krytarikHey folks, I'll have ubot45 announce new bug reports here over the day at least, 1.) as a replacement for the bot that did this on the old network (but using Limnoria as a base instead), 2.) until an actual proper and persistent instance is found to provide it, and 3.) since it doesn't seem the rate of new bug reports is high enough to necessitate a dedicated channel for it.15:33
krytarik(I figure might as well run it here for testing rather than in #ubuntu-bots where hardly anybody sees it..)15:35

rbasakkrytarik: I'm not sure. I monitored this channel before for bona fide triaging requests. I think others did too. If your bot announces all new bugs, it won't be practical for me to do that.22:28
rbasakAnd then people might not be able to get simple triage requests handled, which would be bad.22:28
rbasakThat's only hypothetical right now. Let's see how it goes.22:29
krytarikrbasak: I mean as stands, it's been roughly 1 new bug report per hour so far, which imo can hardly be felt as interupting, while there hasn't been any real conversation going on.  Otoh, there have been people sitting in the -announce subchan specifically for these 8 notifications as of today so far.. >_>  Of course though, personally I have never been on either of these channels until now, ...22:46
krytarik... and merely ported the code from the previously used bot to a modern base (which is Limnoria) - so it doesn't really matter much to me how you folks handle the (so far) two channels.22:46
krytarikIt just occurred to us in this context that having a dedicated -announce channel while neither of the channels are really active these days, might be a little overkill.22:47
rbasakkrytarik: maybe you don't understand what this channel used to be used for? Someone would make a request. When looking at unread channels, I'd see the request and action it, even if several hours later. A bot writing not-triage requests once an hour will mean that I'll always have to be coming by, being forced to read that, in case it was a triage request. The only options I see are to not have the 22:54
rbasakbot, or to have people actually use the channel for the old purpose to /ignore your bot.22:54
krytarikAh, I see now..  And since it depends on what notification level a client assigns to notices vs normal message, it wouldn't help much to make the bot use notices instead, would it?22:57
krytarik(WeeChat in my case treats both of those the same in that regard, which causes the exact issue you mention on -news for me..)22:58
krytarikubot45: join #ubuntu-bugs-announce23:38
rbasakkrytarik: right. I might be able to tweak things client-side; I'm not sure. But for this use case to work for everyone, it'd be nice not to have to do any tweaking.23:38
krytarikubot45: part23:38
rbasakThanks :)23:39
