m0nkey_We got a cool day over here in Montreal, 23C now and should peak around 24C. 16:22
m0nkey_there must be a better way.. *sigh*17:00
m0nkey_dave@ubuntu:~$ cat .ssh/known_hosts | wc -l17:00
m0nkey_22417:00
diddledanknown_hosts has never once told me about a key mismatch that was malicious17:00
m0nkey_No, that's not mismatched17:01
diddledanit's always been "I reinstalled that box"17:01
m0nkey_That 224 legit hosts17:01
diddledan"... quit bugging me about it!"17:01
m0nkey_I need some kind of SSH connection manager so I can group hosts and stuff17:01
diddledanhow many times have you actually verified the key you saved to known_hosts was the expected key?? we just connect anyway in the first case and as soon as it complains the key changed we `ssh-keygen -R host.example.com` and try again17:03
m0nkey_we dont17:04
m0nkey_I went to a talk by Michael W Lucas at BSDCan in 2018 I think, all about SSH, how to manage keys, verify hosts, etc. none of which is really put into practice. I picked up a copy of his book SSH Mastery. I need to implement some of that stuff myself. I especially like the CA type key management.17:05
m0nkey_here's the talk i went to.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVT7sepck6817:06
* diddledan will watch17:09
daftykinsi had a key change on one of my 20.04 VMs the other day, bit weird... didn't really know how to dig into it, only thing that had changed is i had powered off to update XCP-ng17:09
daftykinsso shutdown, update host, reboot, boot VMs17:09
diddledanmight be the old key was generated using a potentially vulnerable mechanism? debian derivatives had something like that several years ago17:19
diddledan32C17:20
