[03:15] Gog and Magog === patstoms_ is now known as patstoms [13:10] hullo - I've got a question about Ubuntu Server install. I've got a machine with 3 partitions - Windows, Ubuntu Desktop and what I think is the Windows essential partition. I'd like to install over the top of the old Ubuntu partition and leave the rest in place. Can't figure out how to do this in the custom installer - anyone able to point to a guide or general overview of the workflow? Cheers! [13:13] atjb: I'm not sure dual boot has ever been considered a supported use case on Ubuntu Server, sorry. [13:15] Ah - fair enough [13:15] You could probably arrange it by hand though [13:16] There's no fundamental reason it can't work - it's just not something that we have an automatic answer for [13:16] Fair enough [13:17] What kind of steps should I take? [13:17] Manual partitioning [13:18] What will ubuntu server install onto? [13:18] https://ubuntu.com/server/docs/install/storage might help [13:18] A blank partition? [13:18] Thanks - I'll have a read [13:18] That doc suggests to me that the installer can install by overwriting an existing partition [13:18] I'm not sure what it will do about arranging boot vs. dual boot though. [13:18] You might then need to fix up the boot by hand afterwards [13:20] Thanks - I'll have a look this evening [13:21] I couldn't figure installing by overwriting an existing partition though, but I'd be happy to blank one [13:21] fDisk from the installer? [13:24] The bottom of that page suggests dropping to a shell from inside the installer, yes [13:25] I'll think again whether it's something I want to do [13:25] The machine isn't that strong - I think windows on the hardware is better === genii-core is now known as genii === not_phunyguy is now known as phunyguy === genii is now known as genii-core
