sarnoldif chrome, then probably best ot report it directly to google01:11
sarnoldif chromium-browser, then ubuntu-bug chromium   or ubuntu-bug chromium-browser  ought to get the bug report started01:11

kristian_on_linufinally put 20.04 on my trusty Thinkpad T520, but the wifi has issues ... I can see the network, but the pw is not recognized. I tried updating the kernel, but no luck08:32

tomreyndo you have other means to bring the 20.04 online? such as an ethernet connection, an usb to ethernet dongle, an usb to wireless dongle, a smartphone with a usb connection you can tether through?10:00

tomreyn(but then your log says that authentication did succeed)10:50
jeremy31after the power setting change, it falls apart10:51
tomreynyes, thats right, primary suspect10:51
tomreynbut wifi.powersave = 2 means off10:51
jeremy31That just keeps Network Manager from enabling it10:52
tomreynit does lower transmit signal strength / TX power to 2310:53
tomreynthe wireless access point chipset is a zyxel10:54

FrancimanHello fellow private software friends11:22
FrancimanI found a bug in the ath10k drivers11:22
Francimando you think I should file the issue to ubuntu too?11:22
Francimanor just the kernel driver mailing list11:22
jeremy31kristian-20-04: you will have to unload and load the driver to get it to change11:23
jeremy31Franciman: If you are using the newest upstream kernel the upstream kernel devs might ignore it11:23
jeremy31are/arent't11:24
Francimanmakes much sense, drat11:24
jeremy31Franciman: If you are using Ubuntu kernel, file with Ubuntu, they will likely ask that you try the newest mainline kernel to see if it still exists11:25
FrancimanI tried with 5.1111:26
Francimanand the bug exists, though11:26
Francimanbut I saw that in 5.12-rc9 there is a change in the driver11:26
Francimanmaybe they fixed it, I should give it a try11:26
Francimanalso jeremy31 you can't figure out what is the change in the drivers that causes the bug11:26
Francimanbasically they enlarged a data structure representing msdu stuff11:26
FrancimanI think that some actor in the firmware or the driver is misreading or miswriting to this structure11:27
Francimanbecause now it is enlarged11:27
jeremy31Franciman: is it still possible to use older firmware?11:27
Francimannope11:27
Francimanthey still fail11:27
Francimanto make it work, you have to put that data structure at its old status11:28
Francimani.e. pre this commit:11:28
Francimanhttp://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/ath10k/2017-December/010589.html11:28
Francimanif you remove those extra fields, everything works like charm11:28
Francimanjeremy31, you know what is perplexing?11:29
Francimanthat I can't fully explain why the wifi card hangs11:29
Francimanbut it only happens when I am connected to the same wifi network as my dad's huawei smartphone11:29
jeremy31Franciman: wifi power management disabled?11:29
Francimanyup11:29
jeremy31No TKIP encryption on the router?11:30
atalI have created a squashfs filesystem and dd it in /dev/sdb3 . Can I set label on the partition?11:30
Francimannone11:30
FrancimanI use wpa11:31
jeremy31Seem that the commit should only affect WCN3990's and QCA99x0 models11:31
Francimanbut it changes the memory layout11:31
Francimanof the whole structure11:31
Francimanbecause the added wcn fields in the union11:32
Francimanare bigger!11:32
Francimanalso jeremy31 those fields are _unused_ in the driver11:32
Francimanthey are there just to match the right memory layout11:32
Francimanthe strange thing is that I don't always get failure11:32
Francimanbut only when my dad's huawei smartphone is connected11:32
Francimanso I guess there must be some strange packet sent over the network11:33
jeremy31I had a wifi in this laptop that used ath10k without issues until I swapped it out and broke off antenna connectord11:33
dev4449Hi. Good day. I'm trying to confirm that if the machine I have in hand meets the minimum sys requirements of ubuntu. the machine: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-IdeaPad-300-15IBR-Notebook-Review.165793.0.html . According to this page: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SystemRequirements the only requirement I'm unable to confirm(11:42
dev4449researched but no luck) is the line that says "3D Acceleration Capable Videocard with at least 256 MB". I have disabled the  discrete(nvidia) video card in bios, since I only want to use this laptop for simple taks such as web surfing, so the only graphicsavailable is intel integrated graphics.11:42
dev4449I can't confirm if this intel integrated graphics meets the requirement "3d acceleration capable videocard with at least 256 mb".11:44
jeremy31dev4449: Write the ISO to a USB and try Ubuntu11:45

