[09:01] bah. they moved my wisdom tooth surgery tomorrow until 24th May... I had been planning my weeks to accomodate already. === popey1 is now known as popey [09:31] Hi guys! Hey, I was just installing an ubuntu VDI via qemu-kvm wiht the location=http://... to the ubuntu repo. Works fine, but they were saying that debian installer is deprecated?? [09:32] Littereally echoing when you install from there [11:29] Hi Laney, do you possibly have a minute to consider bug #1923187? [11:29] bug 1923187 in ibus-libpinyin (Ubuntu) "[FFe] Enable opencc support" [Wishlist,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1923187 [11:29] tkamppeter: f you could bug someone to also accept sane-backends into hirsute-proposed that would help. As later today is the MIR team meeting and we can (if it shows up) probably get it into the final state to be promoted then [11:50] GunnarHj: Feels late in the cycle, is it important enough to take on extra risk now? [11:52] Laney: Fair question. I have no other arguments than those I wrote, referring to Debian testing as the most important indication that it's reasonably safe. [11:54] Laney: But if you feel uncomfortable, it's fine with me to wait until next cycle. 21.04 isn't a LTS after all. [11:55] I'm imagining us getting a bug 6 hours before the release about Chinese input being broken [11:55] bug 6 in Launchpad itself ""next 10 entries" at bottom of page" [Medium,Invalid] https://launchpad.net/bugs/6 [11:55] heh thanks ubot5 [11:56] Laney: Nah, that won't happen. (If you would approve, I would test the basic Chinese input before uploading.) [12:07] GunnarHj: Really I miss a discussion of what value the change brings to be able to weigh it up against any risks [12:09] Laney: That's because I'm not able to describe the value. My own need to convert between simplified and traditional Chinese is ... limited. [12:10] :p [12:10] was it a request you saw someone making? [12:10] Laney: It started with Debian enabling the thing, and the principal ibus-libpinyin maintainer at Debian is Chinese speaking. So I trust him that it's useful. [12:13] Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm [12:34] Laney: I have a 'strategic' argument, sort of. Chinese users generally prefer Fcitx over IBus, while we are stuck with IBus due to GNOME. In that situation it's desirable to make the best of it and make the IBus tool we offer by default as full-featured as possible, so standard Ubuntu is considered a viable option among Chinese speaking users. [13:13] good morning desktopers [13:15] hey hellsworth [13:15] good day to you oSoMoN ! [13:27] hey Heather, how are you? [13:29] hey seb i'm great thanks! [13:31] Hey hellsworth! You fixed those LO icons sooner than I expected. Thanks! [13:33] hey GunnarHj glad I could help :) [13:35] oh nice.. I didn't know it made it into 7.1.2~rc2-0ubuntu2 :) [13:42] hellsworth: Yeah, that's what I meant. :) [13:43] i knew it had been included in the main hirsute branch but didn't know it had been released :) [13:44] oh yes i did.. sorry i was getting this mixed up with a snap icon problem.. yeah yay for the startcenter and math icons. [13:47] also because of this bug i learned about the ubuntu-devel-discuss list (and promptly signed up). looks like there's some good stuff there. [13:50] Hello desktoppers, any meeting today? [13:53] luna: no more IRC meetings, https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/release-tracking-bugs/21692 [13:55] Trevinho: ah i thinked there would be two more before they cancelled [14:04] luna, hey, that was announced in https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/announcing-the-ubuntu-desktop-team-indaba-ama-april-23-2021 but maybe we should have another post with the 'no IRC meeting anymore' title or something to make it more obvious, that one isn't really unless you read the content [14:04] jibel, do you still plan to re-do the photo and music slideshow screenshots for hirsute? [14:07] Trevinho: seb128: thanks, will visit the MRU meeting then that starts in some minutes in #ubuntu-meeting :) and reading up some on the discourse now [14:07] np! [14:08] the Discourse stopped loading however, but maybe thats just me [14:08] now its up again [14:11] seb128, yup, just ran out of time. [14:12] jibel, ack, I was just checking to make sure it's not something we forgot about [14:12] thx [14:12] yw [15:17] oSoMoN: hey, is https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-desktop-installer/issues/30 up for grabs? if so, feel free to assign it to me ;) [15:22] jpnurmi: in order for us to assign you to a bug we will need a comment from you on it [15:23] (just how GH works) [15:23] so just copy paste your message there essentially :) happy to assign to you [15:23] ok [15:24] jpnurmi, as marcus_tomlinson said, and it's all yours [15:25] cheers :) [15:32] seb128, thank you for syncing vala :) [15:34] seb128, due to this regression fix, I was looking at possible affected packages -- gnome-tetravex, gnome-2048 and gnome-klotski should get a no-change rebuild [16:10] Laney: Does "Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm" as regards ibus-libpinyin mean yes or no? ;) [16:21] GunnarHj: Neither, but I'm leaning towards not. If it was two weeks ago it might be different... [16:22] Unless you feel up to rustling some Chinese input users and getting some explicit testing?! [16:26] Laney: The latter would be too much work. I understand. The security review of the marisa MIR was completed last Friday, and I filed the FFe the same day. But yes, it's late. [16:27] * Laney nods [16:27] Get it prepped for 10 days time :> [16:31] Laney: Not sure what you mean by that. [16:31] ? [16:32] It wasn't meant to be obscure, that's when the new release starts [16:32] Laney: Ah, ok. [17:29] please retry https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/a/automake-1.16/hirsute/amd64 for vala/0.48.17-1 [17:49] oSoMoN, ^ :) [18:11] ricotz, thanks, I rebuilt those now [18:12] ricotz, oSoMoN, I retried the autopkgtest also [18:14] seb128, thanks [21:47] mutter ubuntu/master 8d4c9ff Daniel van Vugt debian/patches/ series 61-mutter.rules-Enable-KMS-modifiers-for-Raspberry-P.patch * Add 61-mutter.rules-Enable-KMS-modifiers-for-Raspberry-P.patch * https://deb.li/3oHDz [21:47] mutter ubuntu/master Marco Trevisan * [merge] merge request !72: Add 61-mutter.rules-Enable-KMS-modifiers-for-Raspberry-P.patch * https://deb.li/lDai
