jbicharbasak: I haven't seen that. If you use gnome-shell extensions, see if you still have that issue with them disabled01:20

GunnarHjHi all!08:01
GunnarHjSome desktop team input at bug #1946969 would be greatly appreciated.08:01
GunnarHjBackground in short:08:01
GunnarHj* There is this "Xwayland on demand" idea in latest mutter (e.g. https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/1673)08:01
GunnarHj* It means that you may start your wayland session without Xwayland and ibus-x11 processes running08:01
ubottuBug 1946969 in im-config (Ubuntu) "ibus-x11 does not start automatically" [High, In Progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/194696908:01
GunnarHj* This has proved to be an issue for ibus-mozc users, since ibus-mozc needs ibus-x11 to work.08:01
ubottuMerge 1673 in GNOME/mutter "Xwayland on demand by default" [Merged]08:01
GunnarHjQuestion: Would it be justifiable to make sure that Xwayland and ibus-x11 are started for everyone at login into a wayland session in impish, e.g. by running the xrefresh command in an autostart script?08:01
GunnarHjNot so many "home" today, but Trevinho, duflu, oSoMoN, callmepk ^08:02
dufluGunnarHj, I don't think any of us have an opinion on that. If you need to undo it then I don't mind08:03
dufluMight be best to take it up with upstream first though08:04
GunnarHjduflu: It seems to contradict upstream's idea, which is why I'm hesitating. Not sure what kind of answer I would get if asking upstream... ;)08:08
dufluGunnarHj, I have no opinion myself. We are free to patch stuff but it's a good idea to only patch stuff that upstream HAS rejected already08:12
didrocksduflu: thibautr has some issues like login screen displaying the whale screen (which is not a whale anymore btw). Could be https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/131b21d4843931d315a4548121d7d352cfd1e3a8 or https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/233cec69ba3579112ae60349cec6fed0d7d4d9f8 which are the top recent crashers for gdm3/gnome-shell. wdyt?08:17
didrocks(I doubt he will be able to go a tty and report the crash from there, so hoping that whoopsie reported it)08:17
dufludidrocks, look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine08:19
GunnarHjduflu: Yeah, normally. But in this case they have invested quite some code to make something behave in a way which at least ibus-mozc users don't like. I see it as a "Forwarded: not needed" thing.08:20
didrocksduflu: right, but the id is install specific, correct?08:20
dufludidrocks, yes it is machine-specific. Please also ask for this run from a tty:  apport-cli -f gnome-shell08:21
didrocksso I doubt he will be able to read this (we should have an easy way from the live for average user)08:21
didrocksduflu: yeah, this is where we can’t ask that to a regular user (or I would have already done it)08:21
dufludidrocks, try giving him instructions for booting with the 'nomodeset' kernel parameter. Then we should at least get a login and be able to report bugs08:23
didrocksyeah, let’s try this08:23
GunnarHjdidrocks: Do you possibly have an opinion on the Xwayland question I asked above?08:23
didrocksGunnarHj: unfortunately not. It’s been a long time I haven’t followed GNOME/Wayland and all the changes related to it08:26
GunnarHjack.08:26
rbasakjbicha: just "Desktop Icons NG (DNG)", "Ubuntu AppIndicators" and "Ubuntu Dock". These are all default on Ubuntu I assume? I've used others in the past but they're all disabled.09:24
