[18:19] and how the definitive way to disable mouse acceleration [18:23] on X and gnome-shell [18:27] isapgswell: probably, xinput to find the the names of your devices, xinput list-props "USB Optical Mouse" (but with your device name) to see the properties, and then some xinput set-props to change the acceleration properties [18:32] sarnold, thx [18:32] sarnold i usually do: xset m 0/1 0 [18:33] sarnold, and set flat option on mouse acceleration gnome-tweaks [18:33] in my home folder, i create the file .xsessionrc with: xset m 0/1 0 [18:34] isapgswell: oh yeah, I remember using xset m for that now.. does that still work? [18:34] sarnold yes for sure, and a would like to see this option m 0/1 0 for default [18:35] x and gnome-shell acceleration for what?? LAG?? [18:36] i play cs go, with it's acceleration too, oh my god!!! [18:37] sarnold if you want permanent xset conf, create a file in home folder called .xsessionrc with this: xset m 0/1 0 [18:39] isapgswell: thankfully I've been happy with whatever my defaults are when using i3wm [18:40] sarnold good, are you using ubuntu 20.04? [18:40] isapgswell: yeah [18:41] sarnold i3wm its better than mutter? [18:42] isapgswell: I don't think I tried mutter.. [18:42] isapgswell: oh yeah, I've never tried it [18:43] sarnold is it hard too try out? i3wm? [18:44] isapgswell: it's pretty easy, you just need to change the configuration from using jkl; keys to hjkl instead for changing focus and moving windows, and then you just dive right in [18:45] the user guide is pretty good https://i3wm.org/docs/userguide.html [18:45] sarnold good! [18:47] isapgswell: here's my config https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/BGVQzprbRk/ -- sorry it's not an easy diff to see what I changed, but I think at this point it was just moving the jkl; to hjkl -- moving the h to g -- and moving from alt to the windows key [18:48] sarnold i3wm works with steam? [18:48] isapgswell: I've never tried steam, but I suspect it'd be fine, I expect steam to take over the screen entirely [18:48] isapgswell: maybe you'd get tearing if you're not using a compositor with i3, I never figured out how that stuff works, I don't play much video on this machine, so occasional tearing while watching rocket launches is fine :) [18:50] sarnold wow [18:50] sarnold i3wm is lightweight [18:51] isapgswell: yeah; it doesn't work for everyone, but it mostly works for me. I ran it around 2010-2012 and loved it, then used unity from 2012 until 2017 or something, and switched back when we killed unity [18:51] isapgswell: I don't know what exactly changed or doesn't feel right, but it works well enough that I haven't gone looking for a replacement, hehe [18:54] sarnold yes, amazing! [18:57] sarnold mutter doesnt have many options for conf [18:59] isapgswell: where i3wm has a *lot* of options and I've barely scratched the surface :) [19:01] sarnold yep [19:01] sarnold i dont like so much mutter [19:02] sarnold maybe i switch a try another === eliocamp02 is now known as eliocamp0 === eliocamp0 is now known as eliocamp === eliocamp6 is now known as eliocamp === eliocamp3 is now known as eliocamp
