[00:49] Hate asking this but how do I burn a CD-R from a .iso image? [00:50] grab some prog like brasero or some jazz, should be something built-in with whatever base OS you went with [00:51] daftykins: I have Ubuntu. [00:51] just the context menu should offer something even? i.e. right click on the file [00:51] (on the machine I'll be using to burn the disc). [00:51] Hmm... I wonder whether it can erase a CD-R/W. [00:52] Oh hey, I have Brasero installed!!!!!!!!!!!!! [00:53] Sorry, this keyboard stutters. [00:53] i thought you were just that happy! [00:54] I'm happy but I'd be even happier if I had that Ducky One 2 Skyline that's on my wish-list. [00:54] I honestly can't remember the last time I had to burn a CD. [00:56] i've done a few :D [00:56] i was preparing some drivers for a win98 Pentium III at one point [00:59] Pretty sad that the OS I'm installing won't even boot on any of my computers. [00:59] Still, this might do, temporarily. [00:59] which? [01:00] NetBSD/amd64. They "modernised" the USB install image I think. [01:03] The .iso is 466 MB so it still fits on a CD (though not the 8cm CD I used to install from) [01:11] teeny-tiny [01:17] Well, it's installing... [01:17] I like Brasero, too. [01:18] \o/ [01:19] time for bed i think, ttfn \o [01:48] Sleep well! [10:30] mornin' gang [10:30] ooh a shiny new laptop has arrived on my doorstep, awaiting prep and shipping off to a client employee [11:03] shiny new or shiny new to you? :-P [11:03] well, i buy from the Dell Outlet for my pal's biz, so 'new' [11:03] :D [11:04] 11th gen intel though, pretty up to date [11:04] but if you saw an osborne-1 you'd grab it, right? :-P [11:06] * daftykins looks around his junk-filled home office [11:06] err... [11:06] it's already quite dangerous, my folks have uncovered my last remaining CRT at their house [11:08] it's for sentimental reasons! the cats need it to sleep on :-P [11:09] might be kinda fun to see one again... but i don't fancy storing one [11:13] i've seen people lamenting recently in other channels about throwing out a skip of vt100 terminals to the point they're cruising ebay to get 1 [11:13] heh [11:13] they are not cheap [11:15] hrmm they're useless without a connection to a backend service though, no? [11:16] i suppose that's yet another job for a Pi [11:18] suggeste getting a vt100 board abd build a clone and fill it with storage and use the pi pdp as monitor top toy/server :-P https://www.clivemaxfield.com/mega-cool-vt100-emulator-on-a-chip/ [16:16] facebook and whatsapp are down [16:17] they'll be flooding into irc soon :-P [16:17] already seen questions popping up elsewhere [16:18] https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28748203 [17:16] ^^ and nothing of value was lost [17:17] agreed [17:17] the people rejoiced! [19:56] https://twitter.com/secparam/status/1445073438918463493 [20:00] :) [20:01] Sorry, my bad. I shouldn't have uninstalled Instagram from my phone this morning. [20:02] srsly.. I deleted it from my phone only minutes before it went down lol [20:02] story goes that they can't access the servers/routers to fix the BGP because they're behind locked doors that can't access the corporate LDAP because their BGP is dead [20:03] If it's not DNS, it's BGP. [20:03] in this instance, it's BGP causing DNS to die ;-p [20:03] But it's incredible that it happened just as a data leak was published [20:10] https://twitter.com/0xabad1dea/status/1445119021565755393 [20:12] Apparently Gmail is now having problems [20:13] everyone is resorting to email instead of facebook? [20:13] Good news, https://myspace.com/ is still up. [20:13] is that good news? [20:13] phew, well so long as i can tell Tom about my day [20:36] https://twitter.com/bcrypt/status/1445125492957347845 [20:36] twitter is comedy gold [20:37] * daftykins routes around the jokes [20:40] RIP [21:26] Buhahaha! Reports of FB staff unable to get into FB campus because their smart cards aren't working because of the outage. [21:26] yeah that's already been in a link above essentially [21:27] though pastes of the one-liners is more efficient than twitter links ;) *cough* [21:28] And FB stock has lost $7B today [21:28] \o/ [21:28] gmail is having problems as people are all sending password resets for myspace :-P [21:29] fb stock is down over the whistleblower leaks rather than the outage... probably [23:29] lol, apparently my Surface Pro doesn't meet the requirements for Windows 11 [23:30] haha.. my CPU is not supported.. i7-7300U [23:37] RIP [23:38] yep my 2015 build skylake i7-6700 is ruled out also, allegedly [23:38] feel like manual installs will be fine though (not that i'm in a hurry) [23:39] psssst, wanna buy a copy of os/2? :-P [23:48] I can do a manual install on a Surface Pro, but it doesn't install all the Surface drivers/apps. [23:49] i'm not convinced you'd be lacking much [23:50] I did a clean install of 10 before, there were small things that didn't work properly which were kinda annoying [23:50] but 10 grabs all drivers via Windows Update, you just have to pop it online and let it slurp all the things [23:50] Otherwise I just put Ubuntu on it. There's a kernel patch up on github to make the touch screen work and everything. [23:51] Drivers, yes. But things like the pen doesn't work correctly. [23:51] You lose half the sensitivity of the pen pressure [23:51] o0 [23:52] that doesn't make an awful lot of sense, but eh, gimmicky tat anyway - not fond of MS devices at all [23:52] Probably time for a new laptop [23:52] Maybe one of them Framework laptops [23:55] whoa you're gonna have to stop shaving your neck if you keep going on like this :D
