jibelI'm good thanks07:20
dufluMorning seb128. Getting sicker, but surviving...07:22
seb128duflu, sorry to read :-(07:22
oSoMoNtake it easy duflu, I hope you get better soon07:22
seb128you should call it a day early and get some rest07:23
dufluI'm mostly functional07:23
seb128oSoMoN, kenvandine, any idea why we still have core18 on the current impish daily?07:23
seb128https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/yZnqFVtjhV/07:24
seb128that's the manifest diff between before the firefox landing and after, snap:gnome-3-34-180 was removed but I would have expected core18 to also go?07:24
oSoMoNafaik there's nothing requiring core18 any longer, snap-store and firefox are both core20 based07:26
oSoMoNand gtk-common-themes is based on bare07:27
seb128indeed :/07:33
seb128mwhudson, ^ any idea?07:33
seb128mwhudson, unping07:36
seb128$ snap info --verbose gtk-common-themes_1515.snap | grep base07:37
seb128base:     core1807:37
seb128$ snap info --verbose gtk-common-themes  | grep base07:37
seb128base:         bare07:37
seb128the snap was downloaded with07:37
seb128$ UBUNTU_STORE_ARCH=amd64 SNAPPY_STORE_NO_CDN=1 snap download --cohort= --channel=stable/ubuntu-21.10 gtk-common-themes07:37
seb128hum07:37
seb128snapd bug?07:37
seb128jamesh, ^ any idea there of what's going on?07:37
jameshseb128: we changed the base to bare07:38
seb128jamesh, ah, I was on the candidate channel and snap info gives you the info of the channel you are using07:39
seb128k, that's why07:39
jameshseb128: the rationale is outlined in this thread: https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/call-for-testing-gtk-common-themes/2624207:39
seb128jamesh, any eta on landing the bare based one to stable?07:39
seb128or in stable/ubuntu-21.1007:40
seb128that's currently pulling core18 on the impish iso07:40
seb128which we probably don't want since we moved snap-store and firefox to core2007:40
seb128kenvandine, ^07:40
jameshseb128: in short, we wanted to avoid cases where gtk-common-themes was the only snap bringing in core18, while not forcing the download of core20 on systems only using core18 snaps07:40
jameshI'll look at pushing it to stable07:41
seb128jamesh, right, sorry my question was not clear, I understand what is happening with the base07:41
seb128jamesh, I just want core18 out of the impish ISO, which means promoting the candidate theme to stable07:41
seb128thanks07:41
oSoMoNor to stable/ubuntu-21.1007:41
seb128right, or that07:42
seb128lower impact for now if we don't want to do the jump for stable07:42
jameshit's on stable now. Do I need to do anything extra for the branch?07:45
jameshor will that just take what's currently stable?07:46
seb128jamesh, thanks! it takes what is in stable since the channel is closed07:51
seb128confirmed it works07:51
seb128$ UBUNTU_STORE_ARCH=amd64 SNAPPY_STORE_NO_CDN=1 snap download --cohort= --channel=stable/ubuntu-21.10 gtk-common-themes07:51
seb128...07:51
seb128   snap install gtk-common-themes_1519.snap07:51
seb128$ snap info --verbose gtk-common-themes_1519.snap | grep base07:51
seb128base:     bare07:51
jameshI guess we'll need to find room for bare.snap on the ISO now07:52
seb128:)07:52
seb128oh07:52
seb128jamesh, so we need bare seeded?07:52
jameshyes07:52
seb128ok, livecd-rootfs should do the right thing07:53
seb128it basically does07:54
seb128            snap_info=$(snap info --verbose ${snaps_dir}/${SNAP_NAME}_[0-9]*.snap)07:54
jameshI think it'd try to download "bare" otherwise, which would fail if the network isn't up at that point07:54
seb128            local core_snap=$(echo "$snap_info" | grep '^base:' | awk '{print $2}')07:54
seb128            _snap_preseed $CHROOT_ROOT $core_snap stable07:54
jameshIt'll never be used since no code runs in the context of the gtk-common-themes snap, but snapd will want it to be there07:55
RikMillsis it intended to have both the Firefox snap and deb on the ISO for the beta?07:57
RikMillsoh, the stuff to integrate has no landed yet. I saw the merge requests and assumed they had08:00
RikMillsignore me ;)08:00
* RikMills needs more coffee08:01
RikMillsoh, and good morning :)08:01
seb128RikMills, hey, and read #ubuntu-release backlog08:02
oSoMoNgood morning RikMills 08:05
RikMillsseb128: thanks, I missed that in -release08:11
seb128Trevinho, hey, did you figure anything out with the issue from o_SoMoN yesterday?08:32
seb128oSoMoN, did you want to me upload the ubuntu-settings change for the default launcher config update?08:33
oSoMoNseb128, as you wish, I can do it if you're busy08:39
Trevinhoseb128: hey, well not much... Olivier pointed a VirtualBox bug, and looks a possibility, as Xorg starts. 09:07
TrevinhooSoMoN: if you want we can try something else to see if we can isolate the error better 09:08
oSoMoNTrevinho, sure, I'll be juggling with other tasks, but if you have suggestions to debug further I'm eager to test them09:09
