tryanewhy when i open an installed game, the icons on my panel gets bigger until i close that game?05:17
valoriethat's odd -- I never noticed something that happen, tryane05:19
tryanevalorie: the icons get bigger until i close the game they go back to normal05:19
valorieI'm not a gamer, but..... does this happen with other programs you open?05:19
tryanethis also happens when i open anbox05:19
valoriehmmm05:20
valorieis the game a KDE game?05:20
tryaneno05:20
tryaneRunescape05:20
valorieI guess I don't run *only* kde apps, but it doesn't happen when I use chrom, or telegram05:20
valorieyou could ask in #kde if you are really interested in more in-depth testing05:22
tryanetelegram opens fine for me05:22
tryanedoesn't change the icon size05:22
tryaneok thank you05:22
valorieI'm going to assume that that is intended by the app creators05:22
tryanei don't know why would they make sonmehting like that anyway05:24
tryanebut maybe05:24
TJ-valorie: maybe the game is causing either resolution or dpi settings to be changed?06:27
TJ-oops, that is for tryane ^^^06:27
tryaneTJ-: i don't know if they do honestly07:10
tryaneand good morning sir :)07:10
TJ-tryane: I've seen that happen in other circumstances but usually the application only forces a change of resoluion if it is running full screen07:13
TJ-I can imagine it may happen if you're operating multi-monitors and the application goes full-screen on one of them, causing dpi to change on all monitors (per-monitor different resolutions should be fine)07:17
tryaneTJ-: i use laptop screen only07:19
alkisgHe reported that xrandr show the same resolution remains07:19
tryanealso it's windowed so no full screen mode07:20
alkisgE.g. the terminal doesn't get bigger, only the plasma-panel07:20
tryaneyeah07:20
alkisgtryane: the panel gets bigger, or just the icons inside the panel?07:20
TJ-I've been asleep so many have missed some reports. In which case it sounds 'weird' !!07:20
TJ-could it be a 'scaling' issue ? I do recall in various DEs over the years, the ability to set icon scaling07:21
tryanethe panel and the icons get bigger07:21
alkisgDo the desktop icons also get bigger?07:22
tryanei mean it doesn't affect performance but it's annoying to browse firefox for example while playing07:22
tryanealkisg: i have no desktop icons07:23
alkisgCreate one to see07:23
alkisgWhy, is firefox also getting bigger?07:23
alkisgI wonder if you mis-reported something, e.g. if xrandr shows the same resolution only because you switched away from the game, which then changed the resolution once more...07:24
tryanedisktop icons remain the same size07:25
tryanedesktop*07:25
tryanei don't think so, but wait i will try xrandr once more07:25
alkisgSo only the panel is affected, and nothing else at all? Not the desktop icons, no other open apps, not firefox etc...07:26
tryanexrandr showing the same07:27
tryanethe panel and it's icons, firefox scaling is the same it only flashes for a second when the panel icons gets bigger07:27
alkisgIt might be just kde then, reacting to some "entered game mode" signal...07:29
tryaneok editing the panel has some setting with icons scaling, i set it to small icons rather than scaling with panel height07:30
tryanestarted the game again, the icons are same small size but the panel itself gets bigger07:30
alkisgDoes the game add something to the panel, like a tray icon or something?07:32
alkisgtryane: btw in the screenshot you uploaded, https://postimg.cc/8s3SMKcQ, are the icons small or large? I can't tell...07:33
tryanethe icons are large in the screenshot, they go back to normal after the game is closed07:35
tryaneit adds no try icon07:35
tryaneI've changed setting for tray icons to not scale with heigh the only thing that's getting bigger now is the panel and the "Date"07:36
alkisgCan you upload another screenshot where they  are normal?07:36
tryaneok second07:37
alkisgI wonder if only the tray icons are affected, or all of them07:37
alkisgI.e. the colored ones or just the black/white ones07:37
tryanealkisg: https://postimg.cc/LhPLLs3H07:38
alkisgYeah it's just about the tray icons07:39
alkisgWhile the other ones, firefox etc, appear the same07:39
tryanealkisg: another screenshot with the game open https://postimg.cc/vcQLWV8W07:41
TJ-this is both intriguing and frustrating!07:49
alkisgtryane: I've heard about some recent changes and bug fixes with the tray icons of kde. Maybe they're responding to some "font size or dpi change" that the game is requesting. I'd consider it a kde bug... maybe you could report it in their bug tracker07:51
tryaneok thank you for your time and sorry for pain, alkisg && TJ- <3  ðŸ˜…07:53
tryanewill report it07:53

