Anna___"if you stick around long enough you should get a response"01:33
Anna___I'm here 5 hours. And it's the second time I try.01:34
Anna___Maybe I should retype my question every few hours?01:35
Unit193Anna___: I presume you don't mean from the live session, but directly in ubiquity-dm?01:35
docAnna___: might be those of us awake don't know the answer, but sure, every few hours is reasonable. 01:35
Unit193If it's ubiquity-dm I have zero ideas, maybe the main support channel would know.01:36
Anna___I have no idea what ubiquity-dm is.01:37
Anna___I have that bootable flash drive, i boot from usb trying to install, but I have the wrong resolution so i can't see a thing.01:38
Anna___Aside my issue, what is the best time for someone to ask a question here? (I'm from Europe)01:41
Anna___What is the main support channel? I thought this was it for xubuntu02:02
Unit193This is it for Xubuntu, yeah.  For the distro as a whole you have #ubuntu, which may know more about ubiquity-dm since it's not specific to Xfce/Xubuntu.02:03
Anna___Can you please at least explain what ubiquity-dm is?02:04
Unit193ubiquity is the installer used, 'ubiquity-dm' is what you get when you select 'install' at the screen that gives you the option to install or use a live session.02:06
Anna___oh it's simply the name of the installer. I got it that far. But whether it's -dm or no -dm, I don't know. Since the resolution is so bad that i can't even read anything, I couldn't select any option between trial or install...02:10
Unit193Does winkey+p bring anything up?  That normally will bring up display settings.02:11
Anna___never tied that. I only tried super+T to open the terminal and then the command xrandr, but it didn't work02:14
Anna___I'll try that too and thank for the suggestion but I'm afraid I won't be able to see the display options if they appear02:15
Unit193Alt+left click and drag02:15
Anna___I can blindly type a command and that's it. If xrandr doesn't work, is there a similar command?02:20
Unit193(Alt+left drag is moving a window without seeing the border.)  Not that I'm thinking of offhand.02:22
Anna___maybe the xrandr is obsolete and replaced? I'm not a terminal expert. I'll try both your suggestions, but can't it be done with a command?02:27
Unit193xrandr should still work for xorg, unless the desired resolution isn't avilable.  In the past I've had to forcefully add it, then switch.  I had a script to do this at login for one system a long time ago.02:28
Anna___When I tried xrandr it turned to a state like the monitor got disconected or something. What do you mean not available? My external monitor supports only 800x600 (it's an ancient one). My laptop is not that old, but its own monitor is broken...02:32
Anna___I think the installer detects the broken monitor and adjusts the resolution to that instead the working one, the external02:33
Anna___unrelated question: isn't the official channels on freenode anymore? We're not on freenode now, are we? (I came via a web browser)02:48
docAnna___: nope. All of freenode. Freenode hijacked the channels.02:49
doc*all off02:49
Unit193https://fridge.ubuntu.com/2021/05/26/announcing-ubuntus-move-to-libera-chat/02:49
Anna___Good. I didn't like freenode lately. I hope the new server won't force us to register too.02:55
Anna___I'll try the 2 tricks Unit193 suggested and if those won't work, I'll ask again on #ubuntu. Thanks you.02:57
Unit193Anna___: Sorry for the frustration!02:58
Anna___My broken monitor should be sorry, not you. Bye for now. kisses02:59

anotheryouHi, is there a command for the simple display preset switcher? I love that it doesn't need any confirmation ect. This one: https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/fqholl4l/image.png08:27
anotheryouSadly plugging in hdmi is often buggy with xubuntu and this is usually my rescue :)08:27
anotheryouWake up > plug in hdmi > try to enter password. Often not possible. I now always wake and unlock before I plug in hdmi...08:28
anotheryouAnd sometimes it mirrors screens instead of choosing the right setup08:28
