to figure out properly.. [15:38] So yeah, just reboot. [15:39] I have tried it and got an output including "the following packages have been removed: ippusbxd [15:39] So I should have done it right, haven't I? [15:44] I am going to reboot. Many thanks  for your help. I might come back, if it doesn't help or new problems occur. [16:01] Hi, it's me again. I have tried to solve the problem, that my HP Officejet Pro X 451dw won't print under Focal Fossa, though it is detected and though it did under Bionic Beaver. [16:01] You suggested to remove the package ippusbxd to avoid a conflict about USB channels: [16:01] I ran 'sudo apt purge ippusbxd' and it produced an output containing "removed packages: ippusbxd' [16:01] I then ran 'sudo rmmod ippusbxd' and it producet an output, that said ippusbxd is not installed. [16:01] I rebooted the computer, but the problem continues. I can't print not even a testpage and get the notification: ' printer not connected', which still is as wrong as before. [16:40] Ecki: Yeah, the fact that you can re-add the printer to the system defeats that claim. Do you get any further error output than you already posted though? [16:47] Wait a moment, I will run troubleshooting and show you the protocol. [16:48] !paste [16:48] For posting multi-line texts into the channel, please use https://paste.ubuntu.com | To post !screenshots use https://imgur.com/ !pastebinit to paste directly from command line | Make sure you give us the URL for your paste - see also the channel topic. [17:03] It printed one testpage and no more and repeats: printer not connected [17:03] Usually I could enter troubleshooting after trying to print a testpage, but this dialog doesn't open now. [17:05] I have removed the printer again and reistalled it., hoping that I could enter troubleshooting this way, but I couldn't. [17:33] I have sent 2 protocols of troubleshooting via  https://paste.ubuntu.com . [17:49] I have sent a screenshot of my teminal after running 'sudo apt purge ippusbxd' and 'sudo rmmod ippusbxd' to imgur; https://imgur.com/a/2MVUSMD