nunyahow do i safely purge unused kernels. I like linux-image-5.4.0-72-lowlatency     5.4.0-72.80 but want to get rid of the rest if I don't need them. How do I know if I need the others? dpkg -l | tail -n +6 | grep -E 'linux-image-[0-9]+' results https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/xRrF3c7GsT/14:40
tomreynrc = removed, configuration remaining.14:42
=== kyonsalt2 is now known as kyonsalt
remlinenunya: "apt autoremove" will remove unused kernels. For purging, I like to use "aptitude", where you can search for "~c" to see removed-but-configured packages.14:44
remlinenunya: By default, Ubuntu will mark the current kernel and the previous kernel as used. Older ones can be removed if you like.14:45
nunyaremline: Does that remove older kernels or unused? My latest is 5.8.0-50-generic but I want to keep using linux-image-5.4.0-72-lowlatency. It works better than the latest generic14:47
tsujpI've got an ubuntu machine I've configured a static IP for so now it has two IPs, both ip4 addresses, how can I force it to only use a specific one when proxying SSH commands? It's using it's "default" one14:48
tsujpEither that or I disable the ip4 I don't want it using14:48
leftyfbtsujp: what version of ubuntu and how did you configure the static ip exactly?14:48
tsujp20.0414:49
tsujpI created a yaml file at /etc/netplan/60-floating-ip.yaml14:49
leftyfbtsujp: is this running a desktop environment?14:49
tsujpContents are: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/HqTBvRrspJ/14:50
tsujpit is no leftyfb14:50
tsujpnot*14:50
leftyfbtsujp: ok, and what about the .yaml file that was already in /etc/netplan/?14:50
tsujpleftyfb that one only has ip6 stuff in it14:51
remlinenunya: If you run "apt autoremove", it will tell you what it is going to remove. It will ask you to confirm before proceeding. You can mark packages as "manually installed" to prevent autoremove from removing them.14:51
leftyfbtsujp: can you pastebin it? Did you modify it at all?14:51
nunyaremline: Ok thanks, was worried it would remove the one I didn't wany to remove14:52
tsujpleftyfb https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/WfMRfqbksx/14:52
leftyfbtsujp: both configs are trying to manage eth0. The first config has dhcp enabled on it14:53
tsujpcan I force `ssh` to identify as a certain IP then?14:55
nunyaremline: sudo apt autoremove I think was only going to remove packages. Is that the right command?14:55
tsujpit's using the dhcp ip instead of the static ip14:55
tsujpI want it to use the static ip only14:55
leftyfbtsujp: the solution is to only use a single config file to manage eth014:56
remlinenunya: Correct, autoremove will only remove packages. To purge packages, you can use a different tool. (I think purging packages is not particularly useful... but I like to use aptitude to purge them)14:57
leftyfbtsujp: why do you need a static ipv4 and ipv6? Are you actually using ipv6 for anything?14:58
tsujpleftyfb what if I did `dhcp4: false` in the second file?14:58
tsujpthis is a jumpbox and it's using its dynamic IP instead of the static one so ufw on the target machine deny it (wrong ip)14:58
tsujpmight just do a vnet or something instead14:59
leftyfbtsujp: why do you need a static ipv4 and ipv6? Are you actually using ipv6 for anything?14:59
tsujpim not using ip6 at all14:59
nunyaremline: You said to use apt autoremove to remove kernels. I typed that into console actually had to add sudo in front of apt autoremove It listed some packages but not kernels.15:00
leftyfbtsujp: ok, then step #1: sudo apt remove --purge cloud-init     step #2  make only 1 network config file with the following contents. Delete all other files in /etc/netplan   https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/D2qqfszrht/15:00
remlinenunya: Perhaps you only have two kernels installed?15:02
tsujpthat borked the networking on the machine leftyfb its probably getting the gateway etc from dhcpcd and stuff too?15:05
tsujpfor ip4 that is15:05
leftyfbtsujp: try setting the gateway. It's assuming the gateway ip, maybe you've got it different15:06
leftyfbtsujp: https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/gRTMNKdpzb/15:06
leftyfbtsujp: https://netplan.io/examples/#using-dhcp-and-static-addressing15:07
nunyaremline: You obviously didn't read the pastebin link in my question15:11
remlinenunya: removing and purging are two different things. I would recommend using autoremove as often as needed, but purging is generally not useful. If you do want to purge, I would recommend aptitude.15:13
remlinenunya: And if there are kernels that are marked as manually installed, autoremove will not remove them. You can either remove them manually, or mark them as automatically installed.15:14
nunyaremline: Ok what's the differnce between removing and purging?15:15
leftyfbI would not recommend aptitude. It has caused problems in the past.15:16
leftyfbnunya: https://phoenixnap.com/kb/ubuntu-remove-old-kernels15:16
remlinenunya: nunya: Per "man apt", Removing a package removes all packaged data, but leaves usually small (modified) user configuration files behind, in case the remove was an accident. On the other hand you can get rid of these leftovers by calling purge even on already removed packages.15:18
leftyfbnunya: If you install linux-image-lowlatency-hwe-18.04 and remove everything else, you should be good moving forward. autoremove should remove old kernels just fine after that15:18
tsujpcheers leftyfb15:18
remlineleftyfb: Avoiding tools that have "caused problems in the past" would leave us with precious little remaining. :)15:19
leftyfbremline: apt will work just fine in this case and not cause more problems15:20
remlineleftyfb: Indeed, there is something to be said for picking the correct level of abstraction. I find aptitude useful for browsing package states.15:23

