isapgswellhi everyone18:16
isapgswellwhy ubuntu has X mouse acceleration via xset and Xorg acceleration too ?18:17
isapgswelland how the definitive way to disable mouse acceleration18:19
isapgswellon X and gnome-shell18:23
sarnoldisapgswell: probably, xinput to find the the names of your devices, xinput list-props "USB Optical Mouse"  (but with your device name) to see the properties, and then some xinput set-props to change the acceleration properties18:27
isapgswellsarnold, thx18:32
isapgswellsarnold i usually do: xset m 0/1 018:32
isapgswellsarnold, and set flat option on mouse acceleration gnome-tweaks18:33
isapgswellin my home folder, i create the file .xsessionrc with: xset m 0/1 018:33
sarnoldisapgswell: oh yeah, I remember using xset m for that now.. does that still work?18:34
isapgswellsarnold yes for sure, and a would like to see this option m 0/1 0 for default18:34
isapgswellx and gnome-shell acceleration for what?? LAG??18:35
isapgswelli play cs go, with it's acceleration too, oh my god!!!18:36
isapgswellsarnold if you want permanent xset conf, create a file in home folder called .xsessionrc with this: xset m 0/1 018:37
sarnoldisapgswell: thankfully I've been happy with whatever my defaults are when using i3wm18:39
isapgswellsarnold good, are you using ubuntu 20.04?18:40
sarnoldisapgswell: yeah18:40
isapgswellsarnold i3wm its better than mutter?18:41
sarnoldisapgswell: I don't think I tried mutter..18:42
sarnoldisapgswell: oh yeah, I've never tried it18:42
isapgswellsarnold is it hard too try out? i3wm?18:43
sarnoldisapgswell: it's pretty easy, you just need to change the configuration from using jkl; keys to hjkl instead for changing focus and moving windows, and then you just dive right in18:44
sarnoldthe user guide is pretty good https://i3wm.org/docs/userguide.html18:45
isapgswellsarnold good!18:45
sarnoldisapgswell: here's my config https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/BGVQzprbRk/ -- sorry it's not an easy diff to see what I changed, but I think at this point it was just moving the jkl; to hjkl -- moving the h to g -- and moving from alt to the windows key18:47
isapgswellsarnold i3wm works with steam?18:48
sarnoldisapgswell: I've never tried steam, but I suspect it'd be fine, I expect steam to take over the screen entirely18:48
sarnoldisapgswell: maybe you'd get tearing if you're not using a compositor with i3, I never figured out how that stuff works, I don't play much video on this machine, so occasional tearing while watching rocket launches is fine :)18:48
isapgswellsarnold wow18:50
isapgswellsarnold i3wm is lightweight18:50
sarnoldisapgswell: yeah; it doesn't work for everyone, but it mostly works for me. I ran it around 2010-2012 and loved it, then used unity from 2012 until 2017 or something, and switched back when we killed unity18:51
sarnoldisapgswell: I don't know what exactly changed or doesn't feel right, but it works well enough that I haven't gone looking for a replacement, hehe18:51
isapgswellsarnold yes, amazing!18:54
isapgswellsarnold mutter doesnt have many options for conf18:57
sarnoldisapgswell: where i3wm has a *lot* of options and I've barely scratched the surface :)18:59
isapgswellsarnold yep19:01
isapgswellsarnold i dont like so much mutter19:01
isapgswellsarnold maybe i switch a try another19:02
