xu-help8wHi! Although my knowledge on informatics is very limited I've been using ubuntu/xubuntu for 10 years now, so installing window is not an option. I bought a new computer with following components::15:52
xu-help8wMother gigabyte H410M, processor intel core i7 10700 4.8 GHz, disk SSD Adata 480GB SU 630 520 MB/s, RAM: DDR4 15:55
oerheksmore important is your GPU ..15:56
oerheksthose specs should work fine15:56
xu-help8wI just have the one included in the processor, is that correct?15:57
xu-help8wi didn't buy an extra GPU15:57
xu-help8wI tried installing the last LTS version of xubuntu and although the installation completed successfully, after installing some programs I kept having PCIe errors and the system stop working15:58
oerheksthat i7 comes with IntelĀ® UHD Graphics 630 that should work fine15:59
oerheksnot a 4d gamer GPU, but works with youtube and such15:59
xu-help8wthe people who sold the machine to me, install the last version of xubuntu (21.04) and made it work. Now after installing some programs it stopped working again 15:59
xu-help8wnow i'm trying to install it again but it keeps showing errors no matter which option I choose16:00

xu-help8wthis is what is showing right now16:03
multyFor booting a fresh Xubuntu, it should be enough to point BIOS to the .iso file on USB right?18:11
multyI"m getting "The selected boot device failed"18:11
multysecure boot is disabled.  I'm just wondering if I needed to burn a "bootable" iso or if the iso by itself is enough18:12
xu-help34wI need to buy a new printer. How can I know wether it will work with ubuntu? The link to the open printer database in the official documentation does not work.18:14
coconutmulty, you have the .iso file just as listed on your usb right now? If yes, then you are doing something wrong.18:17
multyyea just as listed.. you mean  something else is wrong right ?18:17
coconutmulty, get any data on the usb backup-ed, and then you just write the iso to the usb with gnome disks. That should create a working usb out of the iso file.18:19
multyI'm not trying to boot from the USB to be clear, just install straight to disk - but maybe I still need to write it with gnome disks ?18:19
coconutmulty, what file are on the usb when you mount it?18:20
multyjust the xubuntu iso18:20
coconutyeah, that is wrong then... just put the usb in and start gnome disk(if you have a linux installed already off course), and write the iso to usb disk with "restore partition image".18:23
coconutor is this under windows?18:30
multywell i have one xubuntu going, but i'm installing onto a windows-only18:30
multyi think i can follow your guide on the xubuntu to write it18:30
coconutshould do it yes18:30
coconutsuccess18:31
multyactually it's the chromebook OS i forgot18:31
multyi forget the name18:31
multyGalliumOS18:31
multyshouldnt matter though18:31
coconutchrome os has a terminal right? then just do a cp of the iso the the correct /dev/LOCATION and it should work too.18:34
multyits not chrome os, its an actual linux distrib, pretty good one too actually18:34
multygalliumos18:35
coconutwith that you should be able to do it in terminal too, but gnome disk is easiest imo.18:35
multyoh but gnome is wrapped with.. gnome, i should have guessed hah18:37
multyi have xfce on the gallium18:37
coconutit will pull some dependencies but not whole gnome i believe18:39
coconutcheck it with "apt show gnome-disk-utility"18:41
multycool, looking at "Depends" maybe?18:42
multyi'll try18:42
coconutyeah18:42
multywhole point is get off that little puter anyway hah18:42
multycool, works18:43
coconutor18:43
coconutapt-cache depends gnome-disk-utility18:43
coconutmight be easier to read18:43
multyok where is this 'restoreo partitiion image'..18:47
multyrestore *disk image ?18:48
multyand create disk image18:48
coconutselect first your usb disk > select a partition on the usb > additional partition options > restore partition image18:50
multyok yea, 30 min write time, that feels more legit hah19:01
coconutlol19:02
multyi had already chosen restore disk image though , hope that works ?19:03
multyi dont care if usb is consumed by it19:03
coconutshould work too i believe19:05
multyxubuntu seems to offer boot / grub / mm [x64] - you need shimx64 for Secure Boot i'm reading20:05
multydo most people just leave it off20:05
multyoh nm - mmx64 is the secureboot init I see20:08
multywell it skipped right over the mmx64 it seems, but it's loading the grub20:15
multyif anyone knows about signing the machine key with mmx64 later, for SecureBoot, hmu20:15