ExcessiveAggroMorning!  Playing around with BTRFS and it looks like I can set up a btrfs partition directly on a device without an existing partition.  Is that a bad idea? OR is that best practice?17:47
ExcessiveAggrobasically.... sudo mkfs.btrfs /dev/sdb17:47
kmartokay, fair enough - so i had 3 nvme's installed on my PC with ASUS UEFI motherboard, boot drive was nvme0 with ubuntu, nvme1 and nvme2 were AMD-RAID with windows, so far so good. now i nstalled 3 additional nvme drives, and the ubuntu nvme0 is now nvme1, and new drive is nvme0. Now the system does not boot, if in the boot menu (f8) i select windows, it boots fine, ubuntu livecd also sees the nvme's just fine. When i click ubuntu, it goes straight to UEFI17:48
kmartbios. I checked the grub.cfg and it references the boot part only by UUID, so i have no idea whats wrong17:48
EriC^^kmart: can you boot a live usb to troubleshoot?18:04

EriC^^kmart: it's not remote access, it just pastes the output to termbin.com, also nc is netcate, which is default on any ubuntu18:29
leftyfbkmart: nothing EriC^^ typed gives access to your machine. It pastes the output to the termbin.com pastebin service so we can read the output without you having to type it out18:29

kmartthe EFI part was mounted under x18:39
EriC^^ok18:39
EriC^^kmart: nothing is technically wrong with it, we could try to reinstall grub to the efi/uefi list, which might work, but likely i think you have to 'allow' ubuntu via your uefi/bios or maybe disable secureboot18:41
EriC^^kmart: the uefi entry points to the proper PARTUUID of the efi, and the file exists as specified in the entry, so it should load grub no matter what, the grub.cfg there is just for it to find the actual menu in /boot/grub/grub.cfg, so the fact it's not giving grub at all suggests the uefi just isnt wanting to load it or something18:42
EriC^^do you want to try reinstalling grub? it just might work18:44
EriC^^kmart: did you change at all how/where the ubuntu nvme was connected?18:45
kmartno, the nvme iwht ubuntu is connected where it was18:54
kmartbut secure boot is enabled18:55
kmartEriC^^: livecd boots just fine though so i dont think its a problem18:56
kmartso how to reinstall grub ?18:57
EriC^^kmart: sometimes uefi can be tricky on some devices after the installation, on acer's you have to enable the bios admin password and then 'trust' the ubuntu efi file, etc every manufacturer is different18:59
EriC^^kmart: type 'sudo umount /mnt/x'18:59
EriC^^kmart: did you recently enable secureboot? that could be it19:00
kmartno19:00
kmartit was always like that19:00

blahboybazAn article I saw says 20.04 uses Mesa 20.0.2, X.Org Server 1.20.7, and GNOME 3.36. Can anyone confirm if that is correct?19:19

Maikkxsl: Ubuntu Desktop?19:47
Maikkxsl: for Ubuntu Desktop you need at least a Pi 4 with 4GB or 8GB to even run smoothly19:48