IrcsomeBot<tim_goe> Hey everyone,21:54
IrcsomeBot<tim_goe> Today I encountered a problem with my Kubuntu 20.04 which I am not able to solve myself.21:54
IrcsomeBot<tim_goe> I would appreciate any help given!21:54
IrcsomeBot<tim_goe> What happened:21:54
IrcsomeBot<tim_goe> I had Firefox opened, playing some music. Not updates where running in the background and the hours before everything was working perfectly fine. From one moment to the other the everything froze. No music, mousepad wasn't working, keyboard wasn't working, I couldn't even adjust the screen brightness. So I powered the ThinkPad off by holding down the power button.21:54
IrcsomeBot<tim_goe> I rebooted put in my password to decrypt my hard drive, Kubuntu boots up but after two seconds or so everything freezes again. I am not even able to put in my Kubuntu password because everything is freezing up again so fast. All that is working is the power button to turn off the ThinkPad.21:54
IrcsomeBot<tim_goe> What other information do you need?21:55
IrcsomeBot<tim_goe> Thanks a lot in advance.21:55

krytarik@tim_goe: Could you please stop reposting?22:06
IrcsomeBot<tim_goe> I am sorry. I didn't repost but adjusted the original post and added some information. I didn't know that this would have the same effect as a reposts. Won't do it again.22:10

gnoobIrcsomeBot: I am not really going to be much help but whhen this happens can you press "Ctrl + Alt + F3" to get to a new terminal and then do a #sudo gmesg to see what the error might be?22:35
gnoobI have an issue where my machine will freeze up and mouse still moves  and if sound is playing it will continue but the screen will usually go black and I have to reboot.  I play to try this next time the CTRL  + ALT + F3.   If not I just set up SSH on the PC so I can SSH in and maybe check that way.22:37
gnoobwhy is that name showing up as "<IrcsomeBot> <tim_goe>" on my client?22:42
IrcsomeBot<tim_goe> When I press CTRL+ALT+F3 the screen turns black for a short while and then I see something like this:22:44
IrcsomeBot<tim_goe> [   128.400445] Call trace:22:44
IrcsomeBot<tim_goe> ...22:44
IrcsomeBot<tim_goe> running down the screen with increasing number size and text that does not tell me anything.22:44
IrcsomeBot<tim_goe> Thanks for trying to help.22:44
IrcsomeBot<tim_goe> I am writing within the Telegram Group. Might that be the reason?22:44
gnoobah, OK, i see about the name.22:45
imLEGRHello. My computer won't boot after installing kubuntu22:47
imLEGRHello. My computer won't boot after installing kubuntu22:47
gnoobimLEGR: you are going to need to give these people more details than that.  What do you see, hear, anything.  What happens when you press power.22:48
gnoobtim_goe : Yeah, I wish I could help more but I am just a noob.22:49
gnooband I am having a similar issue that I hope to resolve :)22:49
imLEGRI installed kubuntu. Used the automatic mode. After the reboot it told me to remove the flash drive. I pulled it out and pressed Enter. The computer rebooted and instead of the system I see the MAG logo of my motherboard22:51
gnoobhmm, the boot loader maybe did not install correctly?  Are you trying to dual boot?22:51
imLEGRNo, only kubuntu22:53
imLEGRDo I need another partition for uefi?22:54
gnoobDid you tell it to use the entire disk?22:55
gnoobif so I think it would create everything is needs.  But I am not 100% confident in that.22:55
gnoobhttps://www.ubuntupit.com/how-to-repair-the-grub-bootloader-using-a-ubuntu-live-usb-drive/   maybe something like this could help?  I don't think it could hurt.22:57
gnoobbut maybe somoene with more knowledge can offer something else.22:57
