floogyIs latest mysql-server for bionic 18.04.4 version 5.7.33?00:02
floogybecause it got 18.04.1 in it's name: https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=bionic&section=all&arch=any&keywords=mysql&searchon=names00:02
dontlookso I have 2 admins on a system, and one regular user.   When I login as the regular user and try to add a new wifi network - it asks for the password for the 1st user created(an admin) but there is no way to select the other admin for the authorization action00:02
dontlookany idea how to make the 2nd admin an option?00:02
Bashing-om!info mysql-server bionic | floogy00:04
floogyI need to know the version number for mysql_upgrade_info00:04
ubottufloogy: mysql-server (source: mysql-5.7): MySQL database server (metapackage depending on the latest version). In component main, is optional. Version 5.7.33-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 (bionic), package size 9 kB, installed size 108 kB00:04

floogyleftyfb, /usr/sbin/mysqld-akonadi aborts with [ERROR] [MY-010020] [Server] Data Dictionary initialization failed.00:52
floogyI think it's due to the failed upgrade process for that 5.7.33 data directory, though I'm not sure.00:53

floogyIt's running mysql-8.000:53

floogyakonadi starts the server as a separate process to the systemwide mysql-8.0 within a different data directory00:55
floogyyes it is.00:55
floogyhttps://termbin.com/j6gq00:56
floogyakonadi-backend-mysql: /usr/sbin/mysqld-akonadi00:57
leftyfbfloogy: sorry, I'm not familiar with mysqld-akonadi or why you need it00:57
floogyI need it for kmail and kontact etc.00:57
floogyI already tried ubuntuusers.de and kde.de or #kubuntu etc.00:58
floogyI guess I have to setup a docker mysql 5.7 to get a mysqldump out of that data-directory, to import it later. I don't know.00:59
floogyThe migration didn't succeed from bionic to focal.00:59
floogyunfortunately I didn't create a mysqldump beforehand.01:00
floogyThe other databases migrated well.01:00

Hestonhello, I'm running an ubuntu 21.04 live usb and everytime I turn off my monitor, or if it goes to sleep, I can't bring back my display. The monitor says there's no signal...how does this make any sense?05:19
HestonI could understand something messing up with Xorg when the display goes to sleep but if I power cycle my monitor I instantly lose a video signal05:20
DumbLDoorHeston - it happens to me too, sometimes. I have a viewsonic lcd05:25

DumbLDoorI found this, if it helps -  https://askubuntu.com/questions/899624/ubuntu-loads-and-then-monitor-loses-signal05:43

aw1hi all! I am trying to create a bootable ubuntu usb from a non-ubuntu linux. I tried the following "sudo dd if=path/to/ubuntu/iso of=/dev/sdc" but the usb is not able to boot the laptop. Most tutorials are advising to use the "Startup Disk Creator" but I don't have a unbuntu box.14:52
EriC^aw1: dd is pretty much the best method, as long as it wrote everything, did you run "sync" after dd to be sure it copied it all?14:53

EriC^aw1: also, might as well run a checksum on the iso so you know it's 100%14:54

blb4393hello, i'm installing ubuntu on a computer with win10. Is that correct that the device for the boot loader installation should be existing 100M efi partiotion with Windows Boot Manager?16:16
tomreynjohn_rambo: https://blog.netlab.360.com/stealth_rotajakiro_backdoor_en/ discusses how to detect and remove it. But the approach of reading on a specific malware, then trying to check whether your system is infected by this specific malware, seems pretty wrong to me. If yu are that worried, you should not focus on specific threats but use ossec or the like. but this is really a massive effort for - unlike you have compelling reasons to expect to16:18
tomreynbe individually targeted - no gain.16:18
tomreynblb4393: if you're dual booting using EFI, yes16:19
tomreynblb4393: the efi system partition is meant to be the one and only partition containing all the boot loaders.16:20
blb4393tomreyn: ok, thanks. I'm always unsure if I do those partitioning steps correctly. One mistake and game over, ha16:22
tomreynalso consider using virtualization for one of those systems instead of doing multi-boot, though. if your hardware can handle it, this is a much better approach in my opinion16:22
blb4393no, i want to keep existing win10. That installation isn't for me16:23
blb4393i also want to keep existing home partition I have on an ssd. If I select that partition as /home but would not select format, will the content of it be kept? I just dont' want to figure out later that it won't be kept16:31
tomreynThat's what I'd expect to happen. But surely no OS installation should be done without having complete and current backups.16:32
tomreynI'd also prefer to just copy data over to the new /home path post installation16:33

trohrtHey guys19:47
trohrtI joined my ubuntu 20.04 host to microsoft AD domain19:47
trohrtwith sssd19:47
trohrtDoes anybody know how i can mount a domain network share using domain permissions (and actually have ubuntu inherit the domain permissions as if i were on file server?)19:48
tatertotsyou can supply the proper credentials including domain with the mount options/arguments19:53
trohrtI have done this already19:53
trohrtThe FS is mounted as root19:54
trohrtand none of the permissions i have set server-side are applied to files, it is just root:root with default mask19:54
tatertotsroot has permission to mount things...so that is expected...your windows admin account does NOT19:54
trohrtI understand this19:56
trohrtThe share is hosted on another Ubuntu 20.04 server with smbd19:56
tatertotsyou'll have to work within it...and it may not be a perfect fit for your environment and work flows19:56
trohrtThis server is a domain member, and I am able to r+w from the share from other domain members with the permissions when mounting19:57
trohrtWhen I mount with ubuntu file browser, i don't have the issues i'm having when mounting manually19:57

