=== aimar is now known as Guest3010 [02:10] hello! [02:10] I'm having a question trying to install Lubuntu 20.04 on Virtual Machine... [02:10] how much space should i reserve for lubuntu itself? [02:13] i connected by heips now... [07:47] For completeness I answer my own question from yesterday regarding root folder access for a snap app (Freecad in my case). I needed to adjust the confinement level of the snap. Not sp linux-like, I deinstalled freecad and reinstalled it in devmode <$ sudo snap install freecad --devmode>. After that I could acces my NAS via /mnt. Have a great day! [08:59] thanks freiheitsgrad for providing answer === lubuntu is now known as Guest53461 [11:00] hello, how do I disable the userlist on the login screen? I have many users (>100) and a list with thumbnail of each user is bad. [11:05] what release? https://manual.lubuntu.me/stable/3/3.1/3.1.9/sddm_configuration.html is the lubuntu page for sddm configuration or the latest (20.10) release; if it doesn't do exactly what you want, using another DM maybe an option [11:05] Aison, ^ [11:06] 20.04 [11:06] sorry [11:06] I already create a /etc/sddm.conf, but this file seems to be ignored [11:11] guiverc, is lightdm still supported? [11:14] I believe xubuntu still use it; we don't test with it. I recall testing a couple but only recall xdm as a suggested fix for one issue (I forget specifics as to my reason - actually I must have tested lightdm; https://discourse.lubuntu.me/t/login-screen-flashes/1634/22 as I recommended it too) [11:18] Oh, I also had these screen login flashes, but I fixed this with changing some options for the intel graphics driver [11:19] sorry, the flashes had nothing to do with it; it was pasted as I suggested replacing sddm with xdm or lightdm due to a nvidia bug that was problematic with sddm [11:20] as I suggested lightdm; I would have tested it; being my point [11:33] it works with lightdm ;) [12:31] Hi, is there a way to install will less than 8gb of memory, around 3gb [12:31] ? [12:31] *with [12:32] [telegram] Disk space or RAM? [12:33] disk space [12:33] [telegram] I don't think it is posaible [12:34] ok, what is the reason it needs 8gb? [12:34] All the packages, that will be installed: kernel, desktop environment, services [12:35] so it's pretty much the same size as stock ubuntu then [12:35] was light meant to refer to the RAM usage [12:35] rather than disk space [12:35] Yes, Lubuntu is Ubuntu with a different desktop environment [12:36] Exactly, and it does not need 3D acceleration [12:36] ah ok [12:40] pretty sure 3 GB of RAM will do, recommended is 4 GB of RAM [12:45] 3gb  of disk space not RAM [13:11] Newb101: it's uncommon to be so limite din disk space, do you want to elaborate on your situation? [13:13] Newb101: default recommendation for disk space is 10 to 20 GB [13:14] 25 GB even at main Ubuntu [13:14] https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop [13:15] I've always gotten away with <10 GB so far, but 3 GB.. wasn't even possible 15 years ago.. [13:17] i think Newb101 is confusing things, first it's memory, then disk space, then RAm again and again disk space. I'm not sure anymore what to make of it [13:19] Simply put recommended is 20 to 25 GB disk space and 4GB of RAM. You can't get away with 8 or 3 GB of disk space or RAm these days. [13:20] *or less RAM these days [13:25] The 5.1 GB system plus 1.5 personal files I got right now would seem to disagree a little with you there.. >_> === Poster` is now known as Poster [15:45] [telegram] do you mean memory as RAM or memory as in disk storage space? Minimum you'll need for on disk storage space is 10GB for room to work for updates, etc. You can get by with 8 but you won't be able to do much in terms of extra packages or files. Minimum RAM you'll need is 1GB of RAM for Lubuntu 20.04 to behave 'semi-decently' - but don't push it too hard. 2-4GB of RAM is my recommended minimum range of RAM nowadays for any DE (re @lu [15:45] [telegram] just to clarify things :P [15:46] [telegram] Bare Minumum RAM* [15:46] [telegram] 16GB is as small as I'd recommend because that's what the RPi images require minimum for disk space to behave (and I'm working on them) (re @lubuntu_bot: (irc) 25 GB even at main Ubuntu) === nopf_ is now known as nopf === SeanO is now known as seannyob [22:08] [telegram] Hi [22:09] [telegram] how can i download itunes?
