=== genii-core is now known as genii [15:50] hello [15:50] anyone home? [16:21] versuche gerade lubuntu 20.4 zu installieren - bricht jedesmal ab wegen "sfdisk" [16:24] [telegram] du hast einen deutschen Kanal unter lubuntu.me/links (re @lubuntu_bot: (irc) versuche gerade lubuntu 20.4 zu installieren - bricht jedesmal ab wegen "sfdisk") [16:24] oh, sorry [16:25] [telegram] This is english support [16:25] i tried to install lubuntu 20.4 - always failing because of "sfdisk" [17:14] it crashed again with sfdisk .... [17:20] but now looks like it has managed [17:21] [telegram] You have the option to do partitions with kde partition manager? [17:22] [telegram] What is the exit of launching installation with sudo calamares -d? [17:28] screen-saver should not show up when installing ... [17:28] "exit of launching installation"? [17:30] (installer now saying "all done" ) [17:33] now hangs after first reboot ... [17:36] [telegram] With sudo calamares -d? (re @lubuntu_bot: (irc) "exit of launching installation"?) [17:36] [telegram] Have you tried another usb? [18:30] another usb? [19:25] itu: a different usb storage as an installer medium [19:25] possibly yours is broken [19:26] something else you should test is (a) whether the .iso did download properly and (b) whether it was properly written to the installer media. compare checksums for both tests. [19:27] a free graphical interface application which can do (b) is balena etcher - it works on all major operating systems. [19:38] looks like this old laptop has some special problems, notably getting quite hot [19:49] that's pretty common with older laptops, unless you clean them. but even then, they can run hotter now than they used to, due to cpu bug mitigations [20:24] http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/20.04.1/release/SHA256SUMS has checksum of 20.04.2 .... fail !?! [20:25] ok , good info (about hotness-issues) [20:41] http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/20.04.1/release/MD5SUMS :-/ [20:46] [20:46] itu: i'm afraid i don't understand what you're meaning to say. if you have another question, can you ask it differently? [20:47] hmm [20:48] md5 is considered weak / broken, that's probably why you cna only find an SHA-2 checksum [20:49] the above URL is about 20.04.one but the content is about lubuntu-20.04.two [20:50] yes, i just noticed this as well. do you need the older installer for some reason? [20:50] :-/ [20:51] sorry to see you're unhappy, is there a way to change this? [20:52] ok ... i'll download the freshest lubuntu TLS now [20:54] (still want to mention that i still use scripts for re-reading images from usb-stick and then check them ....) [20:56] so you're saying you had verified that you had both downloaded a byte exact copy of lubuntu-20.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso and had also verified that this was written byte exactly to the installer storage? [20:58] https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2463290&page=2&p=14043095#post14043095 seems to explain why the older 20.04 point releases are no longer available from cdimage.ubuntu.com [21:03] and the boothole issue, as well as it's early mitigation techniques (which caused some systems to fail to boot) could indeed be what you ran into.
