[21:26] hello, is there a way to format a pendrive in ubuntu studio? I can't seem to find that option [21:27] panparadox: https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/create-a-usb-stick-on-ubuntu#1-overview [21:28] You can find Startup Disk Creator in Discover on 20.10+, or Software on 20.04. [21:29] panparadox[m]: The partition manger seems to format sticks just fine [21:29] I misunderstood the question. facepalm [21:29] * Eickmeyer[m] facepalms [21:30] partition manager or gparted do the trick to just format. [21:30] * OvenWerks notes that there are lots of command line tools as well :) [21:32] there is the whole group of /sbin/mk*fs* tools [21:34] as well as *fdisk [21:41] I downloaded a partition manager from Snap Shop and I can't really find an option to format the pendrive [21:42] and I'm quite new to linux, I don't know how to download stuff through Terminal [21:46] panparadox[m]: a pen drive looks like any other harddrive to linux [21:46] so if you plug a pen drive in and type dmesg in a terminal you should see what the system thinks it is. [21:47] so: 282800.089607] usb 1-1.3: New USB device strings [21:48] followed by lots of other lines... at the bottom: sd 8:0:0:0: [sdd] Attached SCSI removable disk [21:48] this means my pin drive is /dev/sdd [21:48] the line just above that on my case shows: sdd: sdd1 sdd2 sdd3 sdd4 [21:51] which says there is 4 partitions on this one. you would want to remove all those. Mine has them because I have used dd to copy ISO images of various sizes to the stick and linux sees the left overs as another partition. I go through and remove them all once in a while
