MariaDiaz91I tried to upgrade from 20.10 to 21.04. Received some kind of an error while upgrading, I don't know what it is, What should I do? Here is the output: paste.ubuntu.com/p/9Svgc2hQxS20:32
MariaDiaz91And... there is /var/crash/postfix.0.crash : paste.ubuntu.com/p/QSzBt24k3720:32
MariaDiaz91oh... the links...20:33

diogenes_MariaDiaz91, so far upgrading is not even recommended.20:50
MariaDiaz100diogenes_, thanks for the answer, I've read it on irclogs after disconnecting :321:42
krytenThat's not true anymore for a few days now though.21:43
MariaDiaz100Anyway, the same bugs appear.21:44
tomreyn newaliases: warning: valid_hostname: misplaced delimiter: xubuntu..21:45
tomreyn newaliases: fatal: file /etc/postfix/main.cf: parameter myhostname: bad parameter value: xubuntu..21:45
tomreynMariaDiaz100: ^ from your first paste, lines 4320, 432121:45
tomreynthe hostname should not end with a dot21:45
MariaDiaz100It never did. The hostname is just xubuntu, without a dot.21:46
tomreynbut apparently the "myhostname" parameter in the postfix configuration file does.21:47
tomreyns/parameter/option/21:47
MariaDiaz100Did you mean to say there was a bug in the postfix configuration file or I didn't understand you?21:49
tomreynyes, that's what i'm saying21:49
tomreynin file /etc/postfix/main.cf you have a line saying "myhostname = xubuntu." or similar21:50
tomreynif it's not in there it may also be in /etc/postfix/conf.d/myhostname or similar21:51
MariaDiaz100oh, now I'm trying to figure out: was that me who did this bug or the developers? Sorry, insomnias21:53
tomreyni assume you entered this when you first configured postfix through those "blue screens"21:54
tomreynbut that's just a guess21:54
MariaDiaz100I surely didn't do anything but entered 'sudo do-release-upgrade' and just waited21:55
tomreynoh this will have happened before the release upgrade, maybe long before that21:55
tomreynyou're aware this asus eeepc has only 1 GB of RAM installed?21:57
MariaDiaz100of course, I tried to study what's inside my netbook, but it didn't open properly, I could see only a part of the hardware. So I just gave up.21:58
tomreynif i recall correctly, the ram is soldered onyto the mainboard, not replaceable, not upgradeable, anyways.21:59
MariaDiaz100hmm, then... that's strange because I have some kind of a... um... section on the bottom of the netbook. And that is the place where the RAM is. It's interesting.22:00
MariaDiaz100if it is not replaceable, why is there a section? haha22:01
tomreynMariaDiaz100: hmm, you're right, i'm misremembering, sorry22:02
tomreyn2 GB seems to be the maximim22:03
MariaDiaz100yeah, exactly22:03
tomreynif you need to keep working with this laptop, i would very muchr ecommend that upgrade22:04
tomreynmight also want to replace the hdd by an ssd, though that's more difficult assembling-wise22:05
MariaDiaz100I'm still too afraid to replace anything myself. What if I could break something. It's the only computer I have. It's easier to buy a used PC for $10 and do whatever comes in my head than to do described above.22:08
MariaDiaz100Did you mean the bug could appear because of the small RAM which could bring errors to the upgrade process?22:08
tomreynno. this is unrelated. the release upgrade failed due to the invalid postfix configuration i told you about.22:08
MariaDiaz100I still wonder how it remains invalid while I do no wrong things.22:09
tomreyni could only speculate on this, which i did already.22:10
MariaDiaz100I tried several times. I install 20.04 mini.iso, write 'xubuntu' as a hostname, and it is successfully upgraded to 20.10. But it was never successfull to upgrade to 21.04, even when I, for a mistake, upgraded to the developers-version22:11
tomreynyou could just install 21.04 directly then22:12
tomreynor uninstallpostfix before you start the release upgrade22:13
tomreyn(and reinstall it later if needed)22:13
MariaDiaz100yeah... I'll try that. I suppose Xubuntu Core is not worse than mini.iso22:13
MariaDiaz100thanks for the support, it's absolutely priceless22:14
tomreynyou're welcome, Maria, good luck.22:15
tomreynMariaDiaz100: something i didn't mention, is that, after editing the postfix configuration file, you can just resume the upgrade by using    sudo apt update && sudo apt install -f && sudo apt upgrade && sudo apt full-upgrade22:27
