[18:18] OvenWerks: Impish is upgraded to Jack 1.9.19. Got some weird stuff going on with Studio Controls now. It gets stuck in Poststart. [18:20] Looks like it gets stuck on adding pulse bridges. [18:28] OvenWerks: Autojack log: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/2h8vk8N7yb/ [19:07] OvenWerks: Downgraded Jack, so that's definitely the culpret. [19:43] Eickmeyer: thats not much to go on... [19:44] OvenWerks: Yeah, I'm not sure, but it seems as though jackd2 1.9.19 breaks the pulsaudio bridge. I'm guessing pulsaudio needs to be rebuilt against it since it uses libjack-dev as a dependency. [19:46] I emailed the maintainer of Pulseaudio at Canonical to see if it warrants a no-change rebuild with a dep change for pulse to libjackd2-dev. [19:49] Eickmeyer: that _should_ not happen. The API should not change. That is an ap built using libjack-dev (jackd1) shold still work on jackd2 and an app built with libjack-jackd2-dev should still work on jackd1 [19:50] OvenWerks: Ok, then something is broken in Impish re: the pulsaudio bridge. It just plain won't start. [19:50] Not with Jack 1.9.19. [19:50] You might give it a shot and figure out what's wrong. [19:50] Eickmeyer: if you look at ~/.log/jack/jackdbus.log [19:51] maybe it will give more info. [19:52] OvenWerks: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/Cwf3ZTqP7P/ [19:52] It's pretty nasty. [19:56] Thats wierd. [19:56] why is it only pulse? [19:57] It looks like pulse only happened once and then never loaded after that? [19:59] Eickmeyer: did you run jackd with no pulse bridges a few times? [20:00] OvenWerks: Only after I deleted .conf/autojack to see if that would help, but no dice there. [20:01] Just basic troubleshooting, but the entire thing kinda hangs at starting the bridges. [20:01] yeah. there are so many xruns [20:03] pulse sink seems to never come back. [20:04] Did you try with just a source? [20:05] OvenWerks: Yep, no dice. [20:05] Wouldn't even start the bridge. [20:06] I wonder if we need to rope falktx in on this one. [20:06] but fine on 20.04 [20:06] Well, it's 1.9.19 that's the culpret afaict. [20:06] I have jack 1.9.19 and controls 2.1.71 on 20.04 [20:07] from back ports?) [20:07] and pulse bridging seem to be ok [20:07] (I have audio from youtube anyway) [20:09] Eickmeyer: so it is something different from 20.04 to 21.10 [20:10] OvenWerks: No, I pushed the jackd2 upgrade to impish myself (part of being a MOTU). From 1.9.17 to 1.9.19. [20:10] so where did I get 1.9.19 from? [20:10] I brought it in. I have direct upload access. [20:10] So, me. [20:11] It did show up yesterday or today [20:11] Yesterday. I uploaded it yesterday. [20:11] (in 20.04 [20:11] I'm not running 20.04. That's still on the old Jack version. [20:11] Inthis case, it looks like 1.9.12 for focal. [20:12] I'm running 21.10. [20:12] 1.9.19~dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu1~ubuntu20.04.1~ppa1 is in the ppa [20:13] OvenWerks: Yeah, but I deleted it. [20:13] After I found the breakage. [20:13] For fear it'd break in Focal. [20:13] Ok but in 20.04 it does not seem to broken [20:13] Interesting. [20:14] Can you confirm that's the package on your system? [20:14] The line I posted above is from muon it says that is what is installed [20:15] OvenWerks: Ok, so it's not broken in Focal. Odd. [20:15] But it's broken in Impish. Very odd. [20:15] also, jackdbus.log shows: Controller activated. Version 1.9.19 (unknown) built o [20:15] n Tue Jul 20 22:17:53 2021 [20:16] I'll go ahead and reupload to backports for that then since it's not broken. But, it was definitely broken on Impish. [20:16] I wonder if it is is a hw difference [20:17] I am definately running a different jack backend (ffado) [20:17] Might be. [20:24] Ok, started with alsa and and ice1712 pulse ok, started with a USB dongle as master, pulse ok [20:24] Eickmeyer: ^^ [20:24] OvenWerks: Ok, something might be off with my system then. It did not like to start using jack 1.9.19. [20:25] Eickmeyer: I will be kind of busy today but maybe tomorrow can try impish [20:25] OvenWerks: Sounds good. [20:27] controls looks pretty solid, I used to have things lock up on me if I applied device changes too many times in a row... but seems good now. [20:27] Agreed. [20:28] I think Monday I will rename it to 2.2.0 and release (so it actually gets really tested :P ) [20:30] Sounds good. :)
