linociscoHello all . Everytime, I login to ubuntu mate, I got "report problem and Cancel" box. Upon checking out google and forums. it is mentioned to check apport.log under /var/log04:20
linociscohere is the output of apport.log . https://pastebin.com/0Zw3MFsV04:21
linociscoI have tried apt-get autoremove to remove some junks or uninstalled programs04:23
linociscoproblem still remains04:23
alkisglinocisco: try sudo rm /var/crash/*, then reboot05:21
alkisgSometimes mate-panel etc crash, then you see the dialog until you either delete the crash dump, or you select "ignore crashes from this app"05:21
linociscoalkisg, thanks. mate. I will give a try05:22
linociscoalkisg, it worked really ! it fixed. thanks alot05:37
alkisglinocisco: remember the command, you may need it again in a few weeks! Cheers!05:38
linociscoalkisg, why it will crash again and again?05:38
alkisgYeah some mate apps crash from time to time unfortunately05:39
alkisgAlthough e.g. kde apps crash a lot more! :D05:39
alkisg(I don't know about gnome I can't use that)05:39
linociscoalkisg, it means ubuntu mate is not reliable or stable like original ubuntu ?05:41
linociscoalkisg, thanks. I will remember that command for later use05:41
alkisgNo. I'm using ubuntu-mate for my main desktop05:42
alkisgI mean that "all software has bugs in general" :)05:42

enyccurious how much ubuntu-MATE is used over mint-MATE these days...  is MATE a declining DE anyhow...?07:41
alkisgI've no idea, but I guess anyone familiar with debian policy (developers etc) avoid mint because it severely breaks it, so they'd use vanilla ubuntu or debian over mint09:43
alkisgGNOME still has more resources than many people have, so other DEs will be valuable for a long time09:44
alkisgMATE used to be very light, unfortunately it's becoming a bit more bloated with Canonical enforcing snap. We'll see how it goes, maybe a switch to Debian with MATE or KDE will be needed...09:44
alkisg*GNOME still needs, not has09:45
guivercalkisg, MATE became 'heavy' (slowish) by 16.04 in my opinion (as a mate user using pentium M laptops); GTK3 & not the snaps in my experience being the issue for me at least (using less-ancient cpus the drop in speed far less severe)11:35
sixwheeledbeastIt is struggling on older hardware since 18.04 even with snap removed12:07
sixwheeledbeastjust because something in the mate-panel crashes that doesn't make the whole system unstable.12:15
superkuhYes. GTK3 became GNOME-ified and bad after 2013.13:49
superkuhmclasen started intentionally removing features like the ability to paste file paths into file->open dialogs.13:50
konstantin_unruh<superkuh> "mclasen started intentionally..." <- this is still possible, isn't it?15:25
superkuhOnly after doing a keyboard shortcut.15:26
superkuhIt will error if you just try to paste or send the path in an automated way as sometimes happens.15:26
superkuhAnd the gsettings available for LOCATION_MODE_FILENAME_ENTRY vs LOCATION_MODE_PATH_BAR for gtkfilechooserwidget.c are no longer respected.15:28
