finalspacevoidnot sure if that makes sense but given that mate is gtk based, will it have problems moving to gtk4 and whatever gnome does next? im trying to understand how "future proof" mate is really ;-)11:03
Mekanecki don't see any problem, MATE originaly was forked from Gnome 2 which used GTK 2, then MATE got ported to GTK# and the same thing will happen with future GTK releases11:06

guivercfinalspacevoid, I agree with Mekaneck, I don't expect MATE to port early, not until GTK4 is fully stable & the road ahead is clearer... (MATE ported well ahead of XFCE, LXDE decided to drop GTK3 early in the port (to GTK3) & joined with Razor-Qt creating LXQt - I don't see anything like that happening with MATE)11:32
finalspacevoidthx for your replies. are gtk based desktops becoming problematic at all regarding gnome mainline decisions?13:35
superkuhYes. Gtk3 based desktops like MATE are now missing many features due to removals and many gsettings have stopped working.13:36
bigpodsuperkuh: what do you mean by that13:37
superkuhI mean that the current frozen state of gtk3 at GNOME includes a lot of won't fix bugs and formerly usable gsettings who's changes by users are no longer respected.13:37
superkuhLike the File->Open dialog and inability to paste file paths.13:38
superkuhIt seems to me lots of it just got so spaghetti and mixed up they decided to just start over with gtk4. And 4 still has intentional feature removals, but at least they fix the bugs.13:39
finalspacevoidubuntu mate uses a different bluetooth backend to regular ubuntu right? what will happen to my paired devices if that gets updated for 21.10/22.04?15:02
Mekanecki bet they keep working15:28
finalspacevoidis there a reason online accounts is not part of ubuntu mate? i guess there's another way to connect gmail/gdrive?18:02