trohrtThe domain is hosted with Microsoft ADDS20:02
trohrtIt is a mixed domain.20:02
trohrtThe network share is hosted from ubuntu20:02

sla3kFolks, just installed Ubuntu 20 LTS server version on a test VM and after a few minutes, SSH connection shows 'broken pipe' and when I try to reconnect to the server again, I get Connection refused until I reboot the VM..is this know?22:46
sla3ks/know/known22:46
rfmsla3k, well, there are tens of thousands of 20.04 server installs where it doesn't happen, so it must be something peculiar to your install..22:59
leftyfbsla3k: which hypervisor are you using?22:59
leftyfbsla3k: also, to be clear, you're running Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. There is no "20"23:00
sla3kProxmox, I changed SSH port, so right now changing it back to 22 to see if it makes any difference23:00
sla3kleftyfb: Yes, 20.04 LTS23:00
leftyfbsla3k: the port isn't going to make a difference23:00
rfmsla3k, first thing I'd do is check if sshd is crashing.  You'd need to log in to the console (however you do that with proxmox) and check "systemctl status sshd.service"23:01
sla3kTrue, its the same23:01
leftyfbsla3k: I'm not familiar with proxmox. Is is based on some other hypervisor technology?23:01

sla3krfm: funny thing is that 'sshd' is running while all this happens.23:01

leftyfbmetbsd: depends on your needs23:02

leftyfbsla3k: next time this happens, see if you can ping the guest. See if the guest OS (out of band) has an ip and can ping out (host or gateway if bridged)23:03
leftyfbmetbsd: wayland and xorg have nothing to do with how the GUI looks23:03
leftyfbmetbsd: try ubuntu 20.04 or 21.04. You will be able to choose between them. Decide for yourself23:04
sla3kYes, guest can ping out to google, guest is ping'able (if that's a word) from other hosts23:04
metbsdi need a good windows system that's good.23:04
metbsdwhat's their difference23:04
leftyfbmetbsd: this is a support channel. Feel free to ask software opinions in #ubuntu-offtopic23:05
metbsdwhich is better to use23:05
metbsdwayland on ubuntu is offtopic?23:05
leftyfbsla3k: are you experiencing the issue right now? The guest pings in both directions yet no ssh?23:05
sla3kYes23:05
leftyfbmetbsd: software opinions are offtopic23:05
leftyfbsla3k: ok, on the guest, run: sudo lsof -i :2223:06
leftyfbmetbsd: https://itsfoss.com/best-linux-desktop-environments/23:06
sla3kleftyfb: sshd running and listening on 2223:07
leftyfbsla3k: ok, and you can't currently ssh to it from the host or other devices on the same network?23:07
metbsdi'm not asking desktop environment. I'm asking windows systems. X11, wayland, you know?23:07
leftyfbmetbsd: you do realize that those do not have anything to do with how your desktop looks or feels right?23:08
sla3kyes, tried windows, ubuntu 16 and 18..no SSH and it says connection refused as opposed to connection timed out or something23:08
leftyfbsla3k: is this guest on a bridged network or NAT?23:08
sla3kBridged, all my VM's (around 9) are on bridged23:09
leftyfbmetbsd: https://www.secjuice.com/wayland-vs-xorg/23:09
sla3kHmm... I did set the static IP when installing the system..should I switch to DHCP and see what happens23:09
leftyfbsla3k: ok, simple test. start a ping to the guest from some other device on same network. Then power the guest off23:09
leftyfbsla3k: if you'd like help, please follow along with troubleshooting23:10
metbsdi don't see what those design flaws mean to us users.23:11
FreeBDSMis it enough to install zfs-fuse to be able to mount zfs-partitioned disk in ubuntu (18.04)?23:11
sla3kleftyfb: did that..VM came back in about 5 seconds (reboot)23:12
leftyfbsla3k: I didn't say reboot. I said power it off23:12
sla3koh okay, read it in a hurry23:12
sla3kon it23:12
leftyfbsla3k: keep the ping going23:13
sla3khalt'ed, ping stopped getting replies23:13
leftyfbsla3k: ok, power back on. That is a pretty common issue that happens more often then you would think23:13
leftyfbsla3k: when it's back up run this on the guest:  journalctl -fu ssh   # and try to ssh in23:14
sla3kReally? wrong IP address configured?23:14
sla3kOkay23:14
sla3kjournalctl running23:15
leftyfbsla3k: yes, trying to ssh to the wrong ip happens quite often23:15
sla3kleftyfb: SSH working again..but not sure for how long23:15
sla3kI'll let journalctl running23:15
FreeBDSMis it enough to install zfs-fuse to be able to mount zfs-partitioned disk in ubuntu (18.04)?23:42
FreeBDSMis there a difference between OpenZFS and ZFS?23:43
leftyfbFreeBDSM: have you tried to mount a zfs filesystem and got an error?23:45
FreeBDSMleftyfb: I googled how to do that and internets tell me to uze zpool to import first and I simply don't have such a command23:46
leftyfbFreeBDSM: zfsutils-linux give you zpool23:46
