[01:46] hi people, I have xubuntu 21.04 and I have a problem with the suspend: when the laptop lid is closed it suspends, then I open the lid the screen is freezed, I only can move the mouse, then I close the laptop lid and sometimes It shows lock screen . [01:46] onebody know what can I do? === genii-core is now known as genii [15:52] Hi! Although my knowledge on informatics is very limited I've been using ubuntu/xubuntu for 10 years now, so installing window is not an option. I bought a new computer with following components:: [15:55] Mother gigabyte H410M, processor intel core i7 10700 4.8 GHz, disk SSD Adata 480GB SU 630 520 MB/s, RAM: DDR4 [15:56] more important is your GPU .. [15:56] those specs should work fine [15:57] I just have the one included in the processor, is that correct? [15:57] i didn't buy an extra GPU [15:58] I tried installing the last LTS version of xubuntu and although the installation completed successfully, after installing some programs I kept having PCIe errors and the system stop working [15:59] that i7 comes with IntelĀ® UHD Graphics 630 that should work fine [15:59] not a 4d gamer GPU, but works with youtube and such [15:59] the people who sold the machine to me, install the last version of xubuntu (21.04) and made it work. Now after installing some programs it stopped working again [16:00] now i'm trying to install it again but it keeps showing errors no matter which option I choose [16:03] Uploaded file: https://uploads.kiwiirc.com/files/f8d11353ab9dbca0f70d950d3de2f14b/signal-2021-07-12-130144.jpeg [16:03] this is what is showing right now [18:11] For booting a fresh Xubuntu, it should be enough to point BIOS to the .iso file on USB right? [18:11] I"m getting "The selected boot device failed" [18:12] secure boot is disabled. I'm just wondering if I needed to burn a "bootable" iso or if the iso by itself is enough [18:14] I need to buy a new printer. How can I know wether it will work with ubuntu? The link to the open printer database in the official documentation does not work. [18:17] multy, you have the .iso file just as listed on your usb right now? If yes, then you are doing something wrong. [18:17] yea just as listed.. you mean something else is wrong right ? [18:19] multy, get any data on the usb backup-ed, and then you just write the iso to the usb with gnome disks. That should create a working usb out of the iso file. [18:19] I'm not trying to boot from the USB to be clear, just install straight to disk - but maybe I still need to write it with gnome disks ? [18:20] multy, what file are on the usb when you mount it? [18:20] just the xubuntu iso [18:23] yeah, that is wrong then... just put the usb in and start gnome disk(if you have a linux installed already off course), and write the iso to usb disk with "restore partition image". [18:30] or is this under windows? [18:30] well i have one xubuntu going, but i'm installing onto a windows-only [18:30] i think i can follow your guide on the xubuntu to write it [18:30] should do it yes [18:31] success [18:31] actually it's the chromebook OS i forgot [18:31] i forget the name [18:31] GalliumOS [18:31] shouldnt matter though [18:34] chrome os has a terminal right? then just do a cp of the iso the the correct /dev/LOCATION and it should work too. [18:34] its not chrome os, its an actual linux distrib, pretty good one too actually [18:35] galliumos [18:35] with that you should be able to do it in terminal too, but gnome disk is easiest imo. [18:37] oh but gnome is wrapped with.. gnome, i should have guessed hah [18:37] i have xfce on the gallium [18:39] it will pull some dependencies but not whole gnome i believe [18:41] check it with "apt show gnome-disk-utility" [18:42] cool, looking at "Depends" maybe? [18:42] i'll try [18:42] yeah [18:42] whole point is get off that little puter anyway hah [18:43] cool, works [18:43] or [18:43] apt-cache depends gnome-disk-utility [18:43] might be easier to read [18:47] ok where is this 'restoreo partitiion image'.. [18:48] restore *disk image ? [18:48] and create disk image [18:50] select first your usb disk > select a partition on the usb > additional partition options > restore partition image [19:01] ok yea, 30 min write time, that feels more legit hah [19:02] lol [19:03] i had already chosen restore disk image though , hope that works ? [19:03] i dont care if usb is consumed by it [19:05] should work too i believe [20:05] xubuntu seems to offer boot / grub / mm [x64] - you need shimx64 for Secure Boot i'm reading [20:05] do most people just leave it off [20:08] oh nm - mmx64 is the secureboot init I see [20:15] well it skipped right over the mmx64 it seems, but it's loading the grub [20:15] if anyone knows about signing the machine key with mmx64 later, for SecureBoot, hmu === genii is now known as genii-core [22:59] hi people, I have xubuntu 21.04 and I have a problem with the suspend: when the laptop lid is closed it suspends, then I open the lid the screen is freezed, I only can move the mouse, then I close the laptop lid and sometimes It shows lock screen .
