jibelHey duflu_ 07:16
seb128goood morning desktopers07:42
oSoMoNwelcome back seb128 07:49
oSoMoNseb128, could you please unblock thunderbird from the impish queue? there's a new binary package that needs accepting (thunderbird-locale-lv)07:52
seb128oSoMoN, hey, thanks, thunderbird bin accepted. 91 is the new stable? (just wondering if I should move the snap to it)07:54
jibelSalut seb128 07:55
seb128lut jibel!07:55
laneyyo08:04
ricotzgood morning everyone :)08:05
laneyheya08:05
dufluMorning seb128, ricotz, laney 08:06
seb128hey laney, ricotz, duflu , happy friday! how are you?08:07
dufluseb128, going well. How are you?08:08
laneyhey duflu hey seb128 08:12
laneydoing well, looking forward to a week off ;-)08:12
seb128duflu, I'm great thanks08:17
seb128laney, oh right, it's your turn :) anything fancy for the holidays?08:18
ricotzI am looking forward to have libreoffice 7.2.0 ready :)08:18
laneygoing to wales08:18
laneysome time by the sea!08:18
laneythat counts as fancy I think08:18
ricotzseb128, I hope you had a nice time off08:18
seb128ricotz, I had thanks!08:18
ricotzgreat08:19
seb128I missed ff though and sounds like others didn't pick up doing 41 updates, let's see if there are some worth doing with a ffe now08:19
dufluI can't think of any GNOME 41 fixes we need immediately but after they have spent more time maturing might recommend cherry picks to 40 later08:23
oSoMoNseb128, yes, 91 is the new firefox ESR, and thus the new thunderbird stable08:23
seb128oSoMoN, hum, I build thunderbird 91.0.1 to candidate but sounds like it fails to use existing profiles and start with a create account? is that known to you?08:23
seb128duflu, the new power profiles handling could be interesting08:24
oSoMoNseb128, it could be because of this: "Thunderbird 91 is only offered as direct download from thunderbird.net and not as an upgrade from Thunderbird version 78 or earlier. A future release will provide updates from earlier versions."08:25
seb128oSoMoN, I need to try if the deb in proposed has the same isssue08:26
seb128we should probably hold the update if that's the case?08:26
oSoMoNyes, I must admit I didn't test that, and we should probably hold the update indeed08:27
oSoMoNlet me test this on my side08:27
ricotzyeah, afair there is a profile change, and an direct upgrade is not possible yet08:27
oSoMoNIIRC the same happened when the 68->78 transition happened, profile upgrade was enabled in a later point release08:28
ricotzbetter go with 78.14.0 for now08:29
oSoMoNfor stable releases for sure, but I still think it's valuable to have 91 in impish-proposed, to get it some testing08:29
oSoMoNassuming/hoping that the point release that enables profile upgrades will be out before final freeze08:30
ricotzthat is reasonable, but if the upgrade path is not available in 91.1.0 this gets tight08:30
dufluseb128, enhancements like that are usually problematic because you know GNOME developers like adding new dependencies, even on packages we don't have yet08:31
ricotzhttps://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/91.0/releasenotes/08:31
dufluAs an example, mutter-41 requires a version of glib we don't have in impish yet08:31
dufluor ever08:31
seb128duflu, right, which is why I said 'could'. We already have the daemon and the settings UI in since previous cycle though so it's just an iteration over existing code08:32
seb128ricotz, oSoMoN, we can always keep 91 to proposed and delete later if it turns out there will me no migration before release, but there is still time to decide08:34
oSoMoNseb128, that sounds like a plan, can you remind me how we request a package to remain blocked in proposed?08:35
seb128oSoMoN, open a bug tagged block-proposed08:35
ricotzseb128, oSoMoN, acked :)08:36
ricotzlaney, regarding vala 0.52 -- valabind should work with a simple no-change rebuild while it build-deps on "libvala-dev"08:38
ricotzlaney, I have pushed fixes for anjuta to the upstream git, but as it looks like it fails due to bison changes08:39
laneythis is the kind of testing I was asking about08:39
WimpyMorning o/08:40
laneypeace Wimpy 08:40
ricotzlaney, anjuta is not on my radar anymore, not sure if it should be considered superseeded by gnome-builder08:41
ricotzand therefore dropped? :\08:41
ricotzI assume this anjuta failure came up in the archive rebuilds08:42
dufluHi Wimpy 08:44
oSoMoNricotz, seb128: I tested the 78.13.0 -> 91.0 upgrade path in an impish VM, and my existing profile was correctly used08:45
oSoMoNso we might not need a block after all?08:46
WimpyHey duflu , laney 08:46
oSoMoNor better to play it safe and follow upstream's lead on upgrades08:46
laneyricotz: well that's why we have tools to find all reverse deps08:47
oSoMoNricotz, seb128: bug #194063108:48
ubottuBug 1940631 in thunderbird (Ubuntu) "Keep thunderbird 91 in impish-proposed until a point release enables profile upgrades" [High, Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/194063108:48
oSoMoNseb128, you missed a couple of messages, let me copy them here for you:08:52
oSoMoN« I tested the 78.13.0 -> 91.0 upgrade path in an impish VM, and my existing profile was correctly used »08:52
oSoMoN« so we might not need a block after all? »08:52

