furycd001HI Guys.. There's an update for my bios & I'm currently trying to install it. I've downloaded the .iso & followed a tutorial to extract the .img & copy it to a usb using dd. Everything goes fine in the terminal with no errors or anything appearing. The usb automounts & I can see that files have been copied over & that it's name has changed. The problem is that whenever I reboot & select the usb from the boot menu, it's n06:28
furycd001Anyone any ideas :?06:28
furycd001This is the tutorial I followed is this one >> https://blog.raveland.org/post/thinkpad_update_bios/ & my laptop is a Thinkpad E470 with the BIOS Update (Bootable CD) being download directly from the lenovo website....06:28

BerlynI understand the importance of stability for servers and enterprise machines, hence LTS being the default option for most. However I was wondering for general every day use on my home computer, how unstable is the latest non-LTS release versus the LTS.07:33
shadow255for a home desktop, you'll likely find that the latest non-LTS development release is fine07:38
sanbotHi by ubuntu won't boot: many systemd module failed ,and in log it shows something like like can't set cgroup attribute  blkio.weight :no file or directory07:45
guivercBerlyn, if you want later software, non-LTS provides that... LTS releases only get security upgrades (with few exceptions) not later software, which is what makes it more stable... Later software & six-monthly upgrades versus older software & upgrades every 2+ years07:48

TJ-Unusual challenge. 20.04, NetworkManager (NM). On home network I've two separate ISP connections (different ISPs) each with its own combined AP/router/DHCPv4 server. Z (slow) is 10.254.1.0/24, S (fast) is 192.168.1.0/24. Z and S are on the same Ethernet broadcast domain. Different SSIDs. When client connects to S's AP NM REQUESTs an address in Z's pool. S sends a DHCPNAK. NM then sends a DISCOVER16:36
TJ-and gets an OFFER from Z which it REQUESTs and is ACKed. This causes the default route to be via Z (slow) rather than via S (fast). Trying to figure out how to tell NM to forget existing leases and directly do a DISCOVER. Any ideas?16:36
pavlosTJ-: maybe flush dhclient -r so that upon reconnect, it will DISCOVER16:42
TJ-pavlos: yeah, I'm trying to avoid manual intervention since this is a recurring issue. I was searching NM's settings expecting to find something but either missed it, or it doesn't exist. And I cannot create 2 connections with priorities since its on the same WiFi interface16:45
tatertotsTJ-: 2x ISP's and just your LAN devices...you could implement some load balancing / failover policies to manage these two ISP connections16:58
TJ-tatertots: I use IPv6 heavily and that is only available on Z currently, but when I connect to S's AP I want IPv4 to be via that route.  It's interim until Starlink adds full IPv6 routing so I suspect I'll have to use static settings for now17:01

noobiewanhello friends, I just installed Ubuntu 21.04, before I was running Win10. I have some hard drives in my computer that were being used in Windows. I'm having dificulties mouting them. I get errors such as "wrong fs type", "NTFS signature is missing" etc. Could someone guide me through this or point me to resources? I've been trying some tutorials but I couldn't find one that worked yet. Basically22:28
noobiewanI want to have access to files in those drives. Thanks22:28
pavlosnoobiewan: do you have ntfs-3g installed? (sudo apt install ntfs-3g)22:32
oerheksnoobiewan, maybe it is an exfat filesystem, install exfat-fuse exfat-utils and remount the drive22:32
oerhekshttps://itsfoss.com/mount-exfat/22:32
oerheksntfs is native nowaadays22:32
pavlosok22:32
noobiewannffs-3g is already installed22:33
oerheksif the filesystem is damaged, that could also prevent mounting22:34
noobiewanlike I'm not sure there is a partition, I was using the whole disk on windows22:35
oerheksbitlocker?22:35
noobiewanencryption?22:36
noobiewanI don't remember setting any encryption22:37
oerheksrun a fsck on that drive https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FilesystemTroubleshooting22:37

silatelis there any way for me to put kali theme on ubuntu?23:37
guivercsilatel, most themes are available at gnome-looks , but yes you can save the theme on a kali (live or other) session, then copy it to a ubuntu using the same-ish desktop23:38
silateli looked on gnome-looks but couldn't find anything, only grub23:39
silatelwhich i assumed was just the "sign in" theme23:39
silatelthen it was my same theme23:39
silatelhow could i go about copying the theme on a kali and then to ubuntu?23:40
silatelfrom* kali to ubuntu23:40
guivercdepends on what them you're asking about, i'd firstly look in /usr/share/themes/  (& likely copy everything & experiement later.. the directory isn't large)23:42
guivercI'm not well familiar with Kali Linux, but it used to use gnome-classic but I'm out of date sorry23:43
silateli'm afraid to "break" something on my ubuntu :D23:43
silatelso i would just copy everything from /usr/share/themes/ of kali to the same dir of ubuntu?23:43
silateland what do i do with my ubuntu /usr/share/themes/?23:43
guivercsilatel, you could always experiment on a 'VM' then.. but I'd use `cp -pn` (key is -n to only copy NEW files that don't already exist on your ubuntu, so you're not overwriting your existing Ubuntu files)23:44
silateli see23:44
silateli thought there was a simple way for me to do it and i just didn't know about it23:44
silatelwell then i'll try it on a vm first, and come back here if i have further questions23:45
silatelthank you for your help23:45
guivercsilatel, I was assuming you'd be ADDING not replacing themes on your ubuntu; the `-n` achieves that23:45
silatelwell i'm not sure if i need to add or replace actually23:45
silatelall i know is i want that theme :D23:45
guiverceasy way is likely gnome-looks, finding the packages on kali & installing that is also possible, but I'd personally avoid that without homework first to ensure no consequences... what I'm suggested I consider low risk (just fiddly)23:46
silatelunfortunately, like i said, i couldn't find the theme i want on gnome-looks23:46
guivercyeah not easy... there are other sites that may have it.. why I usually opt for copying the files (which I store on a shared server for later use, contains themes, icons, pixmaps, fonts etc...23:48