seb128oSoMoN, I will do it, just wanted to ask before to make sure we don't dup work09:21
oSoMoNack09:22
TrevinhooSoMoN: I'd suggest to go to a tty I'm the vm (use chvt if you're in ssh) then there launch screen or byobu so you can handle stuff better from ssh.... Connect there and try to launch `XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=/tmp/foobar dbus-run-session mutter --display-server --wayland` and see if something appears... I if it does and it's responsive, replace mutter with gnome-shell and check again 09:28
=== cpaelzer_ is now known as cpaelzer
seb128Trevinho, I just saw you ported xdg portals to fuse3, or did you end up there? ;-)10:33
Trevinhoseb128: oh, I saw mail in Ubuntu devel, so I decided to spend some night time to see how complicated it was... And was not :-)11:52
seb128Trevinho, you are awesome ;-)11:52
Trevinhoseb128: ahah, too good12:32
TrevinhoI see if tonight I've also some time for open-vm-tools, doesn't seem that hard.12:33
Trevinhoiirc is the only other one blocker which has not a port available, for the rest there should be already something so that we can prepare the transition early next cycle12:34
oSoMoNwell done Trevinho!12:55
Trevinho:)12:55
hellsworthgood morning desktopers!14:47
oSoMoNhey hellsworth 14:47
hellsworthhi there oSoMoN 14:48
laneyoSoMoN: heya, just saw the snap stuff for firefox - nice one. just fyi, you probably want to add it to: https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-upgrader/tree/DistUpgrade/deb2snap.json so that update-manager and the release upgrader do the right thing14:50
laneyand hi everyone!14:50
hellsworthhi laney !!!!14:50
* laney high fives hellsworth 14:50
laneywhat up?14:50
hellsworthall kinds of buoyant things14:51
hellsworth:)14:51
seb128hey laney, how is the new life?14:51
seb128we are missing you around!14:51
laneyheeeeeeeeeey seb128 14:52
seb128and not only because we don't have any european around to handle beta requests :p14:52
laneyI'm all about the kubernetes now14:52
laneyheh14:52
laneykill all freezes, kill all releases, that's what I say14:52
seb128hellsworth, hey! is that wanted that the indaba is on saturday? https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu-desktop-team-indaba-ama-september-25-2021-5pm-utc14:52
laneyUbuntu Continuous Delivery14:52
hellsworthseb128: nope good catch14:52
hellsworththanks seb128 i've updated the discourse post :)14:58
seb128👍14:59
seb128jbicha, Trevinho, any idea about the gtk4 build failure on ppc? it has been retried enough to be proved to not be flacky so we need to either remove the new version from impish or have someone working on fixing it15:10
oSoMoNhey laney! yep, that's here: https://code.launchpad.net/~osomon/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+git/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+merge/40883816:15
laneyoSoMoN: ah! nice one16:21
laneyrunning the snap now btw :-)16:22
oSoMoNcool, please share your feedback, I'm particularly interested in functional regressions compared to the deb16:22
laneycopied the profile in manually, not sure if I missed some magic there16:26
oSoMoNlaney, if you install the snap from the stable/ubuntu-21.10 channel, you'll get the profile importer that does the necessary magic to import your existing profiles in ~/.mozilla/firefox/ (assuming the snap hasn't been run before)16:41
oSoMoNand this will soon hit the stable channel16:41
laneyah, I installed beta, I wanted 93 to potentially fix https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=172236916:41
ubottuMozilla bug 1722369 in Core "Wayland clipboard is broken after tab detach" [--, Unconfirmed]16:41
oSoMoNah, beta doesn't have that yet, but it should of course, I'll fix that16:43
laney👍16:43
oSoMoNpushed to the beta packaging branch, it will be picked up at the next beta rebuild16:43
oSoMoNthat won't make a difference for you unless you delete the contents of ~/snap/firefox/common after refreshing16:44
oSoMoNbecause the profile importer is a one-off thing16:44
laneyack16:47
laneymight try it for testing16:47
GunnarHjseb128, jbicha, Trevinho: As regards failed ppc64el tests: For gnome-shell I brutally disabled the tests for ppc64el. Apparently not an ideal 'solution', but it allowed it to build and migrate for now. A possibility for gtk4 too?18:39
GunnarHjhttps://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/gnome-shell/-/commit/17adb37118:39
ubottuCommit 17adb37 in gnome-team/gnome-shell "Skip ppc64el tests to fix FTBFS"18:39
seb128GunnarHj, hum, while I think there are probably almost no user of the shell on ppc that might not be as true from gtk, how confident are you that it's a test issue and not a real problem?18:40
GunnarHjseb128: I'm not confident at all, which is why I mentioned it. (Should have done so previously, but forgot.)18:41
