lubot[telegram] <saivinob> Just an update so it may be of use to somebody. In my experience autologin and passwordless login are not same. I was looking for autologin at boot and able to do so by editing /etc/sddm.conf. I added following.03:33
lubot[telegram] <saivinob> `[Autologin]03:33
lubot[telegram] <saivinob>   User=me03:33
lubot[telegram] <saivinob>   Session=Lubuntu`.03:33
lubot[telegram] <saivinob> If we create nopasswdlogin group and add our user to it, it does not auto login on boot. It just lets us login without entering password. (re @saivinob: Hi, can we have passwordless/autologin for users created later? I think there would be nopasswdlogin group which I don't see in 'Users and Groups'.)03:33
lubot[telegram] <saivinob> How to get user switching to work in Lubuntu? If I click on 'New Login', it says gdmflexiserver not found. Does anybody know sddm's user-switch command?06:32
guivercI can't help... xubuntu have testing for other users in their QA so I've done that.... we had issues in focal with a couple (2 or 3) users who had machines used by multipe people, so I recall a (not great) work around for something but too long ago I forget sorry06:39
lubot[telegram] <saivinob> Np. There is setting newLoginCommand that we can use but don't know what to use for sddm. E.g. for dm-tool that is newLoginCommand: dm-tool switch-to-greeter (as per arch wiki). Tried online but can't find (so far). Will keep trying.07:38
lubot[telegram] <kc2bez> I don't think we have been able to get that to work. There was discussion about disabling the switch user button at one point. I don't think anyone chased it too far though. (re @saivinob: Np. There is setting newLoginCommand that we can use but don't know what to use for sddm. E.g. for dm-tool that is newLoginCommand: dm-tool switch-to-greeter (as per arch wiki). lubot[telegram] <saivinob> Noted. I needed that as my laptop is used by me as well as my daughter for her online classes. Any alternatives?08:34
lubot[telegram] <kc2bez> I'm not sure. It would be great if it worked so I am glad you brought it up. I guess other than logging out I don't know of an alternative.08:48
lubot[telegram] <aptghetto> Isn't there a button hidden in the screensaver to switch the user?08:49
lubot[telegram] <kc2bez> Yes, I don't think it works though.08:50
lubot[telegram] <kc2bez> It is on the lock screen08:50
lubot[telegram] <saivinob> That button labeled 'New Login', doesn't work. It gives error unable to execute gdmflexiserver. (re @aptghetto: Isn't there a button hidden in the screensaver to switch the user?)11:15
lubot[telegram] <saivinob> I found a ticket already raised: https://phab.lubuntu.me/T13211:16
lubot[telegram] <saivinob> There is also open issue upstream: https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/57911:17
blip99_hi all. I'm installing lubuntu 21.04 on an old laptop.  In Graphical installer I choose manual partitioning then I define a /boot, /boot/efi, / and /home parritions14:24
blip99_I then select luks2 as the file system time for / and /home14:24
blip99_then when i press install, the installer starts partitioning and crashes14:25
blip99_If I run calamares in cli, it just prints "Segmentation fault"14:25
blip99_This oesn't occur if I choose ext4 as the filesystem type14:25
blip99_Any thoughts what's happening?14:25
blip99_here are the partition settings https://imgur.com/9dNBPhC14:25
lubot[telegram] <kc2bez> Try luks1 instead of 214:27
lubot[telegram] <saivinob> @kc2bez that won't help. This was what I was mentioning sometime back regarding some filesystems listed in calamares, that should not be either shown or at least should pop out warning. luks1, luk2, fatNN, ntfs all belong in this category.14:30
blip99_am i supposed to choose ext4 then tick "encrypt"?14:31
blip99_is that the same thing as luks14:31
lubot[telegram] <kc2bez> that should work yes and it should be luks114:32
lubot[telegram] <kc2bez> luks1 should work, that is what happens when you do an erase disk and encrypt it. (re @saivinob: @kc2bez that won't help. This was what I was mentioning sometime back regarding some filesystems listed in calamares, that should not be either shown or at least should pop out warning. luks1, luk2, fatNN, ntfs all belong in this category.)14:33
lubot[telegram] <saivinob> I'm not talking about type (version) of encryption used (internally). I'm talking about filesystem choice in the list: luks1 and luks2. Both don't work. I've tried several combination.14:35
blip99_are you saying those filesystem choices are there due to a bug?14:35
blip99_What is the "correct choice"" saivinob and kc2bez14:35
lubot[telegram] <saivinob> The one you mentioned 'ext4' and then check 'encrypt'14:36
blip99_perfect. looks like it's working now14:40
blip99_this uses luks2 as i understtand14:40
lubot[telegram] <saivinob> that (internals) I do not know 😊14:42
blip99_no worries. thanks for the help :)14:48
blip99_3 days I'm stuck on this problem lol14:48
