MichaelChristensHi, I'm planning on getting a new laptop with ubuntu studio and have been considering whether I should choose to use LUKS full disk encryption or whether doing this would significantly slow the cpu and ssd performance during intensive tasks (such as video editing). Does anyone have advice/experience concerning this question?20:08
corrinado[m]We'll, most modern CPUs will handle LUKS without any noticable performance cost. So you're gonna want to find out what CPU / generation, HDD or SSD or NVME for storage. The CPU should include AES-NI Support. Most CPUs do.20:35

MichaelChristensGood---that sounds reassuring. For the CPU, I was specifically considering an `Intel Core i5-10210U` (which---as far as I could tell---includes AES). For the SSD, it would be a `M.2 PCIe NVMe`21:19
corrinado[m]You should have a good time with that CPU. It is pretty new and has full aes-ni support.21:53
MichaelChristensOk good—thanks for the info.23:04
