=== WrathOfA1hilles is now known as WrathOfAchilles [04:05] Eickmeyer[m]: I think both problems are fixed [04:08] Eickmeyer[m]: hard for me to test right [06:51] Check the web page too. [07:10] OvenWerks: now that pipewire is out with fedora, are you excited about it? Will switching to pipewire by default create more work for little advantage Ubuntu Studio and/or Studio Controls? Or is it going to make things much easier to handle? [13:35] MauroGaspari[m]: Pipewire isn't pro-audio ready. It needs freewheel support still, otherwise applications like Ardour can't export at faster-than-realtime. [13:45] Ohhh this is very interesting to hear. I thought most tech news were singing the praise of pipewire, that promised to unify normal and pro audio and compatibity with Jack. [13:45] Non that fast, I guess 😅 [13:45] * Not that fast, I guess 😅 [13:46] To be fair, they're working on it, but right now, Fedora considers PW good enough for desktop use. I'm sure we'll start to work directly with the Ubuntu Desktop team when they decide they want to switch to PW. [13:51] So basically when the time comes, we will still need Studio Installer, we will still need a low latency kernel, carla, autojack. So for the end user, the tools they use and see, not much will change. Right? [14:40] MauroGaspari[m]: There are some more showstoppers in PW. It only works with the ALSA back end, no net, no ffado. [14:42] PW is supposed to connect to a running or freshly started jack, but only does so if the jack started already asked for an ALSA device... this does not help one use jack to load these back ends [14:42] so far there does not appear to be any way to manually start a PW-jack bridge. [14:43] 😵 [14:43] MauroGaspari[m]: a low latency kernel will always be needed for low latency audio. perhaps more in the future not less [14:44] autojack will have to change a lot to handle PW but most of that will not be visible to the average user. [14:46] MauroGaspari[m]: I think PW is a step in the right direction and if it gets where it wants to go will be a good thing [14:46] I see. Thanks OvenWerks . [14:47] OvenWerks: omg i was about to ask you exactly what you wrote. would you please turn off your mind reading device? thanks! 😁 [14:57] * OvenWerks is glad RH is around as a bug fix platform [14:59] everyone else can watch as they fight with it... [22:53] Eickmeyer[kde]: has my changes helped? === tomreyn_ is now known as tomreyn [23:44] OvenWerks: I haven't been able to test yet.
