scan_lowly | hi everyone! Having some trouble moving (or deleting and creating - files are actually not important) my /home partition to a new drive and wondering if anyone could help? | 19:04 |

scan_lowly | wait.. | 19:06 |
scan_lowly | I think I figured it out??? | 19:06 |
OvenWerks | scan_lowly: you really need to be logged out for that... but create the new directory with wrong name... change the name of current home to /home/${USER}.back or some such. change the name of the new directory to /home/${USER}. | 19:45 |
OvenWerks | scan_lowly: note that if you are creating a new /home on the differnet drive then it is /home you have to change to /oldhome before creating an empty /home to mount to. you can not delete a directory that has anything using that as PWD so once you have done the renaming and everything is ready to go, reboot and when it comes up the new /home should just be there and the home you log into should be | 19:51 |
OvenWerks | in that directory and you can then transfer files from the old home and/or delete it. It is best to do this whole thing booted as safe mode or logged in via ctl-alt-F2 so that your session is not using the old home as PWD | 19:51 |
