[03:31] I thought 256 mg efi, 20gig root, rest home [04:30] hi there [04:30] any reason you prefer kubuntu over vanilla ubuntu? === admin is now known as Junior [06:14] Good morning === Lord_of_Life_ is now known as Lord_of_Life === dev is now known as Guest9548 === Guest9548 is now known as potato_dev [09:13] Is it my idea, or `discover` doesn't list any software from PPAs? [09:41] wrong, it does [09:42] once you have installed it discover will update it === dev is now known as Guest2326 === Guest2326 is now known as potato_devs [10:44] Mamarok: I mean, that for software that is not available in normal repositories and it's only in PPAs, if you search for them in discover, they don't show up [10:44] If you do install them using apt install first, then after that, discover can update them [10:45] ..right? :) [10:46] (at least that what my tests show far show...) [10:49] yes, that's how it works [11:09] Hmm, any ways around the issue? I wonder if packages from opensuse build studio do show up... [11:10] The end goal is for me to upload packages somewhere, so that novice users will be able to install them without using the command line [11:24] Yeah obs packages do show up even on "search", before manual installation === muh2000__ is now known as muh2000 [11:56] Hi all [12:09] How does kubuntu work in matter of battery backup of laptop [12:09] Better than windows or any other linux [12:10] was that a question? [12:11] yes - it's just missing the question mark ... -_- [12:11] How does kubuntu perform when it comes about battery life ? (re @ADHIVP: How does kubuntu work in matter of battery backup of laptop) [12:12] ??? [12:14] since we don't know what you are going to do with your laptop: just about as any modern os with some gui would ... [12:15] or do you expect there is some battery drain somewhere, just because your machine runs kubuntu? [12:15] Mainly browsing with brave, videos with vlc and small amount of coding in visual code [12:16] try plugin it in when performing a backup if you fear it running out? [12:16] No [12:16] plugin in a laptop for updating/backing-up etc is always a good idea, especially if you have not a high-performance battery that lasts several hours [12:16] I want to know when I have same processor , battery and same work to do . Which operating system is good [12:17] That comparison I need [12:17] my laptop has an 8-hour battery, I never had to worry about that and it runs Kubuntu since I have it [12:17] . (re @IrcsomeBot: or do you expect there is some battery drain somewhere, just because your machine runs kubuntu?) [12:17] 🆗 (re @IrcsomeBot: my laptop has an 8-hour battery, I never had to worry about that and it runs Kubuntu since I have it) [12:17] . (re @ADHIVP: I want to know when I have same processor , battery and same work to do . Which operating system is good) [12:18] and it makes sense to have the alarm set to +20% if you worry it running out. Not knowing what kind of processor GPU etc you have we can only guess anyway$ [12:19] mind you, it's usually the graphics that use up power e.g. GPUs are very hungry with that, backup is a low-level thing that usually doesn't use as much power [12:19] unless you need to watch the backup running visually... [12:19] rsnyc is a good choice if you fear for your battery [12:28] rsnyc ok [13:07] Tlp helps with battery too [13:07] Not sure if they're in-built to kubuntu yet [13:16] you mean the command-line command tip for connecting to a server through a modem? That's more a BSD tool, not a Linux one [13:19] TLP [13:20] It's a power management think for laptops [13:20] It's a power management thing for laptops [13:20] oh I read tip and was wondering why one would suggest that... [13:21] lel [13:21] of course it is part of Linux, no need to build it specifically for Kubuntu === genii-core is now known as genii [15:02] In the latest Android update we got a feature called live captions (which automatically generate subtitles for any video playing on the screen) . Is there any way to enable the same feature in vlc Kubuntu? [15:15] no idea, maybe if it is the same version and the feature already exists in this version, else you will have to ask the VLC people [15:15] * Mamarok hasn't used vlc recently [15:44] 🆗 [15:44] Any one knows [15:49] guess not [15:50] as I said, you can always ask the vlc people, I bet they have a channel as well [15:51] Thnx [15:51] new features won't come to Kubuntu 20.04 and 21.04. Maybe the new VLC with the feature will land in 21.10 which will be released in October. [17:30] Hi, i'm using Kubuntu 20.04 LTS and i cannot use dead keys in Firefox, neither for combined characters, nor for the single character ~. This seems to be independent of the keyboard layout selected in KDE settings. I don't know where to look for solutions and cannot seem to find good search terms for google. [17:31] Deadkeys/accents work fine in other apps, including Thunderbird. [17:45] Guest58, wayland? [17:45] no, default install, kwin_x11 [17:45] i did import my previous firefox profile dir though [17:45] 20.04 doesn't even have wayland === WildSoft_ is now known as WildSoft === genii is now known as genii-core
