=== Eickmeyer_ is now known as Eickmeyer [05:45] Hello, new user here. How can I get Ubuntu studio without all the programs? Is that possible? [05:49] vij1980[m], You haven't mentioned a release, but Ubuntu without the programs is likely best achieved via netboot install - https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/netboot/ (it's no longer produced; so doesn't exist for later releases) [05:50] (Ubuntu Studio is the Ubuntu base system with a desktop & applications put on geared for creators..) [06:39] vij1980: I did a xubuntu minimal install, it's an option to install a minimal desktop environment. Basically a desktop and a file browser. [06:39] Then you can build up your system. [06:40] Make sure you know how to install packages from the command line. [06:42] For all the ustudio goodies use the Ubuntu Studio Installer. It's an app you can install that helps you install the right packages for audio production. And more actually. [06:44] vij1980: I'm not sure if Ubuntu Studio has a minimal install option.. [07:15] Greetings again. Regarding my last post about Studio Controls not launching, I see on, further inspection, that Jack is not available as an option in Audacity. Nor is it visible in the Pulse section of the systray so looks like it not running and I can't see a way of selecting run without studio controls running. Any suggestions gratefully received. Would it be worth enabling the studio controls PPA mentioned on the US support section [07:15] of website to hopefully upgrade it? [07:17] Backports PPA that is? [07:20] Btw. I tried a booting a live USB of 20.04.1 and studio controls worked fine. Jack was running fine and available in Audacity. [10:04] chris_uk: if you have studio controls installed, check if it is called Ubuntu Studio Controls. [10:04] If so, it won't upgrade because the newer package is called studio controls. (without Ubuntu) [10:04] I guess this shouldn't happen, but it happened to me. [13:05] Thanks. It is called 'Studio Controls' in both the menu and in usr/ bin. [15:42] chris_uk: in my case the package was called ubuntustudio-controls and didn't update because of that. [17:01] chris_uk[m]: if you run studio_controls from a terminal is there an error message? [17:05] chris_uk[m]: sorry studio-controls... [17:05] chris_uk[m]: also try convert-studio-controls and look for errors. [17:06] chris_uk[m]: ps x |grep jack should show autojack is running. [17:07] chris_uk[m]: unfortunately I will not be around till sept to really look into this. [17:17] I already posted the terminal output for studio-controls in my earlier message. Here it is again:... (full message at https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/libera.chat/9162b036d6eed51cd56b31efe457c59c4e0b0018) [17:22] And... [17:44] http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/trusty/man1/pastebinit.1.html [17:44] I think that was the handy cli app. [17:47] https://itectec.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-how-to-easily-share-the-output-of-a-command-or-a-text-file-with-others/ [17:48] Nice tutorial. [21:41] Many thanks rgh and ovenwerks. [22:39] Executing studio-controls is failing on my new Linux Mint 20.2. When run in a terminal the program exits with a "No such file or directory: '/home/allan/.config/autojack/autojack.json' " I have a linux mint 20 laptop with Studio installed and it works fine. Any ideas? [23:14] I copied the autojack folder from my laptop to the problem machine. Lo and behold, studio controls now executes on the new machine.