ubottuBug 1940631 in thunderbird (Ubuntu) "Keep thunderbird 91 in impish-proposed until a point release enables profile upgrades" [High, Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/194063108:53
oSoMoNI wonder why your existing profile wasn't reused with the snap08:53
seb128oSoMoN, thanks08:54
seb128oSoMoN, is there a flag that would display debug info? -h isn't helpftul08:55
oSoMoNseb128, you can open the console from the tools > development tools menu09:00
ricotzoSoMoN, I guess upstream knows about some edge cases which don't work yet09:03
seb128oSoMoN, I've an error 'Unexpected event profile-after-change' at the start of the log09:03
seb128dunno if that's related09:03
seb128oSoMoN, could you try if the candidate snap correctly use your existing profile?09:04
seb128oSoMoN, also 'SearchSettings: get: No settings file exists, new profile? DOMException: Could not open the file at /home/seb128/snap/thunderbird/common/.thunderbird/vzdlnx4x.default-release/search.json.mozlz4'09:07
oSoMoNthe  'Unexpected event profile-after-change' error seems unrelated, as I'm seeing it too09:09
oSoMoNthe second one might be related though, I'm not seeing it here09:09
oSoMoNtrying the snap now09:09
seb128it's not my profile09:10
seb128I removed .thunderbird, install the snap from stable, set up a simple email account then upgraded to candidate and still no profile09:11
GunnarHjHi seb128, welcome back!09:13
GunnarHjseb128: As regards bug #1927149 I've struggled with two upstreams, but wasn't very successful. For now I think we should edit the POT for snap-store-desktop and upload it manually to LP to not expose all those strings to the translators.09:13
ubottuBug 1927149 in snap-store-desktop "Irrelevant translatable strings" [High, New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/192714909:13
seb128GunnarHj, hey, editing seems fine to me yes09:14
seb128oSoMoN, well it's weird, the profile in that error is a new dir and not the one existing from the stable version ... anyway, don't let me sidetrack you with that, you have enough things on your plates already09:15
GunnarHjseb128: I can edit but not upload to that project. Can you do that if I provide a modified POT?09:16
seb128yes09:17
GunnarHjOk, back a bit later.09:18
seb128GunnarHj, email it to meand I will handle once I'm done with other things in the backlog09:18
seb128thx09:18
oSoMoNseb128, I'm seeing the same as you with the snap, and I wonder if it's related to the problem I'm seeing with the firefox snap where imported profiles aren't being used because the profile directory name contains a hash of the executable's dirname, which in the case of the snap changes with each revision?09:18
oSoMoNI haven't got to the bottom of that issue yet, will let you know when I have a better understanding of it09:19
seb128oSoMoN, ack, thanks09:21
oSoMoNseb128, with Tre_vinho out today and du_flu on week-end already, who can look at bug #1940657 ?13:47
ubottuBug 1940657 in gnome-shell (Ubuntu) "Cannot type in address bar nor page content in live session" [Undecided, New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/194065713:47
schopinfyi I'm the bug reporter, if you need more info.13:48
oSoMoNseb128, I know what's going on with the thunderbird snap not re-using the existing profiles: there is some code in nsToolkitProfileService to detect if the application is packaged as a snap, and in such a case skip the hash thing I was mentioning earlier. This works well for firefox, not so much for thunderbird, because the code hardcodes "firefox" as the snap name to check… I'll file a bug and submit a patch upstream15:09
oSoMoN(see https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/file/tip/toolkit/profile/nsToolkitProfileService.cpp#l2032)15:10
laneylol15:24
ricotzhellsworth, hi, there is libreoffice 7.2.0 in libreoffice-prereleases if you like to check it out15:33
ricotzlaney, hi, is this FFe sufficient? https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/194055615:34
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1940556 in libreoffice (Ubuntu Impish) "FFe: libreoffice 7.2.0 for impish" [High, In Progress]15:34
ricotzI will make sure to run autopkgtest on the successful ppa build before uploading15:35
oSoMoNseb128, https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=172680815:35
ubottuMozilla bug 1726808 in Toolkit "nsToolkitProfileService::IsSnapEnvironment() hardcodes 'firefox' instead of checking against MOZ_APP_NAME" [--, Unconfirmed]15:35
hellsworthricotz: i tested it yesterday or the day before. looks really nice to me15:42
hellsworthalso there's 7.2 snap in edge but the fonts are ugly on impish only, wayland only. needs investigation likely next week.15:42
oSoMoNseb128, and I submitted https://phabricator.services.mozilla.com/D12323916:05
seb128oSoMoN, thanks for the thunderbird debugging!16:57
seb128oSoMoN, the shell thing I don't know but if it's live session only it can probably wait next week, I would have suggested L_aney maybe otherwise but it's late on a friday now16:59
laneysee you folks17:13
laneyricotz: sorry, I'm off now, you should be able to get someone else to review17:13
jawn-smithIf anyone's still around at this hour on a Friday: desktop installer images are built with live-build, correct?21:14
