Myrttiin case anyone isn't up to date with freenode, they've now removed the Catalyst page from the website.10:31
MyrttiI'm more upset about this than anything else so far too be honest, although it was surprising it lasted so long10:41
ograMyrtti, well, if you say "libera.chat" in ##ubuntu on freenode and there is an OP in the channel you get banned ... that wouldnt go well with catalysts ... i guess they are just being honest about their own behaviour with that10:59

enychttps://ubuntu-news.org/2021/05/26/announcing-ubuntus-move-to-libera-chat/12:49
enycsays moved to libera.chat in general... but...12:49
enychttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/ChannelList12:49
enycshows lots of channels on freenode too12:49
enycdoes latter page simply need updating?  Is there a clear, decided, choice to leave many channels on freenode?12:49
rbasakI'm fairly sure it just needs updating.12:52
rbasakAs I understand it, Ubuntu has effectively been ejected from Freenode anyway (like all the other communities) because suggesting Libera.Chat is a TOS violation on Freenode now.12:53
launchdi’m pretty sure i have wiki access if someone needs a listing changed12:54
launchdso lmk12:54
enyc... ok that basically means -- is there any fact-checking needed?12:55
enycis it ok to simply update the IRC straight away and list all channels as on libera.chat now?12:55
rbasakIMHO, your link constitutes sufficient fact checking :-)12:55
rbasak(and again IMHO, any leftover references to Freenode are merely waiting for somebody to fix them)12:56
rbasakSo while I appreciate the caution, I think in this case JFD-ingI is appropriate.12:57
rbasakEspecially given that the community council have approved the move, and that it was accelerated by Freenode taking over all the old channels.12:57
rbasakThere seems no value in linking to the old place, AFAICT.12:58
rbasakI can't see anyone in the Ubuntu community objecting, or any toe-stepping happening.12:58
rbasak(note that I have no authority here; this is just my interpretation of the will of the community council and the IRC council)12:59
Mirvit's going to be very long wait if we except every channel maintainer to update that wiki page separately... but I can see the theoretical even if thin possibility that some would actually remain there13:29
Mirvespecially given some channels are likely abandoned13:32
hggdhspeaking as IRCC member: yes, we moved from Freenode to Libera; the move was sudden-ish given the events at Freenode, and the arbitrary actions of the current operators there13:38
hggdhthere is a LOT to be done still, and slowly we are getting there13:39
rbasakMirv: better that than newbies being led to an abandoned channel on Freenode IMHO.13:44
enycrbasak, launchd : ok so can you  do the  JFD-ingI  'ing updating the wiki.13:50
enycI would note, some searching for other freenode references is appropriate, may be other pages / elsewhere too.....13:50
rbasakOK I JFDI'd.13:56
rbasakSince IMHO, it's a disservice to the Ubuntu community now to point to Freenode because the channel _might_ be there.13:57
rbasakIf there's a channel that still positively hasn't moved, feel free to correct that.13:57
rbasakI left the Disaffiliated/Deprecated list alone.13:58
Myrttirbasak: thank you. with the catalyst page gone on freenode's website, I think the bridge was definitely burnt, at latest today14:00

enycrbasak: google      site:wiki.ubuntu.com "freenode.net"       reveals some more ... not all out of date, though many are14:26
rbasakenyc: please edit? I don't want to be the sole person doing all of this.14:30
rbasakIf we need to get your permission we can arrange that.14:30
tomreynrbasak: thanks for updating the irc channel list. when i was last updating it, i checked every channel to represent the current (moved, no longer exists/abandoned) state. did you nbow also check whether those channels actually exist on libera.chat? that's not something i expect to be done, just wondering whether maybe we should still do so, to not list abandoned channels.15:20
tomreyns/nbow/now/15:20
rbasaktomreyn: I did not do that, no. IMHO, it's incrementally better to stop pointing to Freenode, so I just did that part.15:20
rbasak(and any further cleansing is still open to anyone else to do)15:21
tomreynright, thanks.15:21

enycTheMaster: wow thankyou18:15
enycwrong ntame18:15
enyctomreyn: thankyou for doing taht checking channels.... 18:16
TheMasterHah, was confused!18:19
enychrrm18:19
enychttps://ubuntu-mate.org/irc/  still has freenode ;-(18:19
TheMasterThey're here, I helped them migrate.18:20
TheMasterWimpy: Hello!  enyc points out that https://ubuntu-mate.org/irc/ still has the wrong network.18:21
enycsimilarly  https://community.kde.org/Kubuntu   has IRC link that needs updating to point to freenode18:21
enycuerr to libera.chat18:22
enycmaybe more helpful I tell the ubuntu-mate and kubuntu people, as I have done18:22
enycprobably will find more18:22
krytarikYou know it's mildly fun though, to just drop the freenode header from all the ChannelList subpages while keeping all the channel links pointing to it.. >_>18:46
TheMasterhttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/Bots#preview is still out of date, but I updated it some.18:48
=== TheMaster is now known as Unit193
tomreynso i went ahead and updated *all* channel listings on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/ChannelList to actually point to libera.chat (as enyc pointed out, many were still pointing to freenode). removed those "On Livera.chat" section headlines, and added a "Webchat" link (but those links actually need updating for each channel, they just work as a template) to all channels other than the 'more advanced' /Team ones and the disaffiliated / deprecated 20:41
tomreynones.20:41
tomreynfirst source code mention of freenode is now down in the "Disaffiliated / Deprecated" section20:42
tomreynis "contact person(s)" based on something specific, like who asked for the channel to be added unter the ubuntu umbrella, or would you consider it freeform? and if it'S the latter, should we not rather remove that columns and just explain how to inspect channel ownership using chanserv?20:44
sarnoldwoot! thanks tomreyn :D20:45
Unit193I can confirm -installer was deprecated, but..20:46
sarnoldheh, jono, jenda, keybuck, joey, lamont, mjg59... I'm going to guess removing the column entirely would be the easiest way to bring it up to date20:47
Unit193I touched https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/Cloaks earlier, figured the Canonical people were wrong. :P20:48
tomreynanyone else got an opinion on removing contact persons off those lists?20:52
Unit193I removed the channels for ubottu since that's not exactly one can keep up with.  While it'd be great to retain the contact person, not sure that's going to work out.21:02
tomreynUnit193: but isn't thi sinformation you also see in the channel metadata? i.e. channel founder + successor + flags, namespace contacts?21:10
Unit193Group contacts no, but the rest generally yes, as long as it's public.21:11
Unit193tomreyn: I'm going with "Seems nice to have, but never kept up.  So OK to remove"21:11
tomreynhmm i see how it'd be nice to retain group contacts. maybe those should be preserved.21:13
tomreynflags are public for all channels by default on libera. i wonder whether everyone's aware of this.21:17
tomreyni personally like it, though21:17
