[00:57] Hello? Not sure where I am at but am having a heck of a time installing Lubuntu on a Toshiba Laptop...I have searched everywhere I can think of to get help. [00:58] I am willing to document all I've tried to help others. [00:59] Nick78: you have landed in the support channel so you are in the right place. [00:59] Let us know what you have tried and the errors you are getting. [00:59] Also, let us know which version. [01:02] I can download and install ok...the first time...versions 18.04, 20.04.2 and 20.04.3, and 21.04. Errors I get once installed is that it won't reboot, shutdown or cold boot properly. Is constantly going into a sleep [01:02] or suspend mode. [01:03] From the Recovery menu, if I go into System Summary is says my Physical Volume is Bad. [01:04] Volume Groups are OK. [01:04] Ah, ok. It might be good to boot from a live iso and run a fsck on the disk just to make sure things are ok. [01:04] fsck will not run from the Recovery menu. I think it ran clean when I tried it from the USB drive. [01:05] heh you beat me to it. [01:05] thx Dan :) [01:06] I've seen 2 different logon screens at times...the usual blue 20.04 screen, but another red and black logon screen at times. [01:07] That is the text based Plymouth screen. Strange that it changes between the two. [01:08] The blue always showed up first. When coming out of sleep or suspend mode, occasionally it would go to this red/black screen. [01:08] As far as suspend, have you tried disabling the power management and screensaver? [01:08] Only thru configuration manager. [01:09] Sorry...Power Management Settings...yes [01:10] ok, how about screensaver? [01:10] This is a dual-boot machine with Windows Vista on the main partition. [01:11] gotcha [01:11] (btw, I hear MS is coming out with Windows 11, making you guys even more important!) [01:12] Keeping all the machines alive with Linux. ;) [01:13] The other thing that comes to mind is temperature. Sometimes that can cause things to go south especially under load. [01:14] It does seem to run a bit hot...and may 'act' better after sitting overnight. I will see what happens tomorrow morning. [01:15] At one time I had a widget or something telling me it was up to 120 degrees.. [01:15] that is hot enough to cause a shutdown. [01:16] Will Lubuntu not shut down automatically when too hot? [01:16] I'll let it cool off. [01:17] The system itself will invoke the power off if too high. [01:18] ok, good to know, thx Dan. I will let it cool off to see what happens and check back if I still have problems. thanks [01:19] Sounds good, take care. [08:19] I have trouble with a HP printer, printing works fine, but scanning with date from printer to pc haults a bit [08:19] The printer asks me to download drivers directly from HP [08:20] the hp site advice to use drivers from a different place [08:20] I guess lubuntu or ubuntu is the right place? [08:22] I have looked under menu-preferances-printer [11:44] Good morning. I am new to this chat and Lubuntu. I have successfully installed and used it on my desktop but am having a heck of a time installing it on my Toshiba Laptop. [11:45] I've tried several versions...latest now is 20.04.3. My questions are: [11:45] 1. After a clean install I see my Physical Volume is still not OK (BAD) from the System-Summary report during a recovery session. [11:46] 2. After a clean install, I go into Discover and it immediately reports the metadata checksum is incorrect. [11:46] Are these 2 things normal after a fresh install? [11:47] My problem right now is I have to press the power button several times before getting a desktop to come up. [11:47] I have changed in Power Management to either do nothing or perform a shutdown if battery is low or when I close the lid. [11:48] CLosing the lid does nothing. [11:49] I even get 2 different logon screens during bootup.,.the typical Lubuntu 20.04 purple/blue screen...then later on after waking it up, I get a Red/Black Flame login screen. [11:50] I now wonder if there is a Power Managment fix... [13:21] [telegram] So your physical volume is bad? (re @lubuntu_bot: (irc) 1. After a clean install I see my Physical Volume is still not OK (BAD) from the System-Summary report during a recovery session.) [13:22] [telegram] Then you should check SSD/HDD [13:24] @Halis, Nick78 left before I could respond (wasn't quick to leave; but we can't always respond in time) [13:25] [telegram] Can he join later again the İRC and see the older messages? [13:26] [telegram] İ am not familiar with İRC [13:26] only if the user thinks to look up IRClogs. Most clients can only record messages when running (ie. when they're online) === genii-core is now known as genii === genii is now known as genii-away [23:49] Hi. I am new to L/Ubuntu and am wondering what is the best way to document a problem in hopes that someone may look at it someday? I see there are lots of Linux and ubuntu websites. My problem may be simple: [23:52] Several installations of Lubuntu (18.04, 20.04.2, 20.04.3, 21.04) on to my Toshiba Laptop, (dual booting with WIndows Vista), I have to continually Press the Power button to get to the LQXt desktop.
